Wizz Air suspends several routes from the UAE – here's why

Time Out Dubai5 days ago
If you're planning a summer escape from low-cost airline Wizz Air, there are some major updates you need to know before you book.
The budget carrier is making big changes to its network – and several routes out of the UAE capital are being grounded.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has officially halted ticket sales to Belgrade and Sarajevo, with final flights departing on July 19 and August 31, respectively.
These are just two of a number of routes seeing cuts or suspensions as part of a wider operational shake-up.
While some of these cuts are temporary, others may be permanent – and Wizz Air hasn't ruled out additional changes.
The Airbus A321neo fleet, which services many of the routes, is facing maintenance challenges, particularly in hot and dusty regions like the Middle East.
Other affected routes include:
Varna – last flight July 14
Tirana – last flight July 20
Kutaisi – last flight July 29
Krakow – paused from July 29 to September 19
Budapest – paused until September 1
Vienna – paused until September 21
Katowice – paused until October 26
Astana & Samarkand – paused until November 1
Sofia and Cluj – already discontinued

The airline, which has been the sole operator between Abu Dhabi and both Belgrade and Sarajevo, says the shake-up is partly due to ongoing engine inspection issues.
Wizz Air has launched a 24-hour hotline for impacted travellers (+361 677 7530), especially those who booked through third-party sites, which may not have shared passenger contact info with the airline.
If your outbound flight is still running but your return leg is cancelled, you may still qualify for a full refund.
Launched in 2021, the Abu Dhabi to Belgrade and Sarajevo services were among Wizz Air's key Europe-facing routes, with the Belgrade leg alone flying over 82,000 passengers last year.
So if you've got travel plans with Wizz Air this summer, double-check your itinerary – and maybe keep a Plan B on standby.
A Wizz Air Abu Dhabi spokesman said: 'In the last few days, we have taken several steps to reach and inform the passengers concerned, but more than two-thirds of them did not book their tickets directly with the airline (but through an online travel agency).
'Therefore, the contact details of these passengers are not available to Wizz Air, as these online ticketing portals do not forward the contact details of the passengers to the airlines.
'If your outbound flight is operating as scheduled, but your return flight (inbound) is cancelled, you may request a full refund for your outbound flight by contacting our regular call centre.'
There's an official Wizz Air 24-hour hotline for those affected by UAE flight cancellations at +3616777530 (international roaming charges apply for the Hungary-based number).

Kylie Jenner fans think beau Timothee Chalamet is 'secretly' with her on yacht vacation in Greece

Kylie Jenner fans think her A Complete Unknown actor beau Timothee Chalamet is secretly with her on yacht vacation in Greece. That is because a man in black briefs was spotted resting on a seashore in one of her latest Instagram posts shared on Tuesday. 'That guy on the shore is Timothee,' said one fan on X while another piped up: 'He is secretly with her in Greece, I feel it in my bones.' The couple were last photographed together in St Tropez in the south of France on July 5. On the luxury trip Jenner was modeling a white, leopard print and polka dot swimsuit from her Frankies Bikinis/Khy collaboration while on a very large yacht. Also on the getaway with the 27-year-old reality TV star were her kids Stormi and Aire that she has with rapper ex Travis Scott. And her pal Stassie Karanikolaou, aka as Stassie Baby, was also spied during the European holiday. Rumors of their relationship between Jenner and Chalamet began circulating in April 2023, following the makeup mogul's split from Scott. They were first spotted together publicly in September 2023 at Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour concert. The couple then made their first official public appearance together at the U.S. Open in September 2023. 'Greeeece,' the mom of two captioned her update. Most of the pinup shots were of Kylie in bikinis. In the first image, The Kardashians star wore a tiny yellow and black Chanel string bikini as she sat on her knees on the yacht. Kylie tipped her head to one side in the shot and looked like she was rolling her eyes. In another snap, the reality TV star showered off as she climbed back onto the boat after a swim in the sea. In another photo, Kylie poured herself into a tiny leopard print bikini that highlighted her toned figure. Kylie turned up the heat with a photo of herself leaning against the railing of the yacht in a skin tight, curve hugging white dress. Other photos in the group included a shot of five women's feet in flip flops, a photo of her pink Chanel tote bag and a bunch of nature shots. On the luxury trip Jenner was modeling a white, leopard print and polka dot swimsuit from her Frankies Bikinis/Khy line while in Greece Khloé Kardashian commented on her sister's post: 'Are you ever coming home?' A fan also mentioned seeing her on the yacht, writing, 'We saw your yacht in paxos!!! We drove past on a boat. hope ur having the best time.' A bunch of other fans commented along the lines of 'Oh girl your life is so fun' and 'what a life.' And many others complimented her beauty with comments such as 'How is someone this perfect' and 'sun-kissed beauty ❤️.' Kylie's trip to Greece comes after she introduced her collaboration with Frankie's Bikinis. The new swimwear collaboration is called Cloud Cups by Frankies Bikinis x KHY. 'I've always loved Frankies Bikinis, and I'm so excited to partner with them to create this collection – with incredibly flattering silhouettes in super soft material, these are the perfect pieces for summer,' Kylie told in a statement. 'We've incorporated so many fun prints – from polka dots to leopard – and the styles are so comfortable, it feels like they float on your skin while lifting and sculpting. 'One of my favorite pieces is the Heavenly Satin top – the lace detail is so sweet, and it showcases the vintage aesthetic that this collection is all about.' 'Designing this collection with Kylie felt so natural, like two girls dreaming up their perfect swim drawer,' said Aiello, founder of Frankies Bikinis. 'We wanted each piece to lift, shape, and sculpt while wrapping the body in delicate support.' With six bikini top styles, bottoms that range from classic strings to fuller-coverage, and sun dresses and separates, Frankies Bikinis x KHY offers styles for every aesthetic. Beyond swim, Frankies Bikinis x KHY expands into limited edition mini dresses and easy separates. 'KHY aims to redefine the modern wardrobe by offering edited collections that seamlessly blends luxury with everyday style, spanning a diverse range of categories and styles. 'By collaborating with iconic brands and global designers, we hope that KHY will be a platform that delivers access to incredible fashion for everyone,' the company said in a statement. Frankies Bikinis is a female-led lifestyle brand recognized for its on-trend designs, innovative fabrics, and a commitment to crafting styles that make women feel more confident. Founded by mother-daughter duo Mimi and Francesca Aiello in their Malibu home in 2012, the brand has since grown into an internationally recognized company.

Offshore wind farms to be allowed to apply for contracts before planning consent

Offshore wind farms will be able to apply for energy contracts while they are still waiting for full planning consent, the Government has announced. The plans are part of a raft of reforms launched by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (Desnz) to help the Government reach its ambitious 2030 clean power targets. Energy secretary Ed Miliband said changes to Contracts for Difference (CfD) rules will give developers 'the certainty they need to build in Britain' and invest in more clean energy projects. Auctions for the CfD scheme see developers bid to secure a fixed price contract for what they can charge for the renewable power they generate. This system helps to protect them from market volatility, incentivising investment in new wind and solar farms. Earlier this year, the Government launched a consultation on the flagship CfD scheme, including proposals to remove planning barriers. It has now given the green light to changes to the scheme ahead of the next planned auction process, Allocation Round 7 (AR7), which is due to open in August. Officials have said this will include increasing the length of contracts from 15 years to 20 years for offshore wind, onshore wind and solar projects. It said this is intended to spread out the costs of energy projects over a longer period and potentially reduce costs for consumers, while also improving investors confidence. Changes will also include allowing offshore wind projects to apply for a contract while awaiting full planning consent, in a bid to reduce completion times. The department will also change how budgets are set and published to allow the energy secretary to view developer bids before setting his final budget. Mr Miliband said: 'We need to go further and faster to make Britain a clean energy superpower, end our reliance on volatile global gas prices and make working people better off with homegrown power we control. 'These reforms will give developers the certainty they need to build in Britain, helping deliver more clean power projects and supporting thousands of jobs – all part of the mission to bring bills down for good through our plan for change.'

Liverpool willing to pay £120m for Alexander Isak as they approach Newcastle

Liverpool have made an approach for Alexander Isak at Newcastle United. The Premier League champions would be willing to offer around £120 million but that has prompted the Newcastle hierarchy to reiterate the message that their star player is not available this summer. It remains to be seen whether that deters Liverpool. The suspicion is they would not have made an approach if they had not been encouraged to do so. Liverpool have been looking for a new No 9 for some time and with Darwin Nunez expected to leave this summer, they have made their first move. Should they force Newcastle's hand it will be the second time this summer they have broken the British transfer record, having already signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that could rise to £116 million. Liverpool are also understood to hold an interest in Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike and could bid for the France Under-21 international if the club do not budge on Isak. Newcastle have been braced for this moment for months and are now mobilising to fight off Liverpool's approach. But there is naturally concern the player will have his head turned by Liverpool's enquiry. Senior sources told Telegraph Sport on Tuesday that Newcastle do not want Isak to leave and will do everything in their power to keep him. As things stand, Isak has not indicated he wants to leave but Newcastle are well aware of the fact the leaking of Liverpool's interest into the public domain is designed to unsettle the player. The fact Liverpool's enquiry mentioned a fee well below Newcastle's valuation of the 25-year-old, which is in excess of £150 million, suggests this is just the first play in what could become a protracted transfer saga. The chase for Ekitke further complicates matters. As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Newcastle have been pushing hard to sign the 23-year-old this week and are making steady progress, despite having an initial bid of around £65 million rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt.
