‘Tip A Cop' collects tips for Special Olympics Hawaii for 2025
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The annual 'Tip A Cop' fundraiser will be held starting Feb. 28, where the public can see police officers outside their element.The fundraiser turns cops into waiters all for a good cause.
Tracey Bender from Special Olympics Hawaii said the 34th annual Tip A Cop fundraiser will last through March 2 at participating restaurants, including several California Pizza Kitchen locations.
Guests can visit the Ka Makana Aliʻi, Kahala Mall, Kailua Town Center and Pearlridge Center CPK locations to participate in the experience.
During Tip A Cop, volunteer, off-duty law enforcement officers serve customers by busing tables, filling water cups and bringing out food to raise awareness and funds for our athletes and programs.
Bender said since its inception, Tip A Cop has raised $546,092 for Special Olympics Hawaii.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will help Special Olympics Hawaii continue to provide year-round sports training, competition and health, wellness and leadership programs for over 2,800 athletes statewide with intellectual disabilities, free of charge.
California Pizza Kitchen is also celebrating its 40th anniversary. General Manager of the Kahala Mall California Pizza Kitchen Thomas Kehoe said they are giving away 'Thank You Cards.'

Kehoe said every guest receives a card during their visit, which they'll open on their next trip to reveal a surprise. Every card is a winner, with prizes ranging up to $40,000.

40th annual Torch Run to honor fallen HPD officer, support Special Olympics Hawaii
HONOLULU (KHON2) — This year marks the 40th anniversary of the first Hawaiian Bank Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run, which honors a fallen police officer and helps support a great cause. 12k participants compete in 41st Great Aloha Run 'It's truly an incredible milestone that fills all of us with gratitude and pride,' said Dan Epstein, the President and CEO of Special Olympics Hawaii. 'For 40 years, this event has been more than a tradition – it's been a symbol of unity, hope, and the belief that every person deserves a chance to shine. What started as a small group of officers running in support of our athletes has grown into a powerful, statewide movement involving thousands of law enforcement volunteers from every island. It's a testament to the heart of Hawaii, where people come together, year after year, to stand up for inclusion and show our athletes that they are valued, seen, and celebrated.' According to the Honolulu Police Department, Officer Troy Barboza was shot to death on October 22, 1987, in his home. The culprit was a suspect previously arrested and charged as a result of an undercover narcotic investigation conducted by Officer Barboza. The fundraising helps support the 55th Annual State Summer Games for Special Olympics Hawaii, which runs from June 6 to June 8. Officials said they'll have hundreds of athletes from across the state come together to compete in sports like track and field, swimming, softball and powerlifting. 'The weekend kicks off with softball games and our Opening Ceremonies at Les Murakami Stadium on Friday night, where the Flame of Hope arrives,' Epstein said. 'Saturday is packed with competition and events – including swimming, track, powerlifting, and our Healthy Athletes and Young Athletes programs – and then we end the day with softball finals and our Victory Dance. On Sunday, we wrap up with more competition and Closing Ceremonies at each event site. Wanted: Police search for Cambria County theft suspect
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Stonycreek Township Police Department announced that it is searching for a man facing multiple counts of theft. Robert Bender is wanted by the department on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night. It was also noted that Bender is wanted by Pennsylvania State Parole. Anyone with information on Bender's whereabouts is asked to contact the Stonycreek Township Police Department at 814-266-3112 or their local department. Convicted felon back in jail after deadly shooting near The Battery in Cobb County
A convicted felon is back in jail after police say he shot and killed someone at an apartment complex near The Battery. Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell was at the Cobb County Jail to learn more about what led to the shooting. Police said a fight between Samir Bennett and Micah Bender on May 2 went from an argument to a deadly shooting at Westminster Square Apartments. It's unclear what Bennett and Bender were arguing about, but some families told Newell it's an uncommon crime for their neighborhood. Court documents show Bennett allegedly fired multiple shots at Bender, leading to this death. Investigators say Bennett was wanted on other crimes at the time of the murder. 'I thought I heard gunshots but I kind of disregarded it,' one neighbor said. 'It stopped and then you heard rapid gunfire.' The next thing they heard was a massive police response. 'I go to The Battery and I go to the Braves games, I walk my dogs here and I've never had any problems.' But on Friday, the men's disagreement ended with Bender dead and Bennett in jail. Investigators told Channel 2 Action News that Bennett, a convicted felon, was also wanted on other criminal charges when the shooting happened. 'Am I a little shocked? Yes,' Cook said. 'Worried or scared? No.' Another neighbor said they'd lived in the area for several years and 'never had any problems, never had any gunshots, violence, anything like that.'
