Katy Perry confesses that she thought she was ‘the most hated person' on the internet
Katy Perry has revealed that she does pay attention to the fierce criticism she's faced on social media in recent months.
Perry has become somewhat of a laughing stock online since the release of her latest album, 143, failed spectacularly on the charts alongside the critically derided lead single Woman's World.
The backlash then intensified due to her bizarre antics surrounding her trip to space that culminated in the infamous picture of her kissing the ground after less than a handful of minutes in the air.
During the latest show of her Lifetimes Tour in Chicago, Perry seemingly addressed the all the controversy that she appears to be a magnet for in recent months.
'I thought I was the most hated person on the internet … but I think that's false,' she said, referencing the crowd's rapturous applause.
It's not the first time Perry had publicly discussed the hate she has received from trolls on social media.
Describing herself as a 'human piñata' and the internet as 'a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed' people, Perry recently posted a message on Instagram in response to fans who had booked a celebratory billboard for her.
'Please know I am OK, I have done a lot [of] work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,' she wrote. 'My therapist said something years ago that has been a gamechanger, 'no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don't already believe about yourself' and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it's an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it. When the 'online' world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.'
While other legs of Perry's tour have been plagued by reports of poor ticket sales (something that's certainly not affecting her alone – even Beyonce is struggling to sell out her Cowboy Carter stadium tour), Perry's Aussie visit has been a popular seller, with 15 near-sold-out dates across five Australian cities.

Kylie Jenner is 'learning to keep personal life private'
Kylie Jenner is "learning" to keep her personal life private and has found a "balance" with how much she shares with fans. 'The Kardashians' star grew up in the spotlight as a regular on her family's reality show 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' and has almost 400 million followers on Instagram, but she's been keeping some aspects of her life - including her romance with actor Timothee Chalamet - quiet and she thinks she's finally found the right "balance". She told Dazed magazine: " I think I've found a good balance with sharing the things that I want to share. Keeping parts of my personal life private. I'm just learning as I go, I think." Kylie went on to admit she's never truly experienced total privacy because she can barely remember a time before being famous. She added: "I don't really remember a time when that wasn't the case for me. It would have probably been hard for me if I didn't have a family who understood completely what I was going through." The reality star previously explained her reluctance to talk about her boyfriend during an interview with the New York Times newspaper last year. When she was asked if her changing fashion sense was linked to a certain new person in her life, she said: "I don't know how I feel about that. I just don't want to talk about personal things." Kylie also previously admitted she finds it "hard to keep up with the internet" and she actually enjoys being offline these days. The star - who is mother to two kids Stormi and Aire with her ex-partner Travis Scott - told the November 2024 issue of ELLE magazine: "My friends and I laugh because it's hard to keep up with the internet now. It's exhausting. "When I was posting 24/7 - waking up, what I'm eating for breakfast, what I'm wearing for the day, the colour of my nails, what car I'm driving, where I'm driving to - I didn't have an intense schedule. I wasn't working as much; I didn't have kids and just had more time. "If you're not posting three times a day on TikTok, you fall behind."
