IT is one of the most nostalgic TV reboots of the year – but I can reveal the return of Blind Date will come with a very modern Love Island-style twist.
Earlier this month I revealed the programme, made famous by host Cilla Black in the Eighties on ITV, was being revived by Disney+.

The Blind Date revival will be set on a tropical island — just like Love Island, hosted by Maya Jama
But it will have a different flavour because much of the show will be spent on a tropical island — just like Love Island, hosted by Maya Jama— where contestants will compete for a dream wedding on the golden sands.
A TV insider said: 'This sounds like a radical departure from the old Blind Date, one that definitely has hints of Love Island about it.
"But fans will recall a lot of the dates took place in hot, sunny climes abroad, and producers want to recapture some of the steamy fun, and expand upon that.
'Even the wedding element has hints of the old show, because the dream was always that the dates on the programme would lead to couples tying the knot.'
Cilla was at the helm for 18 years on the show which saw a contestant firing questions at three hopefuls concealed from their view by a wall — which slid back to reveal their chosen date.
One of the hopefuls in 1991 was Amanda Holden.
The TV insider added: 'In the reboot, the creators are not entirely dispensing with all of the old characteristics either as there are still plans to incorporate the show's famous sliding wall and hire a top female host just like Cilla.'
Disney+ is imminently expected to confirm it is reviving Blind Date, though all details have been kept firmly under wraps.
No presenter has signed up as yet but the channel is targeting some big names in British TV, with the main criteria being that they have to be hugely famous women.
Here's hoping whoever gets the role doesn't mind getting a bit of sand between their toes in the course of the job.

Through the airline she works for, she finds herself blackmailed into drug smuggling after her son is imprisoned in Bulgaria for a murder he claims he didn't commit.
The six-parter, set in Bangkok, Bulgaria, Istanbul and London, wrapped filming this spirng and is set to air later this year.
STEPHEN IN TECH LESSON
STEPHEN FRY wants to make a futuristic TV drama series where e-mails, TikTok and SnapChat are 'uncool' and people return to basic communication in 'an unplugged life'.
The Celebrity Traitors star told podcast Extraordinary Life Stories: 'I was planning to write a TV series in which this kid comes to a school and completely changes it.'
The pupil asks the teacher how to submit his essay as he doesn't have a computer so can't email it.
Stephen continues: 'All the other (pupils) think 'Who is this ridiculous child?'
"But then he starts influencing everybody. They think this is quite a fun way to live.
'We've come to a tipping point now where the uncoolest thing in the world is Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok.
"We know they're harmful, but they are also vapid and shallow and silly.
'Imagine an unplugged life using all these fabulous old tools. You'd be the coolest people.'
Bizbit
THE BBC has un- veiled two new podcasts. Double Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams will host the LGBT Sport Podcast, which begins today.
And 13 Minutes Presents: The Space Shuttle tells the stories of the people who helped change space exploration. It launches on July 14.
SEX JOKE BIT MUCH FOR WILL
BRIT actor Will Sharpe came over all prudish about a sex scene in upcoming Netflix rom-com series Too Much . . . well, compared with the Americans on set.
He cringed as US actress Megan Stalter, who plays the lead role in the show about an American woman coping with a new life in London, joked with the show's US creator Lena Dunham after the X-rated action.
At this week's launch of the show, which drops on July 10, Lena said: 'One of Meg's favourite things to do is to ask you after a take: 'What face were you making during that?'
"One time it was right after a sex scene and Meg was like: 'What face were you making during that?'
'And I heard Will's mic, like: 'Jesus f***ing Christ, Meg!''

What happened at the end of The Bear season 3? Ending explained
It's time to get back in the kitchen, because The Bear returns in just a matter of hours. The fourth season of the Disney Plus awards darling arrives on Thursday (June 26) with all episodes streaming just in time for a weekend binge. The last we saw of the Chicago sandwich joint it had been wholly gutted to create a haute cuisine restaurant coincidentally called The Bear. One of the best things going for the show is that it's always returned year in, year out despite the vanishing TV dependability elsewhere. But after two first seasons that made stars of its cast and had everyone saying 'yes chef!', the third installment was met with a more divisive reaction from viewers. This was largely because it was a slower and more sedate affair, with a batch of episodes that largely cast minds back to the past and didn't do much to progress the plot in the present. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Here's your quick refresher on season three just in time to pick up with season four, which has some high expectations upon it after a more 'meh' outing last year. The Bear season 3 spoilers follow. The fact that there isn't a whole bunch to recap from season three might indicate some flaws, but where we did leave off was with a lot at the restaurant hanging in the balance. In the final episode, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) was invited to the last supper at hotshot Michelin locale Ever. What unfolded was essentially a long reminiscing conversation about what the business of cheffing up really means. It was here that he finally confronted his longtime head chef tormentor (Joel McHale) – who would often feature in panicked flashbacks – but the whole thing left him unsatisfied when Carmy was hit with a Mad Men-style 'I never think about you at all' type response. In the last scene of season three, he received The Chicago Tribune review of the restaurant – but we never saw what it said. Dun, dun, dun. More Trending Another loose end from season three was what Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) will decide to do with her career, stay at The Bear or go elsewhere with another offer on the table? Plus, will Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) properly come knocking for his investment in the restaurant? And will Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) get his mojo back after a soul-sucking stint at The Bear under tyrannical Carmy? These are all questions that were left unanswered. We'll have to tune in to find out. Perhaps it will also get into something I've long wondered: wouldn't the people of Chicago be annoyed that a cheap, banging sandwich place shut down and became a pricey fine dining set-up? I'd be livid. View More » The Bear season 4 is available to stream on Disney Plus from June 26. Got a story? "I'm surprised England talisman isn't a d***head - everyone loves him"
The British and Irish Lions squad has spent several weeks together and Ireland's Dan Sheehan has joked that he's been surprised that by Ellis Genge - who he thought could've been a d***head British and Irish Lions star Dan Sheehan has been taken aback by new team-mate Ellis Genge and admits he's surprised "that he's not a dickhead.' The Ireland hooker and the England prop - rivals in recent years - are now colleagues. Sheehan has become one of the world's best in his position and is among the frontrunners to start the First Test in Australia. Genge, one of the talismanic leaders for England, is pushing his case to get the nod at prop and the Irishman has been pleasantly surprised by his foe turned friend. Andy Farrell's Lions squad is Irish heavy but Genge is one of a number of Englishman in the squad and was a standout during Friday night's disappointing loss to Argentina in Dublin. The Bristol Bears star has been a divisive character and is known for his aggression. Sheehan admits he is someone he and the Irish would target when they clash in the Six Nations. But those battles are put aside this summer with the whole squad embracing each other. Sheehan said: 'It's mad how fast you can go from despising people to hanging around to go for a coffee with them! It's probably just that rugby blokes are good blokes, you can turn on the hatred when you want it. 'Genge is obviously a passionate, animated player for England and someone who we, as Ireland, would consider as a talisman and someone, in an Irish jersey, we'd need to target. 'He's one person you enjoy having on the team. And he's a funny bloke off the pitch. I think everyone loves him. You can see the passion he brings to meetings, to pitch straight in and scrum. He's one person you enjoy having on your side now. He's very real and says it how it is. He's definitely someone that surprises you that he's not a d***head.' Genge has long been loved and admired by those who know him intimately. Footage has showed the English star taking a leadership role before Friday's clash, barking orders during the team huddle in the dressing room. Sheehan watched on for that clash given he had just played in a final with Leinster six days earlier, which saw them win the URC. The Ireland hooker has recently become the forward with the most tries in Six Nations history such is his quality in attack. He is likely to get his first run out on Saturday when the Lions play their first match on Australian soil against the Western Force in Perth - something he is relishing. He said: 'I feel sometimes if you haven't played yet you feel like a bit of an imposter. I want to feel I can contribute to the jersey just as others have had their chance.'

‘What a rush' – Brad Pitt on driving Formula One car as new movie hits cinemas
The Hollywood star, who plays F1 driver Sonny Hayes in the blockbuster film, was recently given the chance to drive McLaren's 2023 car around Austin's Circuit of the Americas. Pitt, 61, had plenty of driving experience – including behind the wheel of modified F2 cars – while filming the movie over the last two years, but was blown away by his first taste of an F1 car. 'Oh my God, what a rush,' Pitt said in a video on McLaren's social media channels. 'A lot bigger horse than I've been on.' Brad Pitt LOVES the MCL60 🤩✅#McLaren | #F1TheMovie — McLaren (@McLarenF1) June 25, 2025 Pitt added on the Beyond the Grid podcast: 'I got to hit 197mph this week. I really wanted to hit 200. You know, it hurts me a little bit – three miles per hour short on the straight. This was at Austin. 'You're so focused, but you're not white knuckling. You're just in this sublime groove. It is really extraordinary. 'I try to explain this feeling of downforce, and I fail every time because you try to say like a rollercoaster, but that's not even right, because you feel the fulcrum point underneath you – you're in it. 'I was in an aerobatic plane once, and it's the closest thing, but still this thing… this is such a unique feeling and an absolute high. I'm still on a high, I really am. I'm just still on a high.' Pitt's fictional rookie team-mate Joshua Pearce is played by British actor Damson Idris. Filming has taken place across multiple races over the last two seasons and F1 chiefs hope the movie will follow the popularity of Netflix's Drive To Survive series in cracking America. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is an executive producer on the movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski and co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, which will be released in the United States on Friday. Hamilton, 40, posted a picture of himself alongside Pitt as he reflected on the journey he had been on while making the film. 'Four years in the making — what a journey it's been,' Hamilton wrote on Instagram. 'I'm incredibly grateful to everyone at Apple and Warner Bros for believing in us and partnering with such heart and vision. To Joe and Jerry — thank you. I've learned so much from both of you and it's truly been an honour to work alongside you. 'These were taken on our very first day on track, with Brad at Silverstone looking into Copse Corner. What a moment. One of those memories that stick with you.'
