Engineer loses RM114,000 to phone scam
Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the incident occurred on Aug 5, when the 31-year-old victim received a call from an individual claiming he was under investigation for involvement in an account fraud syndicate.
He said the suspect had instructed the victim to make several payments in order to avoid arrest and to clear his name, Bernama reported.
'The victim made five transactions amounting to RM114,000 to four different bank accounts over a span of two days,' he said in a statement.
The victim realised he had been deceived when he could no longer contact the individual.

Police hunt two suspects over Brickfields armed fight
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are searching for two men believed to have been involved in an armed altercation outside an entertainment centre on Jalan Tun Sambanthan. The incident occurred early this morning and left two individuals injured. Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed that both suspects are in their early 30s. Man nabbed in connection with fatal Miri hit-and-run

MIRI (Aug 9): Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Aug 7 along Jalan Dato Sri Joseph Balan Seling here. Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the suspect was detained the next day at 5.17pm by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division personnel, with one vehicle also seized. 'The arrest was made possible following public information regarding the suspect's involvement in the incident,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Farhan added the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, as well as disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years, upon conviction. He reminded road users to always practise courteous driving and comply with traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users. The hit-and-run claimed the life of a 33-year-old male pedestrian who was headed back to Krokop with a co-worker around 2am after a round of drinks in the Permyjaya area. Mohd Farhan in a statement issued after the incident said the co-worker had walked ahead of the victim and only realised the victim was not behind him upon reaching a traffic light junction. Police record 14 statements over break-in at Lim Guan Eng trial witness's home
PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded statements from 14 people to assist in the investigation into the break-in at the home of a key prosecution witness in the corruption trial involving former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, on Jalan Bukit Gasing. Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said that so far, 14 statements have been taken to aid the investigation. He added that the police are also tracking down several other witnesses believed to be able to assist in the case. "Investigations are still ongoing to identify the suspects involved in the incident," he said when contacted today. It was previously reported that the suspects, armed with parangs, escaped with stolen items estimated to be worth RM300,000. The victim suffered injuries to the mouth and wrist, while two of his security guards were tied up by the assailants, who also warned them: "Don't be a hero. Stay home and keep quiet." Last Wednesday, police confirmed that the robbery was not linked to the victim's role as a key witness in the ongoing corruption trial. Lim, who is also the DAP national chairman, is facing multiple corruption charges in the Sessions Court related to the Penang Undersea Tunnel Project.
