David Beckham set to receive knighthood in King Charles III's birthday honours
Football icon and philanthropist David Beckham is expected to finally receive a knighthood next week as part of King Charles III's birthday celebrations, according to The Sun. The 50-year-old former England captain, who has long been in the running for the honour, will reportedly be named in the monarch's birthday honours list, elevating him to 'Sir David Beckham.' His wife, Victoria Beckham—fashion mogul and former Spice Girl—would accordingly be styled 'Lady Beckham'.
Beckham's knighthood has been a long time coming. He was first nominated in 2011, following a glittering football career that included 115 appearances for England and successful stints at top clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. He retired from football in 2013.
Beyond the field, Beckham has built a strong reputation for his charitable work, particularly in efforts aimed at supporting underprivileged children. Since 2005, he has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In 2015, the organisation launched The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to mark ten years of collaboration, focusing on protecting children in danger and supporting their rights globally.

Most recently, Beckham became an ambassador for The King's Foundation in 2024. The foundation, which reflects King Charles's long-standing passion for the environment and youth education, is dedicated to helping young people develop a deeper connection with nature. Beckham, who has taken a personal interest in environmental causes, especially beekeeping on his estate in the Cotswolds, has spoken about his love of nature in the family's Netflix documentary.
Though the path to knighthood hasn't been without controversy. BBC Sport recalled a 2017 leak of private emails in which Beckham appeared to express frustration with the honours process. His representatives at the time clarified the messages were 'hacked,' 'doctored,' and taken out of context.
Beckham has already been honoured once by the monarchy, having received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 2003 for services to football. But this potential knighthood goes beyond sport, recognising his continued contributions to British society and his global influence.
In addition to his philanthropic and environmental efforts, Beckham remains active in football, serving as co-owner of Inter Miami CF in the United States and part-owner of Salford City in League Two.
The official honours list is expected to be released next week.

Sonali Bendre recalls visiting Babulnath Temple and Siddhivinayak Temple with Coldplay's Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson: ‘She's such a lovely person'
When British singer Chris Martin of Coldplay visited India earlier this year, it wasn't just his music that stole hearts. Alongside Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson , the duo surprised fans by exploring the spiritual side of Mumbai. They were joined by Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre and 'Swades' star Gayatri Oberoi during their quiet yet meaningful visit to some of the city's most iconic temples. Before Coldplay's big concerts at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18 and 19, Chris and Dakota paid a special visit to the Babulnath Temple. Photos and videos of the couple offering prayers along with Sonali and Gayatri quickly went viral, showing them soaking in the spiritual vibe. Sonali recalls taking Dakota and Chris to Mumbai's famous temples In her interview with ANI, Sonali Bendre fondly remembered the moment she was asked to join the group on their spiritual journey. She said, "She's (Dakota) such a lovely person. It was my yoga teacher who told me that, you know what, somebody is coming in and they want to be taken to a few temples. Will you do this? I'm like, okay, who is it? And that's how I get to know. So I think Chris and her (Dakota) wanted to have a temple experience. And I think that's an experience everybody should have at some point. 'India, Australia And England Carrying Load Of Test Cricket': Marnus Labuschagne
Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne feels that the World Test Championship (WTC) final against "well-balanced" South Africa at Lord's is going to be another "great match". Australia last faced South Africa in a Test series in 2022-23, with the hosts running out 2-0 winners Down Under. 'South Africa have been a very good team in this cycle, on paper it's a well-balanced side and they have some really nice players,' Labuschagne told ICC. 'It will be a good challenge for us, and we are going to have to be on our game. Playing at Lord's is always special with the history and what is involved with playing there. It's going to be an awesome week and another great match," he added. Labuschagne believes Test cricket is in a "great place" ahead of the WTC summit clash as his Australian side bid to defend their crown. The 30-year-old was part of the XI which defeated India by 209 runs at The Oval in 2023 to lift the trophy for the first time. They now take on South Africa, the country of Labuschagne's birth, at the conclusion of the third edition of a competition the batter feels has helped reinvigorate the game's oldest format. 'It is an exciting tournament. It means every Test you play has something on it, it brings all the countries into play, and anyone can make the final. 'It's exciting to play in, you're playing for a trophy at the end of a two-year cycle. I think it has worked great. Two years ago, when we beat India, it was awesome," he said. 'I'm looking at it from a player's perspective and it looks like the game is in a great place. 'Every time Test cricket is on, people want to watch it. India, Australia and England are probably carrying a bit of the load of Test cricket, but we really want to see all the countries keep producing great players and being part of upholding such an amazing tradition of Test cricket.' Labuschagne has been a mainstay in Australia's top order since making history as Test cricket's first-ever concussion substitute at Lord's during the 2019 Ashes — the same venue as the upcoming final. After his first 14 Tests, Labuschagne boasted an impressive average of 63.43 and held the title of the world's top-ranked Test batter for six months from December 2021. However, his form has dipped in the current WTC cycle, where he averages just 28.33 with only one century to his name. Despite the overall dip, he made key contributions during the home series against India, scoring 64 in Adelaide and 70 and 72 in Melbourne. Labuschagne has also been preparing for the WTC final by spending time in British conditions with Glamorgan, a county side that has become something of a second home for him. 'I love playing with the guys here, they are close friends, and I love the environment at the club,' he said. 'The benefit of having a relationship with the club for six years is that you have the perks of being able to call the director of cricket and say: 'this is what it looks like, is there a chance we can line this up'. 'Without that relationship, there might be some hesitancy, or you might not get someone in for two games. But that's the benefit of the long-term commitment I have shown over the last six years.'
