From mafia and mosquitoes to model city, Yogi praises Gorakhpur's transformation
He was speaking at an event on the Municipal Corporation campus as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 177 infrastructure projects worth ₹253 crore.
He also launched the state's first Urban Flood Management Cell for early warning and disaster prevention.
Emphasising transparency, accountability and uncompromised quality in development projects, he said, 'Every rupee spent is the people's money and must be utilised responsibly.'
The chief minister acknowledged the cooperation of the people of Gorakhpur in developmental efforts, including the sacrifice of personal property for road widening.
'As a result, the city now has wider roads and an improved drainage system,' he said.
Drains, which were once choked by mafia filth and became breeding grounds for mosquitoes, are now a thing of the past, he asserted.
The chief minister lauded the city's achievements under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25: 4th place nationally among mid-sized cities (population 3–10 lakhs) and 3rd place in the Safai Mitra Surakshit Shehar category.
'This is a massive leap from 24th place last year and 74th the year before,' he said, urging citizens to aim for a top-three national position next year, stressing that cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
Extending greetings for the holy month of Sawan and Sawan Shivratri, he felicitated sanitation workers and municipal councillors for their efforts. He presented a cheque for ₹1 lakh to Safai Mitra Sameer under the Safai Mitra Welfare Fund and flagged off 12 new sanitation vehicles inducted into the municipal fleet.
BJP MP Ravi Kishan said under Yogi Adityanath's guidance, Gorakhpur is setting new benchmarks in development. Mayor Dr Manglesh Srivastava pledged to improve the city's national ranking even further in the coming year.
The chief minister concluded by stating that 'Viksit Bharat by 2047' is only possible if all sectors, including sanitation, health, technology, and infrastructure, move forward together. The UP government, he affirmed, is fully committed to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India.

The Delhi High Court on Monday denied anticipatory bail to a police officer in a corruption case, observing that corruption by police officers erode public trust and dents the efficacy of the judicial system meant for creation of a peaceful society, The ruling stemmed from a petition filed by Delhi Police head constable Devender Kumar, seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. (HT Photo) Justice Girish Kathpalia in the 14-page ruling opined that cases of police corruption, especially targeting poor and marginalized communities, contribute to injustice and severely injures the body of the entire society. The ruling stemmed from a petition filed by Delhi Police head constable Devender Kumar, seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case had stemmed from a complaint filed by a man named Kalu, desribed as a 'bad character', who alleged that Kumar and another head constable had demanded `60,000 bribe to avoid falsely implicating him in a complex case. Kalu said that Kumar received ₹20,000/ and the rest of the amount, ₹40,000, was handed over to the other constable, who took the money and fled. Represented by senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, Kumar said that the complaint amounted to extortion and did not fall under the scope of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Gupta also pointed out to the 15-day delay in filing the complaint as grounds for bail. Meanwhile, the Delhi police opposed the bail on the ground that the act amounted to an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act since the bribe was demanded by Kumar in his capacity as a public servant and received while the co-accused was in uniform. However, the court noted, 'The shadow of corruption continues to plague parts of the police system, thereby undermining public trust. The unrest in society caused by corruption by persons highly placed significantly generates cynicism against the system, thereby denting the efficacy of the judicial system meant for creating a peaceful society. Corruption stands at no lesser footing than the conventional bodily crimes. Rather, corruption severely injures the body of the entire society.' The judge further mooted for weeding corruption saying, 'Victims of such crimes are not just the Kalu's of the society, but all of us– the entire society. Therefore, the societal approach to corruption should be of not just zero tolerance but absolute intolerance.' The court also shot down Kumar's contention that the case did not fall within the ambit of Prevention of Corruption Act saying, 'When it comes to police officials indulging in corruption, it would be too simplistic to think that the police official, who is well experienced having been part of many such raids, would so gullibly accept the phenolphthalein coated currency notes in hand. The argument that the offence alleged is extortion, not an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, fails to convince.'

CM assures swift resolution of public grievances
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday interacted with over 60 people from across the state during a Janata Darshan on Monday and assured them that their complaints would be addressed at the earliest. "The CM assured everyone that they should return home without any worry as their problems will be resolved," said a govt spokesperson. Yogi received complaints related to police, revenue, medical aid, employment, education, housing, land disputes and family matters. He met each complainant and handed over their applications to concerned officials, directing them to ensure timely and satisfactory redressal of the grievances.

Akbarnagar to Basant Kunj: Lko dist admn meets residents to help create jobs
The district administration held a small public meeting at the Basant Kunj Housing Scheme on Monday. The meeting focused on connecting residents displaced from former Akbarnagar to Basant Kunj, with government schemes, addressing livelihood concerns, and resolving basic civic issues. Chairing the meeting, divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob directed concerned departments to conduct a fresh survey through District Urban Development Authority (DUDA) to identify eligible street vendors and link them to the PM Svanidhi scheme. These vendors will be provided designated vending zones for livelihood support. Simultaneously, skilled workers will be registered under the labour department, and employment camps will be organised. She emphasised that displaced residents should be prioritised in schemes like PM Mudra, PM Vishwakarma, and self-employment programmes. Training sessions will be provided in trades such as electrician, mechanic, plumber, tailor, mobile repair, solar technician, gym trainer, and carpenter to enhance employability. Officials were instructed to prepare a comprehensive employment plan in coordination with all departments. During the Chaupal, residents flagged several civic issues, including irregular water supply, clogged chambers, poor sanitation, and irregular waste collection. Responding to these complaints, Jacob ordered immediate redressal and instructed the LMC to set up a dedicated control room at the site to monitor basic services. Officials informed that 17 individuals have already benefited from the CM Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme, and 90 labour cards have been issued. The Commissioner instructed that registered workers should be provided employment in construction or as security personnel. In terms of infrastructure, she directed the city transport department to establish an electric vehicle charging station in Basant Kunj. Additionally, shops built under the housing scheme will be allotted to self-help groups by DUDA to promote local commerce and reduce the need for residents to travel for basic goods. To ensure access to official documents, a three-day camp will be organised for the issuance of income certificates, caste certificates, Aadhaar cards, and ration cards.
