Royal Dubai continues perfect start for Burrows

Royal Dubai continued his perfect start for trainer Owen Burrows as he pounced late to claim the Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
Previously trained by Marco Botti, Royal Dubai switched to Burrows' care after two unsuccessful British runs in April and June, but he struck gold in Listed company at Newbury on his yard debut last month.
Upped to Group Three level here, the 9-4 joint favourite was anchored towards the rear by Callum Rodriguez through the early stages but when the gaps came in the final furlong, Royal Dubai had the necessary speed to take advantage and pipped Military Order by a neck on the line, with Haunted Dream back in third.
Rodriguez told Racing TV: 'It was a good performance. We were drawn on the inside, he's a horse that enjoys a bit of cover and passing horses so we were never going to be in a rush.
'I was a little bit worried up the straight that we weren't going to get the splits but he was all there for me when we did and he's picked up well to the line.'
Suite Francaise benefited from a perfectly-judged front-running ride to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Dick Hern Stakes.
Joe Fanning had the 15-2 shot smartly away and she never looked like being passed, claiming a two-length success over Never Let Go.
Winning trainer Charlie Johnston knows the family well with his father having trained the dam, Francophilia for owner Kirsten Rausing while Suite Francaise's sister Francophone was a Listed victor for the trainer last term.
He was represented by his mother Deirdre, who said: 'They're all superstars and such lovely horses to have at home and look after. Joe said she was so quiet down at the start he was hoping she was all right as she was so well behaved.
'He said she was never going to get beat, she was out there in front, really enjoying it and when he kicked, off she went.
'It was fantastic. She's done nothing wrong and black type is a big thing for Kirsten, we've got big black type but in Group company would be even better.'

Dick and Angel Strawbridge fans 'can't stop crying' after emotional post

Escape to the Chateau stars Dick and Angel Strawbridge took to social media to say 'thank you' for the 'magical memories' as fans reacted to the news Dick and Angel Strawbridge have entertained us on screen for over a decade and now the couple, along with their children, are sharing more magical memories. The much-loved duo took to Instagram today (10 August) to share a series of pictures from their amazing holiday in Australia. ‌ In the snaps, the family can be seen posing together in sweet pictures as well as enjoying the wildlife that Australia has to offer, with kangaroos and snakes joining them in the photos. ‌ Posting on The Strawbridge Family account, they captioned it: 'Thank you Australia for the magical memories. More to come on our adventures.. but we had to share some of our favourite pictures. ‌ 'We have hugged, laughed and swapped stories with so many.. it's really been truly amazing. Thank you for the love. Until the next time!' It comes after BBC Death in Paradise's Kris Marshall shares heartbreak over being sacked and losing job. Fans flocked to the comments section, with many being in complete shock at how much their children, Arthur and Dorothy, have grown since viewers last saw them on Escape to the Chateau. ‌ One fan expressed: 'One, I just want to cry. Looking at Dorothy and Arthur and how they have grown. I've watched your beautiful family from the beginning of the Chateau show (which I miss). They are beautiful. Dorothy is gorgeous and Arthur is exceedingly handsome.' Another social media user commented: 'I cannot believe how much Dorothy and Arthur have grown. I remember how little they were. I watched your TV program from the very beginning.' Somebody else agreed: 'Surreal to see how grown up the kids are considering we're still seeing reruns of the Chateau when Arthur was 9! So glad you've enjoyed our beautiful country.' ‌ While a fourth added: 'Cannot believe how much the kids have grown! Hope you all had a wonderful time.' Escape to the Chateau followed the family as they bought and renovated the 19 th century Château de la Motte-Husson, in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France. ‌ The show began airing on Channel 4 in 2016 aired a whopping 50 episodes across nine seasons before it ended in December 2022. Revealing why they decided to end the show, the couple told HELLO! In 2023: 'It was two years ago that we decided to end the Escape to the Chateau series. 'We made the decision because the kids are growing older, and all the parallel activity was not sustainable at this level. We are doers and we are never going to stop completely, but we're also protecting them. 'Arthur is starting senior school and the pressure on our little ones is phenomenal. When he goes there, people may have heard that his parents have done stuff on television. Angel added: 'Up until this year, we were not on French television at our request because while we are the British family that bought the Chateau in the village, we are very much completely normal.'

Charles-Barclay wins emotional first T100 title on home soil

Lucy Charles-Barclay claimed her first T100 win in style on home turf as she banished last year's London demons. The Hertfordshire native had to drop out of the 2024 event in the capital on the running leg but this year she surged into the lead at the same stage and enjoyed a victory lap. Charles-Barclay had previously finished on the T100 podium three times but finally made the step up to the top as she headed a British one-two ahead of Kate Waugh. 'I still can't quite believe it, especially after last year, having such a bad year and not finishing,' the 31-year-old said. 'I have completely turned it around and to win here in front of all my friends and family is amazing. 'I think that is maybe the most emotional I have ever been on the finish line, just knowing that all those people that I care about so much got to see me win." Having set the pace on the 2km swim, Charles-Barclay emerged with a two-second lead over Learmonth, with Waugh and Taylor Knibb within touching distance. Learmonth moved into an early advantage on the bike but no-one was able to establish a convincing lead with all four taking to the front across the 80km, eight-lap bike section. Charles-Barclay did give herself a narrow lead heading into the final discipline, with Knibb and Learmonth 16 and 18 seconds behind, respectively. A post shared by T100 Triathlon World Tour (@t100triathlon) Waugh was 11 seconds further back, but Charles-Barclay was soon reeled in with Paris Olympian Waugh moving into an 18-second advantage. Knibb was unable to hold the pace as she dropped back but with Learmonth also fading, she was assured of a podium position. Charles-Barclay refused to allow Waugh to extend her gap, and as they headed onto the fifth and final lap of the 18km run, the leader began to falter. Eventually, Charles-Barclay was able to overtake, and with Waugh unable to go with her, she was able to savour a maiden victory. She added: 'I really feel like this year I am getting back to my old self. I have just been really consistent all year in my training, and I feel like we are finally starting to see this in racing. 'Coming into this race, I knew I was in really good shape. I had an amazing training camp leading into this, and I have been away with my family, who have supported me 100 per cent and helped me to get into my best shape for this race. 'I knew I was in really good shape, I just had to play it down because last year was so bad. Just to be able to pull it all together and have a solid day all around feels amazing and getting the win makes me so happy.' Rylan Clark shares 'nightmare' plane journey that left him saying 'I didn't think I'd be here'

Radio 2 star Rylan Clark shared a series of unfortunate events that happened on his flight back from Spain with his beloved mum Linda, including a malfunctioning engine Radio presenter Rylan Clark revealed his flight "nightmare" as his journey home from a brief Spanish getaway was plagued with problems, leaving him worried he'd miss his BBC Radio 2 programme. ‌ The former X Factor contestant had jetted off to Marbella for a quick break with his cherished mum Linda, but their return to London turned into a comedy of errors. ‌ The homeward trip encountered multiple setbacks, including faulty air conditioning, engine troubles and frustrated passengers threatening to abandon the aircraft, which Rylan amusingly recounted alongside his mother's experience. ‌ Telling the tale to his BBC Radio 2 colleague Sally Boazman yesterday (Saturday, August 8), he revealed: "I didn't think I was going to be here. I had a nightmare yesterday. "About half an hour after we're supposed to board, everyone's like: 'What's going on?' Basically the women went 'there's a problem with the air con on the plane. On the way out it just went off so it's just sweating for everyone. They're just fixing it now,'" reports the Manchester Evening News. ‌ "Everyone's like: 'How long's that going to be?' They say 'seconds'." The 36 year old explained that another hour passed with passengers eventually sitting on the floor before being told the aircraft was ready. However, matters deteriorated further when they boarded and discovered the left engine had failed due to a computer glitch, according to the pilot. ‌ He revealed: "Basically there was a problem with the computer, it's not firing the left engine. It's a software error. "They had to switch the plane off for seven minutes. Everything is turned off, it's silent. I've never been on a plane like this before." Rylan revealed that they had been aboard the aircraft for two hours when one family began insisting they wanted to disembark. ‌ He described the scene: "One family want to get off. I've never seen anything more British than a plane of people turn against a family. "We all knew every single bag had to be put onto the runway to find their four bags. That's taken another hour. They've run out of water. ‌ "Then the mechanics go: 'We've managed to get the engine working.' Then they said they need to re-fuel because they've left the plane on for so long." Rylan quipped he could have travelled to Dubai and back given the extensive hold-up. He concluded the tale by revealing they arrived home "safe and sound" at London City Airport just before 10pm, barely avoiding a diversion due to the airport's 10pm curfew. Despite the gruelling day for Rylan and his mother, he heaped praise on the aircraft's captain and crew who helped make the nightmarish journey from Malaga Airport back to London more tolerable.
