This year, Ganesh Chaturthi begins on August 27 and will culminate on
Anantha Chaturdashi
. Also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayak Chavithi, the festival marks the worship of
Lord Ganesha
as the god of new beginnings and remover of obstacles. Devotees across India and abroad celebrate his wisdom and intelligence with decorated homes and pandals, prayers, music, and vibrant processions.
Earlier in July, the Maharashtra government declared the public
Ganeshotsav
as the "
Maharashtra State Festival
." The announcement was made in the Legislative Assembly by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, who said the tradition of public Ganeshotsav was started in Maharashtra in 1893 by Lokmanya Tilak.
Live Events
"This festival is deeply rooted in social, national, freedom, self-respect, and linguistic pride. It continues in the same spirit today. It is a matter of pride and honour for Maharashtra," Shelar had told the Assembly.
He emphasised that the Government of Maharashtra is committed to preserving and promoting the cultural significance and global presence of this festival. Shelar also highlighted that certain individuals, for various reasons, have attempted to challenge the traditional public celebration of Ganeshotsav in different courts. However, the Mahayuti government--under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Dada Pawar--has acted swiftly to overcome all such restrictions and legal hurdles.

Why you should always put a shoe in your hotel safe: A travel hack explained
When travelling, it's easy to forget valuables in hotel rooms, especially in unfamiliar surroundings. A clever hack shared by flight attendants is to always leave one shoe in the hotel safe along with your important items. This simple trick works because you won't want to leave the room wearing only one shoe, prompting you to check the safe before you go. It acts as a natural reminder to collect passports, wallets, or electronics stored inside. This small but effective habit can help prevent the stress and hassle of leaving belongings behind during your travels. A flight attendant named Esther, who has spent countless nights in hotels due to her job, shared a clever travel tip in a TikTok video aimed at frequent hotel guests. In the video, she highlights a simple yet often overlooked step that every traveler should do immediately upon entering a hotel room. While most people remember to secure valuables like passports, cash, and credit cards in the room safe, many forget to retrieve these items when checking out. How placing a shoe in hotel safe protects your valuables The core idea is straightforward: place one of your shoes inside the hotel safe along with your valuables. Because no one wants to leave a hotel room wearing just one shoe, this acts as a natural prompt to remind you to check the safe before you leave. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks This visual and physical cue ensures that you won't accidentally forget items like passports, wallets, or electronics stored inside. By keeping a shoe in the safe, you force yourself to pause and think before checking out. It's an easy psychological nudge that makes it far less likely you'll leave behind important belongings. This simple practice can save you from potentially costly and stressful situations. What to put in the safe besides a shoe While a shoe is the most common and practical item used for this trick, any item you would never want to forget works just as well. Some travellers choose to leave a jacket, headphones, or even a charging cable in the safe to trigger their memory. The key is to use something personal and essential, something that naturally encourages you to make a final check before leaving the room. Extra travel tips from flight attendants Flight attendants are often treasure troves of travel wisdom, sharing practical tips that go beyond the shoe trick. For example, some recommend using shower caps to cover the soles of shoes or protect remote controls from germs during your stay. Others suggest keeping a USB charging cable handy for charging devices via the hotel TV when power outlets are limited or incompatible. These little hacks make hotel stays more comfortable and convenient, while also helping travellers stay organised and safe. Why this small habit makes a big difference Travel can be hectic, with packing, airport procedures, and time pressures all working against you. By adopting the simple habit of leaving a shoe, or another essential item, in the hotel safe, you add a layer of security that is both easy to follow and highly effective. This small step reduces the chances of accidentally leaving behind valuables, ensuring a smoother, less stressful end to your stay.

Jeon Hyun-moo reveals hanok estates enhancing visuals in Jun Ji-hyun and Song Joong-ki K-dramas and films
Filming a drama in a Hanok Aired on August 19, 2025, 'Reasonable Architecture - Space Traveler' special commemorated Korea's 80th liberation anniversary by exploring Seoul's Bukchon Hanok Village . With architect Yoo Hyun-jun absent, broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo took the helm, admitting he underwent rigorous preparation for the role. The episode illuminated how Bukchon endured Japanese urban expansion pressures during the colonial period from 1910 to 1945. Actor Kim Jae-won provided context, stating that Bukchon developed in the late 1920s as Japanese settlements expanded northward from Namchon, home to the Government-General and military bases. Architect Jeong Se-gwon countered this by constructing over 6,000 hanok in areas like Ikseon-dong and Gye-dong, famously declaring, "Ensure no Japanese foothold on Jongno land." This narrative addressed the 'what' of preserving hanok architecture , 'who' involving figures like Jeong, 'when' and 'where' in colonial-era northern Seoul, 'why' to combat cultural erasure, and 'how' through targeted urban development. According to National Museum of Korea records, Bukchon today features around 900 hanok, seamlessly integrating tradition with modern tourism. Exclusive glimpses into timeless interiors The program unveiled a well-preserved Gahoe-dong hanok for the first time on broadcast, with Jeon describing its interior as a serene, otherworldly haven contrasting the bustling tourist exterior. Hong Jin-kyung admired the open courtyard, likening it to owning a personal expanse of sky proportional to the property size. Paik Jong-won, drawing on his photography expertise, captured the picturesque scenes, highlighting hanok elements such as ondol underfloor heating and giwa tiled roofs that adapt ingeniously to Korea's varied seasons, similar to the environmental harmony seen in Indian haveli courtyards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Undo Insights from architectural journals note that these Gahoe-dong hanok represent early 20th-century fusions of subtle Western influences with core Korean aesthetics. Jaw-dropping estates from screen fame and modern shifts Jeon introduced a breathtaking 744-pyeong (approximately 2,458 square meters) hanok estate, cautioning it might leave viewers jaw-dropped, renowned for its roles in enhancing visual aesthetics in famous K-dramas and films. This location boosted cinematic beauty in 'Assassination' (2015) as Jun Ji-hyun 's character Mitsuko's home, in 'Reborn Rich' (2022) as the lavish residence for Lee Sung-min and Song Joong-ki 's characters, and in 'Jung Nyeon' through key scenes, where the hanok's elegant architecture and historical ambiance amplified the storytelling's emotional depth and visual allure. Historically the residence of surgeon Baek In-je, founder of Paik Hospital, it epitomized elite colonial-era living in Gyeongseong (modern Seoul), earning the nickname 'You and Village' for its vast, village-like grandeur. The cast explored traces of upper-class life; Mimi detected a "rich aura" from the entrance, Paik marveled at the unique spatial design, and Yoo labeled it a symbol of wealth. Per Cultural Heritage Administration data, such mansions housed about 10% of Seoul's elites in the 1930s, preserving artifacts that reflect pre-modern luxury. The tour concluded at a hybrid hanok-yangok space, now a showroom and cafe, exemplifying hanok's adaptable transformations, with input from architect Choi Wook, known for designs inspired by the national treasure 'Pensive Bodhisattva' statue. About Hanok: Hanok are traditional Korean houses known for their curved tiled roofs, wooden frameworks, and natural harmony, incorporating features like ondol heating for warmth and open courtyards for ventilation, embodying sustainable living principles passed down through centuries.
