MoS Margherita meets US Secretary of State in Malaysia

Earlier in the day, Margherita met the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn, discussing wide-ranging bilateral relations, including heritage conservation and development partnership.
MoS Margherita expressed gratitude to Cambodia for its support in India's fight against terrorism.

Discussed our multifaceted bilateral relations ranging from heritage conservation to development partnership. Also discussed my recent visit to Cambodia during which I had a number of productive engagements. Thanked Cambodia for its support in India's fight against terrorism,' Margherita said in a post on X.
On Thursday, Margherita held a meeting with the Secretary General of ASEAN, Kao Kim Hourn, on the margins of the ASEAN-India FMM in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The MoS appreciated Hourn's personal commitment as the head of the ASEAN Secretariat in facilitating the implementation of decisions of leaders towards strengthening India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Margherita held separate meetings with Bui Thanh Son, Foreign Minister of Vietnam, and Sugiono, Foreign Minister of Indonesia, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference with India in Kuala Lumpur.
Furthermore, the MoS met the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of ASEAN-India FMM. The leaders acknowledged the long-standing friendship and 75 years of diplomatic relationship between India and the Philippines, and discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation. Margherita thanked the Philippines for its solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism.
Earlier on Thursday, Margherita co-chaired the ASEAN-India FMM in Kuala Lumpur, during which the adoption of the new 2026-2030 ASEAN-India Plan of Action (POA) was also announced.
MoS Margherita, as India's country coordinator, co-chaired the meeting with Theresa P. Lazaro, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines.
"Adopted a new ASEAN-India Plan of Action for the year 2026-2030 with an aim to further expanding our cooperation and strengthening comprehensive strategic partnership. As we celebrate ASEAN-India Year of Tourism this year, we discussed ways and means for enhancing people-to-people relations further," Margherita said in a post on X.
The MoS arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night to participate in the ASEAN-India FMM at the invitation of the current ASEAN Chair, Malaysia.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the motion to remove Justice Yashwant Verma, who remains in trouble after burnt wads of cash were recovered from his residence following a fire incident, will be moved in Lok Sabha first, as per the rules. He said that the removal of Justice Verma should be a joint decision. "The motion for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma will be raised in the Lok Sabha, and then subsequently, it will be concurred by the Rajya Sabha. All political parties have agreed that the removal of Justice Yashwant Verma has to be a joint call," Rijiju told reporters here. He emphasised that initiating the impeachment process of Justice Verma was a collective responsibility of the Parliament, not just the government alone. "We have been making efforts in relation to the matter of Justice Yashwant Verma. We have clearly stated that it is not only the government's efforts, but the entire Parliament is responsible for addressing the issue of corruption in the judiciary and removing judges from the Supreme Court or High Court. We should not be divided on this issue," the Union Minister said. The centre is working to form a committee to probe allegations levelled against Justice Yashwant Verma, government sources said on July 23. This comes after Rijiju stated that signatures of over 100 MPs have been collected for the impeachment process against Justice Verma, who is currently under scrutiny following the discovery of burnt cash at his residence. "The signature (collection) is underway, and it has crossed 100 already," Rijiju said while responding to a question about the status of the requisite signatures of MPs for the impeachment exercise against Justice Verma. When asked about whether the Parliament will take up the issue in this monsoon session scheduled to start on July 21, the Union Minister had said, "In the Justice Varma case, the process will be undertaken together by all parties. This is not the move by the government alone." "I can't comment on any business in terms of priority until and unless the matter is passed by the BAC (Business Advisory Committee) with the approval of the chair. It is difficult to make an announcement outside," he added. On July 21, Members of Parliament submitted a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to remove High Court Justice Yashwant Varma in connection with the cash discovery row. A total of 145 Lok Sabha members signed the impeachment motion against Justice Varma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the from various parties, including the Congress, TDP, JDU, JDS, Jan Sena Party, AGP, SS (Shinde), LJSP, SKP, and CPM, signed the memorandum. Notable signatories include MPs Anurag Singh Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, PP Chaudhary, Supriya Sule, KC Venugopal, and others. Earlier, the sources had informed about the formation of a committee that is likely to include a judge of the Supreme Court, a chief justice from any of the High Courts and a distinguished jurist. The notices for the removal of Justice Varma were given on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju takes oath as Goa Governor
Former Union Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju was sworn in as the Governor of Goa on Saturday (July 26, 2025), succeeding P.S. Sreedharan Pillai. Mr. Raju was administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan by Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries attended the event. Mr. Raju, 74, said he would follow the Constitution of India while serving the people. 'We all work as a team, and I am very delighted that I am associated with Goans,' he said. 'Though I don't understand the local language and this is my first assignment in this (gubernatorial) office, I have had a long innings in the political set-up. I was a seven-time legislator in Andhra Pradesh before it was bifurcated into two states,' he said. Referring to his political career, Mr. Raju said he had a short tenure in Parliament. 'I have been in and out as a minister in the government and also sat in the opposition. I have wide experience,' the Governor added. A veteran Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from Andhra Pradesh, Raju served as the Civil Aviation Minister between May 27, 2014 and March 10, 2018. He has also held ministerial posts in the Andhra Pradesh government. Later, addressing reporters, Mr. Raju said he was looking forward to working with the people of Goa. 'I am looking forward to working for you, or rather, I should say 'working with you. 'For' is a mind terminology, but (I prefer to say) 'with you' because if people don't work with the government, democracy suffers. We don't want that situation. We want everyone to work unitedly,' he added. He appealed to people to take India forward by working together. 'India will be second to none in the world'. Mr. Pillai had completed four years in the gubernatorial position in Goa. He was accorded a farewell on Thursday (July 24, 2025).

Congress wants to give share of BC quota to muslims: Kishan
HYDERABAD: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday alleged that the Congress was attempting to extend reservations to Muslims under the guise of BC quotas, which he described as unjust to the OBCs. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Kishan accused the Congress of proposing a 10% reservation for Muslims under the BC category. 'This move is an expansion of the earlier 4% BC-E quota implemented by the Congress, which was later raised to 6% and is now being proposed at 10%,' the Union minister said, stressing that the BJP remained opposed to religion-based reservations. Kishan also referred to the previous BRS regime's implementation of 34% reservation for BCs, which included 10% for Muslims. He said this had led to an unfair outcome in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, with the AIMIM benefiting from the arrangement. He stated that the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, had introduced a 10% reservation under the Economically Backward Class (EBC) category, from which Muslims could also benefit. However, he said the proposal of the Congress government in Telangana to add a further 10% under the BC quota was 'unacceptable'. Kishan also criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his remarks on 'converted BCs' and questioned whether the CM would similarly refer to the Lambada community, which was included under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in 1972, as 'converted STs'. He added that several castes were added to the BC list in 1994 during the Congress regime based on the Mandal Commission, at a time when Narendra Modi was not even an MLA. The Union minister also claimed that the Congress had never appointed a BC leader as chief minister and challenged the party's commitment to BC welfare. 'If Revanth Reddy truly cares about the BC community, he should make way for a BC as chief minister,' Kishan stated, adding that the BJP had promoted a BC leader to the post of prime minister. Kishan further claimed that Congress would not win elections even if they were held immediately and predicted the party would lose the states it currently governs. He said Rahul Gandhi, who aspired to become prime minister, had already been rejected thrice.
