Cousin of crime boss Steven ‘Bonzo' Daniel slashed in neck amid Scots gangland turf war

The Sun26-04-2025

THE cousin of Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel has been slashed in the neck amid the ongoing gangland turf war, it's been claimed.
Jamie 'Grinch' Daniel is said to have been attacked with a knife in a targeted street attack near his flat.

The ambush in Milton, Glasgow, comes days after enemies torched the homes of crime family boss Bonzo's mum Annette, 63, and his 72-year-old uncle Norman in nearby Bishopbriggs.
A source told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: 'The guys that targeted him shouted, 'This is for your family'.
'They were out to get him big time and caught him on the neck.
'There's word cops wanted him moved as soon as they knew what happened and what his name was. The place is a powderkeg and it's all just waiting to go off.'
Cops have charged 20 people after a wave of shootings and firebombings in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, including a boy of 16 accused of five attempted murders.
It is understood the assault on Grinch - said to have happened late last week - was not reported to cops.
It is the second time in eight years he has been ambushed with a blade.
He suffered serious injuries in June 2017 when two masked knifemen set upon him at his flat.
The Daniels and associates of jailed Edinburgh cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson, 37, are said to be under attack by a new crew led by a Dubai-based ex-Rangers ultra known as 'Miami'.
Police said they had no record of the latest incident involving Grinch.
Meanwhile, gangsters are seducing kids to take part in their escalating turf war with promises of cash and a glamorous lifestyle, a top cop has warned.
Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry said early intervention is needed to stop rival mobs using youths as pawns.
The head of Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division urged families to be vigilant after 20 people were charged in connection with gangland violence — including a boy of 16 facing five attempted murder raps.
And he confirmed the operation to end the thuggery is the biggest in the country as the force steps up its raids on suspects.

Love Island USA star Yulissa Escobar looks bleary-eyed in mug shot for DUI arrest after she ‘took shot' at tequila bar

LOVE Island USA star Yulissa Escobar appeared bleary-eyed in a mug shot for a 2024 DUI arrest and admitted to drinking at a tequila bar before getting behind the wheel. Yulissa, 27, appeared on the show's current season for the premiere episode and was kicked off after a video of her making racist remarks resurfaced on social media. 6 6 6 In the incident report exclusively obtained by The U.S. Sun, Yulissa was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Miami. In the July 24, 2024 report, an officer spotted a black Acura that was 'all over the roadway' and 'unable to maintain a lane.' The car 'nearly at times collided with the median concrete wall.' The incident report read, 'The defendant was observed to have bloodshot, watery eyes, and I could smell an odor of an unknown alcohol beverage emitting from inside the vehicle.' She told the officer she was coming from her job at Pilo's Tequila Garden. Yulissa told the officer that she had nothing to drink and claimed to have been 'driving normally.' The officer had her step out of the vehicle and asked if she would be willing to perform standardized field sobriety tests to determine if she was okay to continue to drive. 'She ultimately agreed to perform the tests,' the report read. 'As the Defendant spoke to me, I could smell an unknown odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her face and mouth area. 'When asked again if she had consumed any alcoholic beverage, the defendant stated that she had a shot with one of her clients at work.' The officer noted she was unable to keep balance while listening to instructions, started before instructions were finished and used her arms for balance. During the one-leg stand she swayed while balancing, used her arms to balance and put her foot down. The report continued to allege, 'The defendant was advised that she was being arrested for driving under the influence. At approximately 3:57am she was placed in handcuffs with a double lock.' She refused to give a sample of her breath to determine the blood alcohol content. 'The defendant was allowed to call her family members to pick up her car,' the report read. 'While speaking on the phone with her family, she made multiple spontaneous statements about her drinking and driving.' She was booked and charged with DUI. She paid a $1,000 bond. In her mug shot, she appeared solemn and bleary-eyed. 6 IN COURT Yulissa pleaded not guilty to the charge against her in court, calling the arrest "unlawful." A jury trial was set in the case. But then on March 19, 2025, Yulissa waived her right to a speedy trial and agreed to the Back on Track Program. The terms read, 'If you are accepted by the State Attorney's Office and comply and successfully complete all conditions of the Back on Track Program, you will then be able to enter a plea and receive a withhold of adjudication on a reduced charge of reckless driving." The length of participation is 12 months for a DUI-tier II and she will receive a suspended sentence, which means no jail time. Her next court hearing is April 6, 2026. Yulissa did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun's request for comment. OUT OF THE VILLA Yulissa was cut from the villa off-camera in just the second episode of the season before any of her fellow Islanders had even woken up. She had been an original islander on season 7 of Love Island USA, which premiered earlier this month. Her exit came after old podcast clips emerged on Reddit, showing Yulissa using the N-word while talking about her ex-boyfriends. Last week, Yulissa broke her silence over social media when she returned home from Love Island USA 's villa. She wrote on Instagram, "First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using. Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly. "In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use. "At the time, I was speaking casually in conversation, not thinking deeply or critically about what I was saying. But that doesn't take away from how wrong it was. The truth is, I didn't know better then, but I do now. I've taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment. "I've changed a lot since then, not just in how I speak, but in how I show up, how I carry myself, and how I honor the experiences of others. Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it's uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability." She ended, "To those who are disappointed or offended, I understand and I apologize. I am sorry." She then posted how cancel culture is not "accountability" and is instead "online brutality," as she has received death threats. She wrote, 'No one deserves to be erased over one moment. For the ones who didn't make it — may you rest in peace. For the ones who are scared to speak — I got you. And for myself — because I'm done staying quiet. 'My name is Yulissa Escobar. And this is NOT where my story ends. One mistake does not define a human. And that moment? Was four years ago. I've clearly grown and I'm just getting started.' Flames tear through Edinburgh flat as dozens of firefighters battle blaze

Terrifying footage shows a firefighter being elevated up to the third floor while battling the ferocious blaze which had engulfed a flat. Over 25 firefighters have battled a blaze which tore through a flat in Edinburgh late last night. Emergency crews, including police, the ambulance service and at least 25 firefighters, raced to the incident at a block of flats on Gunnet Court, Muirhouse. ‌ The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service noted that they received the call shortly before 11pm last night (Thursday June 19) and mobilised five pump appliances and a height vehicle, reports Edinburgh Live. ‌ Horror images from the scene show a firefighter battling orange flames coming from a 3rd floor flat as black smoke can be seen billowing from the building. The height vehicle was used to extinguish the blaze as the firefighter could be seen spraying water into the flat while being elevated by the appliance while the whole apartment was engulfed in flames. The area, including Muirhouse View, was taped off by emergency services as several police cars could also be seen. It is understood residents were evacuated as a group of people could be seen standing behind a cordon watching on. Hero firefighters fought the fire for three hours before leaving the area at around 2am on Friday June 20. ‌ A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received reports of a fire at a flat on Gunnet Court, at Muirhouse View, at 22.50 hours on Thursday, June 20. We mobilised five appliances and a height vehicle. "The fire on a third floor flat was extinguished and the last appliances left the scene at 2am. Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance." It is currently not known if there were any casualties. The Scottish Ambulance Service was approached for comment. ‌ Yesterday, in a separate incident, we reported that a major Scots motorway was closed in both directions after a pickup truck went up in flames. Traffic was drawn to a halt on Thursday afternoon after the white vehicle combusted into a blaze on M90 near Kinross. ‌ Hero firefighters raced to the scene and both lanes of the busy road were closed while the inferno was extinguished. Shocking images from the scene show giant orange flames towering from the shell of the white vehicle as thick grey smoke billows into the air. ‌ It is unknown if there were any casualties but by around 1.45pm on June 19 the fire was put out and all lanes were reopened to traffic. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they received a number of calls at around 12.45pm regarding a pick up truck on fire, on the M90 near Kinross. Two appliances attended the fire and all lanes were closed. They have now left the scene and carriageway is fully open. Police Scotland has also been approached for comment. Mob targeted in Edinburgh gang war recruit new enforcer to replace slain gangster

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A mob caught up in the ongoing Edinburgh gang war have warned they have recruited a new enforcer. A new group calling themselves the "A Team" recently hit back at those orchestrating a series of firebombings and shootings in Edinburgh and Glasgow and laughed-off recent incidents. A number of chilling threats have been issued from the Daniel and Mark Richardson outfit on social media as they say a new enforcer has been recruited to replace slain Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll. Earlier in the week they said "bullets win" and warned retribution was coming the way of Dubai-based gangster Ross McGill who is believed to be behind continuous attacks across the central belt. As the Record reports, the threats have been issued in wake of the double-murder of Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan in Spain. A message from the "A Team" told rival operatives: "You allegedly got rid of this man out of total fear. RIP, Gerbil. He would have terrorised you. A real soldier, like our new friend who has replaced him." In a series of mocking posts they branded former Rangers "ultra" McGill a "keyboard gangster" who was engaged in "school boy" attacks via his TMJ gang. Another message read: "Take your wannabe joke of a clan and come back when you are all man enough to handle stuff like men." Feared Daniels enforcer Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll was gunned down in 2010 as he sat in the back seat of an Audi in the Asda car park in Robroyston. The son-in-law of mobster Jamie Daniel was known for kidnapping and torturing rival drug dealers in attacks dubbed "alien abductions". Ross Monaghan was arrested over the shooting but was acquitted after a judge at the High Court in Glasgow ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him. William 'Buff' Paterson, 45, was later convicted of the murder in 2015 and sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison. Earlier this week the Record revealed around a dozen senior members from the Daniel clan and Richardson mob had fled Scotland. An underworld source said: "Nobody knows exactly where they have gone or how long for but most of them are believed to be in Dubai and the rest are in the Costa del Sol. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages "The TMJ gang were watching closely and hoping to catch one of them out in the open but all of a sudden they just upped sticks and left." The move came after Spanish cops blamed the double execution of Lyons Jnr and pal Ross Monaghan on "an internal member of the Daniel gang". Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: "We have been assisting Spanish colleagues with their investigation into the fatal shootings in Fuengirola. "We are not aware of any current evidence which suggests the deaths of these two men in Spain are linked to the recent criminal attacks in Scotland being investigated as part of Operation Portaledge." Michael Riley, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in connection with the shooting in Spain on Thursday. The total number of arrests in connection with the investigation Operation Portaledge is 48.
