Undercover cops lead to 30 arrests of illegal border crossers
The unexpected measure proved effective when 37 individuals were arrested in 30 cases since the recent Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said disguising as villagers allowed police to move unnoticed among suspects who entered through the rat trails.
'If we were in uniform, the illegal immigrants would run away on seeing us. So we change our approach by putting on mufti. The aim is to arrest immediately, not just prevent.
'The 136-kilometre (km) border is too wide to be monitored with the existing strength of personnel, especially when the area controlled by the PGA is only around 50 km,' he said.
He said this at a press conference after the Kelantan PDRM Monthly Assembly for June at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here, today.
Mohd Yusoff also stressed that there was no issue of corruption in the operation and his members were now instructed to go undercover and arrest immediately, especially in 'hotspot' areas that have been identified as locations where people often enter and leave without permission.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff also denied the viral claim about packet cooking oil from Malaysia which was allegedly sold openly in the south Thailand.
He said investigations found the allegations were untrue and that they were old news that had been re-circulated.

Kelantan records 15 school bullying cases, 22 students detained
KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have recorded 15 cases of bullying in schools since January last year, leading to the arrest of 22 students. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the cases were logged between January last year and July this year in six districts: Kota Baru, Gua Musang, Tumpat, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Tanah Merah. He said all of the cases occurred in schools, and not in colleges or religious schools. Of the total cases, Kota Baru recorded the highest number with seven, followed by Pasir Puteh with three and Tanah Merah with two. Mohd Yusoff said most of the 22 students arrested were male. Four of the cases have been brought to court, while the others are still under investigation. He said all cases are being investigated under several sections of the Penal Code: Section 147 for rioting, Section 148 for possessing weapons during a riot, Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Mohd Yusoff said the situation in Kelantan remained under control, and police continued to monitor developments through school liaison officers. "Police, through our school liaison officers, not only monitor bullying cases in schools but also other criminal offences," he said.

Remand extended against doctor's wife, sons in drug case probe
KOTA BARU: Police today obtained another six-day remand order against the wife of a doctor and her two sons to facilitate their investigation into the seizure of 35kg of cannabis valued at nearly RM300,000. The remand order, which begins tomorrow, was obtained at the magistrate's court under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the first seven-day remand order began a day after the three were detained on Aug 5. It was reported on Aug 10 that police arrested three family members of a doctor and seized 35kg of cannabis in a raid in Ketereh on Aug 5. Yusoff said the three suspects comprised a mother, son and her stepson. Police also seized a Glock pistol and four vehicles.

'Morning everyone', doctor's son involved in drugs, gun case says as he arrives in court for remand extension
KOTA BARU: One of the male suspects, the son of a doctor involved in the 35kg compressed cannabis and pistol seizure here, greeted the media with a brief "morning everyone" as he was brought to a Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (Aug 12) for a remand extension, Sinar Harian reports. The 23-year-old suspect addressed media personnel as he walked towards the court lockup under tight police escort, the Malay language daily reported. He, along with his 34-year-old brother and their 46-year-old mother, arrived in orange lockup attire at the court premises at 8:45am in a Black Maria. They were arrested during a police raid at a bungalow on Aug 5 and are family members of a well-known doctor in his 60s from Ketereh. The raid, conducted at approximately 4:30am by a team of officers and personnel from the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), uncovered cannabis believed to have been smuggled from Thailand and stored in boxes and bags at the bungalow. In addition to the cannabis and a Glock pistol, 16 bullets and four luxury vehicles, including a BMW and a Mercedes Benz, were seized, with the total estimated value of the seizure being RM420,000. Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat previously confirmed that the two male suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine, while the female suspect tested negative. The doctor, who owns a renowned clinic in Ketereh, has had his statement recorded and claims to be unaware of the criminal activities occurring at his residence. All suspects were initially remanded for seven days starting last Tuesday (Aug 4). The process for the remand extension is currently underway.
