'What kind of person will do this?': Shanmugam condemns abuse, killing of Yishun community cat
SINGAPORE - Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam condemned the gruesome killing of a community cat in Yishun, which was found on the morning of May 9 disemboweled, and with its eyes gouged out.
In a Facebook post on May 9, Mr Shanmugam said: 'What kind of person will do this? This is not who we are as a people.'
Photos of the cat were posted to Facebook page Sayang Our Singapore's Community Cats on May 9, with a warning that a cat killer was at large in Yishun.
'The cat's name is KingKong, and he is well loved. I fed him daily and cannot believe this news,' read the post which also appealed for witnesses.
In response to The Straits Times' query, the National Parks Board's (NParks) group director of enforcement and investigation Jessica Kwok said NParks received feedback on a cat that was found dead at Yishun Street 51.
NParks is looking into the matter, she added.
Ms Kwok said NParks takes all feedback received from the public on animal cruelty seriously, and advised members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of animal cruelty.
Members of the public can also provide potential evidence at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/feedback-and-enquiry, or call NParks via its Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600.
'As with all investigations, all forms of evidence are crucial to the process, and photographic and/or video-graphic evidence provided by the public will help,' said Ms Kwok.

Jared Leto is facing allegations from nine women of inappropriate behaviour, including with a teenage girl. The frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars and star of films including House of Gucci and Suicide Squad, 53, is alleged to have inflicted the behaviour on them over the course of nearly two decades, and the accusations involve women who say they were teenagers at the time of the alleged incidents. She further alleged Jared "knew" her age but "didn't care", describing his actions as "predatory, terrifying and unacceptable". A second woman, who remained anonymous, told Air Mail Jared approached her in 2006 when she was 16 at Urth Caffe in Los Angeles. She said: "I looked down and it was Jared Leto. We had a quick conversation, and he got my number." She claimed the actor called her days later, adding: "I don't know if he was on drugs or what… it was the weirdest, grossest voice… (but) for me, it's Jared, you know?" The woman alleged their late-night conversations "turned sexual", and claimed Leto asked: "Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a d***?" Model Laura La Rue, 33, also alleged she met Leto in 2008 when she was 16 and he was 36, at a Yes! on Prop Two animal rights benefit. She said: "He asked how old I was. I said, 'I'm 16. How old are you?'" La Rue claimed Jared still asked for her number despite knowing her age, and later invited her to his Los Angeles home, where he was "flirting" and "teasing (her) the whole time (she) was there." Mr Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, was last seen on May 27 at a bar in an upmarket suburb in the capital, sparking a police probe and a frenzied search by his parents. Police on June 4 afternoon 'received information that a man was found lying on his back in the lift (shaft) on the ground floor of a (building) construction site,' Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said in a statement. Fire and rescue services recovered the body, which was sent for a post mortem, he added. 'The results found that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height,' Datuk Rusdi said. 'No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report,' he said, adding the body was identified by the victim's uncle based on a tattoo. Brickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed to AFP that Mr Johnson-Doyle was identified as the victim. Mr Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer, was last seen on May 27 in the bustling Bangsar district, known for its nightlife, trendy bars and cafes. Mr Johnson-Doyle's mother Leanne Burnett, 44, told the Free Malaysia Today news website that her husband had travelled to Kuala Lumpur to look for their son, adding that the family was 'distraught' over his disappearance. Singapore-registered supercar owners fined for parking illegally in Thailand, Asia News
The owners of four Singapore-registered sports cars have been fined 500 to 1,000 baht (S$19 to S$40) each for parking illegally in Phuket, Thailand, according to multiple Thai media reports on Wednesday (June 4). Footage of the four vehicles illegally parked by a road outside a high-end restaurant in Phuket began trending on Wednesday on social media platform Line and Facebook pages, according to Thai publication Thaiger. Among the four, one of the cars was marked with a sticker that read "GTR Owners Club Singapore", The Phuket News reported. They were parked on a road with red and white lines, which is prohibited in Thailand. Locals expressed outrage over the vehicles' owners' flouting of traffic laws, prompting officers to react. Officers from the Phuket City Police Station responded, clamping the vehicles and handing fines to their owners who are believed to be tourists, Thai publication Khaosod reported. They were later instructed to shift their vehicles away to prevent obstruction of traffic, The Phuket News reported. Following this incident, a Thai influencer's post on Facebook showing the four Singapore-registered supercars went viral. As at Friday afternoon, the post has garnered over 10,300 likes. In the video, four Nissan GTRs can be seen lined up by the side of the road as the person recording the video turns the corner. "Why do all cars of this mode have to have wheel locks like this?" the influencer cheekily captioned the video. Many Facebook users also expressed their frustration towards the purported foreigners, with one user commenting: "The most disgusting thing is being a foreigner and not respecting Thai law." However, others felt that the fine of 1,000 baht is too lenient for these owners, with some suggesting that it would be more of a "parking fee" to them.
