Siouxland Soup Kitchen keeping people warm with a hearty meal
Every night Monday through Friday, the soup kitchen opens its doors to feed more than a hundred people.
Local first responders working in cold weather conditions
'We usually average between 130 to 160 diners a night,' Siouxland Soup Kitchen board member Heather Albrecht said. 'We definitely like to serve a warm meal every night.'
On Monday night's menu was a personal favorite of many: lasagna.
'Today we did pick lasagna due to the cold,' Albrecht said. 'I got to make the choice, and it is one of the favorites, and it's a nice, warm, hearty meal.'
With more than a hundred mouths to feed, the Siouxland Soup Kitchen needs all the hands and ingredients it can get to make it all possible.
'Well, we definitely need the volunteers to come and help us prepare,' Albrecht said. 'We've got some volunteers in the kitchen right now that are helping prepare tonight's meal. Tonight, we're using 50 pounds of ground beef that was donated for the lasagna, and we plan to make enough to serve 170 to 200 people.'

The soup kitchen runs completely off of donations and volunteers. Officials thanked people that help them out and encourage more people to join.
'The donations that we receive allow us to provide a good, healthy meal,' Albrecht said. 'So without the donations, without our volunteers, we wouldn't be able to do what we're doing.'

Blind dog's arrival to rescue leaves workers worried
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The arrival of a 6-year-old blind dog has workers at the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center asking for help. An unidentified person delivered the dog named Raven to the center in a kennel early Thursday afternoon. The shelter has more questions than answers. 'We're actively looking for the community's help to try and find out who the person is that abandoned this dog along the roadway. It's very, very hot today, and it wouldn't have taken long, would have succumbed to this heat,' said Rarrat. Center officials say if anyone has information about this, please call them. Sioux City Public Museum to offer another Peirce Mansion tour
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Public Museum will soon be offering another tour of the Peirce Mansion and the nearby area. The tour will take place on June 24 and last for approximately two hours, allowing those who attend to check out the Peirce Mansion and the surrounding neighborhood. The mansion was built by Sioux City developer John Peirce. Peirce helped the city grade the hilly area and establish a cable car line that once ran the full length of Jackson Street up to 40th Street. After the house tour, the Jackson Street Walking Tour will begin at 6:30 pm. This leg of the tour will take attendees on a guided tour that explores Jackson Street and the surrounding neighborhood's history. Topics will include notable residents and architecture. He was found on the 1800 block of Villa Avenue about one-month ago. The rescue said he's a strong guy that loves people.
