Inside Bezos and Sanchez's multimillion-dollar wedding: Venice venues, VIP guests and star power
Here are some facts and figures about what has been dubbed the 'Wedding of the Century'.
Cost of the wedding
The wedding celebrations for around 200-250 guests are expected to cost €40 million to €48 million (RM198 million to RM236 million), Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto region, which includes Venice, told reporters on Tuesday.
Italy's tourism ministry said yesterday it carried out a study estimating the overall economic impact of the wedding at €957 million, including an 896 million euro benefit from 'media visibility'.
The rest would come from direct or indirect spending related to the event, such as €28.4 million for hotel and location expenses and €17.6 million for transportation and other service expenses.

Celebrations began on Thursday evening in the cloisters of Madonna dell'Orto, a medieval church in the central district of Cannaregio that hosts masterpieces by 16th century painter Tintoretto.
On Friday, the couple were due to exchange rings on the small island of San Giorgio, opposite St Mark's Square, accompanied by singing from Matteo Bocelli, son of the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. The main party is due on Saturday at the Arsenale, a former shipyard where vessels were built for the Venetian Republic's maritime empire. Several media outlets are reporting there will be performances by Lady Gaga and Elton John.

Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola in Rome hospital for planned surgery, not emergency, says rep
LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 — Francis Ford Coppola, the acclaimed American director of 'The Godfather' movies and 'Apocalypse Now,' underwent a non-emergency medical procedure by appointment on Tuesday at a hospital in Rome and is doing fine, according to a US-based representative. 'Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr Andrea Natale, his doctor of over 30 years, and is resting nicely,' the representative said in response to Italian media reports that the director was hospitalised. 'All is well.' The 86-year-old filmmaker was admitted to the Policlinico Tor Vergata, a public hospital in the Italian capital, news agency ANSA reported. The US based representative declined to give any details about the nature of Coppola's medical procedure, but said: 'There was not an emergency. He went to the hospital in a car.' The representative specifically disputed as 'not true' a report from the Italian website that Coppola had suffered atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heartbeat, before entering the operating room for what was to have been a long-planned surgical procedure. A spokesperson for the hospital did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. Coppola was in Italy to promote his latest movie, the sci-fi epic 'Megalopolis,' a US$120 million self-funded production about a visionary architect's quest to transform a fictional future version of New York City called New Rome into a utopian community. The film, which has drawn mixed reviews and struggled at the box office following its 2024 debut at the Cannes Film Festival, was reported to have received a special screening at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. The Italian-American director, who has won five Academy Awards, three of four of them for his work on the first two films in 'The Godfather' trilogy, widely considered by cinema buffs to rank among the greatest movies of all time. — Reuters

Amazon to cut Wondery staff, reorganise audio business
Existing Wondery series will either be moved under Amazon's Audible banner or become part of the company's new 'creator services' team. — Bloomberg NEW YORK: Inc is breaking up the operations of its Wondery podcast network as part of a broad reorganisation of the business. About 110 people will lose their jobs because of the move, according to a person familiar with the plans. In addition, Wondery chief executive officer Jen Sargent will exit the company, according to a memo to staff viewed by Bloomberg News. Existing Wondery series will either be moved under Amazon's Audible banner or become part of the company's new 'creator services' team, which will become home to personality-driven shows, including Jason and Travis Kelce's podcast. The Wondery brand will still exist on some of these creator services-run shows. The moves are an acknowledgement that Amazon's big push into podcasts hasn't worked out as planned. Despite signing up some of the biggest names in the business, the online retailer is shifting strategies to compete better with platforms like Spotify Technology SA and Alphabet Inc's YouTube as podcasts shift to video formats from audio-only. 'The podcast landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years,' Steve Boom, vice-president of audio, Twitch and games, wrote in the memo. 'The rise of video has also blurred the lines on what it means to be a podcast creator.' The Wondery+ team will now report into Audible, the memo stated. Wondery's narrative-driven studio, which creates shows including the Dr Death series, will merge with Audible, and Wondery chief content officer Marshall Lewy will join Audible in a new role, according to the memo. Meanwhile, Wondery's tentpole shows with major talent, such as Dax Shepard, will start working with the creator services team, a move designed in part to do a better job of selling large sponsorships and integrations across the Amazon platform. The company has created a blueprint of sorts with LeBron James, who hosts a podcast, Mind the Game, and has worked as a Prime Day spokesperson, a role in which he promoted his line of male-grooming products. — Bloomberg
