Johor Police Receive 130 Reports Over Wellness Package Scam Totaling RM698,000
JOHOR BAHRU, May 13 (Bernama) -- Johor police have received 130 reports from individuals who claimed they were cheated by a health and wellness company, 38 Speed Relax and Wellness, with total losses amounting to RM698,155.67.
State police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the victims had purchased packages priced according to the number of treatments selected, with services supposedly available at any of the company's outlets nationwide, at any time.
'However, the victims only realised they had been duped when they could no longer contact the company to schedule appointments. They later discovered that all of the company's outlets had ceased operations without any prior notice,' he said in a statement today.

Border wall proposed to plug smuggling loopholes in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: A permanent wall or fence along the Kelantan–Thailand border is viewed as the most effective solution to combat persistent smuggling activities in the state, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. He said the 45-kilometre border stretch remains too exposed, making comprehensive enforcement challenging. "For that entire stretch, we have only eight control posts. Naturally, many gaps continue to be exploited by smugglers," he said. "In my opinion, only the construction of a complete border wall can effectively address this issue," he told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department's (NCID) 2025 Case Disposal event at the state police headquarters here today. Yusoff added that the proposal to construct the wall had been submitted to the relevant authorities some time ago. He also noted a shift in drug trafficking trends in Kelantan, with smugglers now preferring to bring in smaller quantities compared to the large consignments seen previously. This change, he said, followed tighter enforcement and restrictions on cross-border movement through illegal entry points along Sungai Golok. "Previously, we made large seizures. Now, traffickers are more cautious and smuggle in smaller amounts. Still, yaba pills remain the most in-demand drug in the state," he said. – BERNAMA

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's unemployment rate dropped from 3.1% in March to 3% in April, the lowest in 10 years, according to a report released by the statistics department today. Chief statistician Uzir Mahidin said the number of unemployed people decreased by 0.7% to 525,900 in April 2025, compared with 529,600 in March. Advertisement 'A promising national economic position has contributed to stable progress in Malaysia's labour force, with an increase in the number of employed people and higher labour force participation rates, while unemployment continues to decrease,' Bernama reported him as saying. Uzir said labour force numbers continued their upward trend in April, increasing by 0.2% to 17.34 million people compared with 17.31 million in March. 'Consequently, the labour force participation rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 70.8% compared with 70.7% in March,' he said. In terms of the economic sector, Uzir said the services sector remains a key driver of employment growth, particularly in wholesale and retail trade, accommodation, food and beverage services, as well as transport and storage activities. He said positive trends were also recorded across the manufacturing, construction, agriculture and mining and quarrying sectors. Uzir said the unemployment rate for youths aged 15 to 24 years remained unchanged at 10.3% in April 2025, with 298.3 thousand unemployed youths. He said the number of people outside the labour force rose to 7.17 million in April compared with 7.16 million the previous month, mainly due to housework and family responsibilities, which accounted for 43.7%, followed by schooling and training reasons at 41.1%. He said the country's labour force was expected to remain optimistic and expand in the coming months, bolstered by strong economic policies and stable domestic demand. Hailing from Debak, Gilberd, who is Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department (JLog) Deputy Director Technical/Operations, takes over from Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan, who retired after 37 years of service in the force. The handing-over-of-duty ceremony was held at the Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hasim Hall, Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today and was witnessed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. Ayob Khan, in his speech, described Sahabudin, who led JLog with commitment and integrity for almost four years since July 5, 2021, as a highly credible person. 'Throughout his 37 years of service, he has held various strategic positions at the contingent and department levels, namely the Kedah and Penang contingents, the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) and the Logistics Department. 'The effectiveness of his leadership also enabled various initiatives by other departments to be realised towards improving the force's service delivery inclusively,' he was quoted as saying by Bernama. Ayob Khan said that among JLog's proud achievements under Sahabudin's leadership was the development of the SMART Lockup system, which won the Asia Pacific Enterprise Innovation Award 2015. It was developed in collaboration with Mosti and Mimos. Another is the installation of permanent electricity in Bukit Tagasan, Semporna, welfare projects such as the Aksem Quarters in Padang Besar, as well as the empowerment of the Bomb Disposal Unit, which successfully dealt with high-calibre explosives. Meanwhile, Sahabudin, in his speech, said he was grateful to be able to end his career in a meaningful way and apologised for any shortcomings during his period of service. 'I gave everything. I did my best. But of course, sometimes my best wasn't good enough,' he said emotionally. He said JLog's leadership requires a collective approach and wisdom in making strategic decisions.
