Middle East smartphone shipments jump 15% in Q2 2025: Canalys

The region's growth outpaced all others globally, Canalys research showed. Samsung led the market with 4.5 million units shipped, up 39 per cent from a year earlier, helped by demand for its Galaxy A series 4G models and flagship S25 series. Read: HONOR nearly doubled its shipments to 1.3 million units, boosted by retail expansion in the Gulf, AI-focused products and aggressive promotions. Xiaomi shipped 2.3 million units, flat on the year, while TRANSSION grew 13 per cent to 2 million units. Apple was steady at 1.1 million units. Shipments by other brands fell 19 per cent to 1.9 million units. RTA Rolls Out Academic Scholarship Programme for the academic year 25–26
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolls out the Academic Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2025–2026. The Programme aims at investing in national talent and preparing qualified cadres to meet RTA's future needs. This year, 20 candidates have been selected to study within the United Arab Emirates as part of RTA's commitment to nurturing young talent and equipping them with knowledge and skills on a par with the highest international standards. The programme forms part of RTA's strategy to support national talent and achieve Emiratisation objectives by meeting its future needs across majors and strategic projects. The programme includes familiarising students with career pathways after graduation and enabling them to explore the various fields of work available at RTA and how they can contribute to them. Scholarship recipients will study at a select group of leading universities in the UAE, including the American University of Sharjah, University of Sharjah, University of Dubai, Zayed University, and the Higher Colleges of Technology. Study fields include Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Intelligent Systems Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems and Business Analytics, Mechatronics, Robotics, and other vital fields that support RTA's operational and service plans. The Academic Scholarship Programme is one of RTA's distinguished annual initiatives, with between 10 and 20 students from targeted categories sponsored each year. Dubai Municipality conducts 25,000 field inspections
Dubai Municipality has announced significant achievements in regulating and monitoring construction activities during the first half of 2025, completing more than 25,000 field inspections — a 36% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The inspections covered over 18,800 buildings under construction, with a total built-up area exceeding 36 million square metres, marking an 11% increase from last year and reflecting continued growth in new projects across the emirate. These results highlight Dubai Municipality's comprehensive regulatory strategy, ensuring safety and quality throughout all stages of construction. The approach supports Dubai's vision to be the world's smartest and most sustainable city in the construction sector, while reinforcing the emirate's reputation as an investment-friendly hub with advanced infrastructure and flexible, integrated regulations. During the first half of the year, compliance rates reached 96%, underscoring the Municipality's ongoing efforts to safeguard building standards and maintain sustainable urban planning practices. In the same period, 1,669 building completion certificates were issued — up 30% from 2024 — including 1,484 villas, 74 multi-storey buildings, and 60 industrial facilities, adding around 2 million square metres of new residential, commercial, and industrial space to Dubai. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, said: 'Dubai Municipality places great emphasis on precise engineering oversight of construction activities, considering it a key tool to regulate the sector and elevate its standards, in line with our unwavering commitment to developing it into the world's smartest and most sustainable. Innovation and sustainability in construction The Municipality oversaw the use of more than 1.5 million cubic metres of green concrete, ensuring compliance with environmental standards. Additionally, 16.4 million cubic metres of soil were recycled and transported — the equivalent of filling approximately 6,500 Olympic-size swimming pools. The Municipality issued 4,222 permits for sand transport and supply, ensuring optimal resource use, and approved over 1,126 requests for free sand to support Emirati citizens building private villas. These initiatives form part of Dubai's broader vision for an innovative and sustainable construction sector, streamlining building procedures, enhancing governance, and ensuring legislative and regulatory flexibility — making the emirate a preferred destination for investment in this vital industry.
