Diesel fuel stolen from Ottawa Valley fire department
An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) patch is seen in Ottawa, on Sept. 29, 2024. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Spencer Colby Diesel fuel has been stolen from the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department, leaving the service in the Ottawa Valley with empty fuel tanks that would keep its trucks moving. The theft from the Bonnechere Valley Township fire department was reported to police on June 3. The OPP says that 'sometime in the last month,' diesel fuel was stolen from an outdoor storage tank at the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department building on Janet Road. No other information has been released. The Bonnechere Valley Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post that it was aware of a theft of diesel fuel from its Foymount Hall. 'The tank we use to fuel our trucks that respond to emergencies in our township has been emptied,' the department said. 'Police have been contacted. To say we're disappointed is an understatement.' Anyone with information is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Bonnechere Valley is located 130 kilometres west of Ottawa, near Cobden.

Fatal shooting on Samson Cree Nation ruled homicide
The death of a person on Samson Cree Nation has been ruled a homicide. Maskwacis RCMP say a shooting at a home on the nation was reported around 5:23 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found the body of 20-year-old Travis Jason Crier, who police say also went by Raven. Samson Cree Nation, located south of Edmonton, is one of the Four Nations of Maskwacîs. 'This is another tragic and senseless loss of a Four Nations community member. There is a direct relationship between this death and illegal firearms in Maskwacis. The community is saying it, we are saying it, and our leaders are saying it: Enough is enough,' Insp. Richard McKay, detachment commander of Maskwacis RCMP, said in a statement.
