Entries for suggesting names for Oravel Stays, a parent firm of Ritesh Agarwal led OYO, have begun and will close soon, the founder shared on Instagram, stating the winner will receive ₹ 3 lakh. This comes amid the global travel tech platform getting ready to launch its Initial Public Offering (IPO).
Ritesh mentioned that the ideal name should be bold and one-word, global in appeal, not rooted in any single culture or language. It should feel tech-forward, sharp, yet human and memorable. The name must be broad enough to evolve beyond hospitality, and ideally, the .com domain should be available. He's offering a prize of ₹ 3 lakh to the winner, along with an opportunity to meet him.
"We're renaming the corporate brand behind it all. Not the hotel chain, not a consumer product — but the parent company powering a global ecosystem of urban innovation and modern living. We believe it's time the world had a new kind of global brand — born in India, but built for the world," Ritesh had said.
'There is a high possibility that the name chosen through the exercise may end up being the name of the premium hotels app that OYO has been working to launch in the near future,' PTI quoted the people familiar with the development as saying.

China tightens supply: India's auto industry seeks govt help on rare earth magnet imports; key EV parts impacted
The Indian automobile industry has urged the government to step in and help fast-track pending approvals from Chinese authorities for importing rare earth magnets —key components used in electric motors and various car applications. According to PTI, industry sources revealed that, several Indian suppliers have applied for approvals through their local partners in China. But no permissions have been granted so far. China processes over 90% of the world's rare earth magnets , which are widely used in parts like speedometers, electric motors, e-axles, electric water pumps, automatic transmission kits, speakers, sensors, and engine ignition coils. Since April 4, the Chinese government has imposed restrictions requiring special export licences for seven rare earth elements and related magnets. In Japan, Suzuki Motor halted Swift production due to these restrictions. Earlier last week, Maruti Suzuki India's Senior Executive Officer, Rahul Bharti, said that China has requested an end-user certificate, which must be endorsed by the Indian government and approved by the Chinese authorities. "So that process is on and industry is in discussion with the government," he added. Deloitte India's Automotive Sector Leader Rajat Mahajan highlights this shortage as a significant supply chain disruption , particularly affecting EVs. These magnets possess high magnetic energy storage capacity with low coercivity at elevated operating temperatures. "This has been an R&D topic for the automotive industry for a long time but till now other magnetic materials have not seen large scale commercial usage in applications like EV," he continued. There aren't enough rare earth magnets available for recycling to meet current EV production demands, said Mahajan, adding that it's not easy for automakers to quickly shift to different powertrains or alternative materials. "This situation will hopefully get resolved via diplomatic channels, but if it continues then we may see a shift towards powertrains for large OEMs," he further noted. Icra's senior vice president and co-group head for Corporate Ratings, Srikumar Krishnamurthy, explained that rare earth magnets are essential in several EV components like electric motors, regenerative braking systems, and power steering. Since China supplies around 90% of the world's rare earth magnets, its recent export restrictions could significantly impact the EV industry. This might lead to higher prices due to shortages and even disrupt production schedules. "The implications could include inflationary pressures (led by higher cost for rare earth magnets against the backdrop of shortage) or even disruption in production schedules in absence of a seamless supply of the same," Krishnamurthy added. While carmakers are exploring ways to cut reliance on Chinese supplies, finding immediate alternatives remains difficult. These rare earth materials include critical elements such as samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, and lutetium—used not only in EVs but also in smartphones and missile technology.

'Bullish on Indian market': European plane maker ATR eyes expansion in India; in talks with airlines
N EW DELHI: European aircraft manufacturer ATR is exploring business opportunities in India and is in talks with both scheduled and non-scheduled carriers to sell its aircraft. Given India's market growth potential, a senior ATR executive said it expects 300 additional turboprops operating in the country in the next 10 years. ATR remains "very bullish" on the Indian market and is actively engaged in talks with some of the operators, the company's Asia Pacific head Jean-Pierre Clercin told news agency PTI. He projected that India could accommodate 300 more turboprop aircraft over the next 10 years. While he didn't share specific details, he confirmed ongoing discussions with both scheduled and non-scheduled carriers, including current ATR operators. ATR, a joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo, builds turboprop aircraft that seat up to 78 passengers and also offers freighter versions. ATR's global presence includes 1,800 aircraft delivered to 200 operators across 100 countries. Currently, around 70 ATR aircraft are in service across India, operated by airlines like IndiGo, Alliance Air, and FLY91. India, one of the world's fastest-growing civil aviation markets, is witnessing rapid expansion in both the number of airports and regional air connectivity. Currently home to over 160 operational airports, the country plans to add 50 more in the next five years. "We are keen on exploring further ties in India," Clercin said, adding that the company is also looking at academic partnerships with universities. Regarding tariff uncertainties, Clercin acknowledged the unpredictable nature of outcomes. "We are trying to, of course, not impose higher pricing, unrealistic pricing to our airlines. But the good thing is, with our platform, we have the most cost-effective platform from an operating cost point of view of the regional market," he noted. For a domestic market with many short routes under an hour, ATR aircraft offer a cost-effective solution, making them ideal for such operations, he added. Tata Steel to begin UK electric arc furnace project by July
Tata Steel will begin construction of its electric arc furnace (EAF)-based steel making facility at Port Talbot in July 2025, with operations expected to start by 2027. The development follows receipt of planning approvals and is part of the company's transition from traditional blast furnace-based production to a lower-emission process. PTI has reported that the company's $1.5 billion project is backed by £500 million in funding from the UK Government. Tata Steel CEO and MD T V Narendran, and ED and CFO Koushik Chatterjee confirmed the timeline in the company's FY2024-25 annual report. 'We are now transitioning to decarbonised and state-of-the-art EAF-based steelmaking by FY2027-28, supported by 500 million pounds in the UK Government funding ,' the company said. Shift in operations and cost structure Tata Steel has closed its upstream operations in the UK and is currently supplying customers using imported substrate from India, the Netherlands and other sources. 'We have exited from steelmaking through the end-of-life heavy end assets in Port Talbot, and moved to a downstream model using imported substrate from India, the Netherlands and other external sources,' a company official said. Tata Steel Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the company is progressing with its plan to shift to lower-emission steel production. 'The decommissioning of two blast furnaces at Port Talbot has cleared the way for the next-generation Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) project, supported by the UK government,' he said. The company is targeting a reduction in fixed costs from £762 million in FY25 to £540 million over the next year. These reductions will be achieved by optimising substrate costs, modernising IT systems, streamlining downstream operations, and cutting corporate overheads. The EAF, once operational, will have a production capacity of 3.2 million tonnes of steel annually and is expected to reduce more than 50 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the next decade.
