CM Revanth Reddy offers 1,580 tmcft deal to Andhra Pradesh, seeks NOC for Telangana projects; warns of legal fight over Godavari-Banakacherla (GB) link project

Time of India6 hours ago

HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy Wednesday made an open offer to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu: If the AP govt believes that over 3,000 tmcft of surplus or floodwater from the Godavari flows into the sea every year, then it should issue a blanket no objection certificate (NOC) allowing Telangana to use 1,000 tmcft from the Godavari and 580 tmcft from the Krishna for its ongoing and future irrigation projects.
In return, Revanth said, Telangana would not oppose AP's use of surplus waters from either river.
"If AP believes 3,000 tmcft of water is going waste every year, we are ready to cooperate. Let both states use the river water without objecting to each other's projects," he said, addressing the media after an all-party meeting on the Godavari-Banakacherla (GB) link project.
Revanth accused the AP govt of unilaterally proceeding with the GB link project in violation of norms.
"We will fight this through every constitutional means-complaints to central agencies, legal recourse, and finally taking the matter to the people," he said.
CM: BRS Never Objected To AP Water Diversion From Srisailam
After making an open offer to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart on sharing Godavari and Krishna water, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday criticised BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Revanth alleged that former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao gave AP the reason to justify Banakacherla project.

'During the Apex Council meeting in 2016, KCR claimed that 3,000 tmcft of water flows waste into the sea annually. That statement has now become AP's basis for pushing the project,' he said.
The CM also played video clips of KCR publicly stating that he would support AP, as a 'big brother,' in supplying water to drought-hit Rayalaseema. 'KCR repeatedly said 'no basins, no ego'. He even met then CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy four times.
Following those meetings, the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme was taken up and BRS never objected to Krishna water diversion from Srisailam,' he pointed out.
He also lashed out at former irrigation minister T Harish Rao for 'spreading misinformation' against the Congress govt on the Banakacherla issue. 'They ruled for 10 years, yet didn't complete a single major project on Krishna or Godavari. They built only Kaleshwaram project and it has collapsed,' he said.
Revanth also criticised Union minister G Kishan Reddy for not attending the all-party meeting. 'Kishan Reddy did not come to the meeting but he met jal shakti minister on Wednesday as we are meeting him on Thursday. He must have informed the Union minister not to give any assurance to us,' the CM alleged.
The all-party meeting was attended by Congress MPs, BJP MPs DK Aruna and M Raghunandan Rao, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and BRS MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra.
Meanwhile, responding to CM Revanth Reddy's allegations, Harish Rao accused him of twisting facts. Harish Rao said Revanth quoted only point No. 1 from the meeting, while ignoring other key portions where KCR had clearly stated that the Centre should not proceed with the Godavari-Krishna linking project without consulting the Telangana govt.

12-hour shifts for Bengaluru techies? Karnataka govt's proposal sparks outrage among IT unions, who call it 'modern-day slavery'

Representative Image NEW DELHI: The Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU) has called on workers across sectors to resist the state government's proposed move to increase daily working hours in the IT, ITeS, and BPO sectors to 12 hours. Several trade unions on Wednesday voiced strong opposition to the alleged proposal during a meeting convened by the Labour Department to discuss a possible amendment to the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act. The amendment reportedly seeks to increase the daily work limit from the current maximum of 10 hours, including overtime, to 12 hours. KITU, which participated in the meeting, described the proposal as a form of "modern-day slavery" and appealed to employees to unite in opposition. It warned that the change would severely impact work-life balance and job security. KITU leaders Suhas Adiga and Lenil Babu were among those who attended the meeting with industry representatives and labour officials. Noting that the law currently allows up to 10 working hours per day including overtime, KITU alleged that the amendment would "legalise 12-hour shifts and facilitate a two-shift system, potentially eliminating one-third of the workforce." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? This amendment is not about productivity—it's about pleasing corporate bosses by turning human beings into machines,' said Suhas Adiga. KITU also cited mental health concerns, pointing to the findings of the State Emotional Wellbeing Report 2024, which stated that 90 per cent of corporate employees under 25 suffer from anxiety. The union reiterated its stance that the proposed change undermines workers' fundamental rights and vowed to continue resisting it.

Russian war machine makes NATO jittery, Ukraine military aid to be kept under wraps

Even as its over three-year-long war against Ukraine drags on, Russia has intensified its activities near NATO borders through confirmed airspace violations over Finland, widespread GPS jamming in the Baltics, strategic militarization of the Arctic, cyberattacks on Western infrastructure , and recent bomber flights over the Baltic Sea. These developments have prompted NATO to reassess its transparency protocols, culminating in a decision to classify details of military aid to Ukraine to prevent Moscow from exploiting publicly available intelligence for strategic and propaganda purposes. Officials from multiple NATO member states confirmed the shift in policy ahead of the alliance's summit in The Hague later this month on June 25. Live Events NATO to classify Ukraine military aid details to counter Russian exploitation NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a high-level meeting in Kyiv that the alliance will begin classifying specific details related to military assistance. The decision aims to limit Russia's ability to track arms deliveries, quantities, and operational timelines. 'We must protect sensitive information,' Rutte said following the meeting. 'Russia is actively trying to trace how, what, and when we deliver military aid to Ukraine. NATO must respond accordingly.' The policy will not reduce actual aid volumes. NATO has delivered over €20 billion in military assistance to Ukraine in 2025, including direct arms shipments and financing for defense production. 'It gives the impression that they are following it even more closely than our own media.' Russian state television and online platforms have been closely tracking statements from NATO ministers, particularly regarding funding and armaments allocated to Ukraine. This includes coverage of NATO's €20 billion aid announcement and meetings involving Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. The Kremlin's media apparatus has also targeted Western leaders through disinformation, including fabricated incidents involving French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. NATO officials said these campaigns reinforce the need for greater operational secrecy. Member states tighten information policies as NATO aid increases Some NATO countries have already begun implementing the policy. Germany, for example, has stopped publicizing the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles and has classified military assistance data. 'At first, we published everything. Then we asked ourselves: Why? We were even listing the number of missiles and munitions. In the end, we realized it was helping Putin, not the German public,' a German diplomat stated. The Netherlands has also pledged an additional €400 million in military support, to be used for ammunition, air defense systems, and maintenance of existing equipment. Trump ends specialized LGBTQ+ youth suicide hotline; California Governor Newsom vows state will fill the gap

The Trump administration has ordered an end to federal funding for the nation's only specialized suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth , sparking outrage from advocates and setting up a new flashpoint with California Governor Gavin Newsom. The move, which will take effect July 17 and eliminates the 'Press 3' option on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, prompted Newsom to swiftly promise that California will step in to protect and expand mental health support for LGBTQ youth. The move, according to Newsom, will ensure the state remains a safe haven for vulnerable young people. Federal officials argue that the general 988 Lifeline, which will continue to receive $520 million in funding, is sufficient for all callers. A spokesperson for the White House Office of Management and Budget said, 'The president's Budget funds the 988 at $520 million - the same number as under Biden. It does not, however, grant taxpayer money to a chat service where children are encouraged to embrace radical gender ideology by 'counselors' without consent or knowledge of their parents.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo Since taking office in January 2025, President Trump has signed multiple executive orders aimed at limiting transgender rights and rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in both government and the private sector. Live Events Advocates and mental health professionals have condemned the decision as dangerous and politically motivated. The Trevor Project , which has handled more than 1.3 million contacts from LGBTQ youth since the service launched in 2022, received a stop-work order this week. CEO Jaymes Black called the move 'devastating,' adding, 'Suicide prevention is about people, not politics. The administration's decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible.' Governor Newsom responded swiftly, denouncing the federal rollback as 'outrageous and inexcusable.' He announced that California will invest further in mental health services for LGBTQ youth, highlighting the state's $4.7 billion Master Plan for Kids' Mental Health and direct partnerships with organizations like The Trevor Project. 'While this federal administration slashes services and tries to erase LGBTQ people, California will do the opposite. Every child — straight, gay, transgender — belongs,' Newsom declared. The state operates 12 crisis centers for the 988 Lifeline and maintains additional digital support resources, ensuring that LGBTQ youth in California will continue to have access to specialized crisis counseling. This latest policy clash follows a series of confrontations between Newsom and Trump, including over federal immigration enforcement and ICE raids. As the July 17 cutoff approaches, the fate of specialized suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth hangs in the balance nationwide. In California, at least, state leaders are making clear they will not follow Washington's lead, and are prepared to invest heavily to ensure that vulnerable young people do not lose access to the support they need.
