[1] Permit hearing for wastewater project near Tesuque draws mixed reaction – Some residents in northern New Mexico are voicing their concerns over a local resort's plan to dump its treated wastewater near a local water source. The Bishop's Lodge Resort in Tesuque is asking the state for a wastewater discharge permit. Residents say it would allow the lodge to release 30,000 gallons per day of partially treated sewage, putting surrounding areas at risk. An attorney for Bishop's Lodge argues their wastewater system is state-of-the-art and safe. A spokesperson for the New Mexico Environment Department says the matter is now in the hands of the cabinet secretary.
[2] Judge denies motion to dismiss charges for man accused of assault at McDonald's – Last year, surveillance video shows a man violently beating another customer, leaving him in a coma. Police said Heath Miller was the attacker after a tipster identified him. In a motion, the defense argued that the anonymous tip was not enough probable cause for arrest. The judge denied the defense's motion. She also denied the defense's motion asking for him to be released pending trial. He is charged with aggravated assault.
[3] Way-above-normal temperatures & calm weather ahead – High temperatures will hit the 90s for the first time this year on Thursday afternoon in Albuquerque. Winds will stay light as well, with the exception of a few 25 to 30 mph breezes. Moisture will push into eastern New Mexico Wednesday night, bringing a chance for spotty showers to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and far southeast New Mexico.
[4] Santa Fe County officials address deadly road near jail – Santa Fe County officials are working to address a stretch of New Mexico Highway 14, outside the county jail, that is considered dangerous for walkers. A New York Times article published last week highlighted how some inmates would choose to walk along the road after being released. The jail is in a a remote area with little-to-no lighting and no sidewalks. In the last ten years, at least five people who have been released have been killed while walking along NM 14. The jail warden says everyone is offered a ride to a designated location once they're released.
[5] NMexus Center officially opens at Mesa del Sol – A first-of-its-kind global business accelerator center opened in New Mexico. Mesa del Sol held a ribbon cutting to officially open the NMexus Center. The center is meant to act as a permanent pipeline for foreign investment in the state. There are currently seven companies housed in the center with room to serve up to 40. Right now, there are companies from India, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

This operation was conducted as an ongoing effort to help local retailers to stop shoplifting. The backstory On Tuesday, June 3, around 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a report at Kohl's, at 11111 Lakeline Blvd., regarding two people who were removing security tags and unpaid hiding merch while in the store. APD: K-9 killed by ‘friendly' fire during SWAT standoff

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – KRQE News 13 has learned the Albuquerque police dog that died in the line of duty last week was killed with friendly fire. 'You know, our canines are here to save and preserve human life. They are here to preserve human life, both of suspects and officers. And this was a difficult situation like mayor said, you know, he did lose his life to friendly fire,' said Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina. VIDEO: Police interview suspects in fatal robbery involving teens in Albuquerque Chief Medina made that statement Friday morning during a fundraiser announcement honoring Rebel, the K-9 shot and killed at the Comfort Suites near the Albuquerque International Sunport on May 29. Police were trying to arrest 39-year-old Jorge Dominguez, who had fled from a SWAT standoff earlier in the week. Police said Dominguez, armed with a loaded gun, tried to flee again from the hotel when he was spotted, ran back into his room, and jumped out a window. SWAT officers then deployed the rebel. Gunshots rang out at some point, and Rebel was hit. Dominguez was also killed. APD said while it's still early in the investigation, they do not have any evidence at this point that Dominguez fired his gun. 'As we get closer, we will be able to explain and show the specific dynamics that were occurring that day that really limited our officers and their response to this situation,' said Chief Medina. To honor Rebel, the Sandia Peak Tramway will donate $1 from every ticket purchase to APD's K-9 Unit. The city said those funds will go toward a new training facility near Daniel Webster Park. The facility will be named after K-9 Rebel. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Houston ICE Deports 142 Mexican Criminals

(Texas Scorecard) – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has deported 142 criminal aliens from the Houston area to Mexico. Among them were eight known gang members, 11 convicted child predators, and one individual who had entered the country illegally 21 separate times. Collectively, the group illegally entered the country 480 times and accumulated 473 criminal convictions for a wide range of serious crimes, including: 11 convictions for child sex crimes 76 convictions for driving while intoxicated (DWI) 43 convictions for aggravated assault and domestic violence 22 convictions for human smuggling ICE Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford said, 'Unfortunately, this is not an anomaly. For the past few years, there has been virtually no deterrent to illegal entry into the country.' As a result, millions of illegal aliens, including violent criminals, child predators, transnational gang members, and foreign fugitives, have poured into the U.S. Among the most egregious cases: Benito Charqueno Zavala, 60, was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child and is one of the 11 convicted child predators deported. Johnny Urbina Carillo, 37, was convicted of sexually exploiting a minor and had prior convictions for cocaine possession and illegal reentry. Luis Angel Garcia-Contreras, 40, a documented member of the Sureños 13 gang, had illegally entered the U.S. 21 times and had four convictions for illegal entry. Last week, ICE arrested nine illegal aliens allegedly involved in a drug trafficking operation that utilized both the U.S. Mail and a taco truck for distribution. Last month, ICE arrested 422 illegal aliens in the Houston area, including a convicted murderer who had been released into the country under Biden-era parole policies. Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey, a Republican, noted that the county jail maintains a strong partnership with ICE and regularly transfers custody of individuals with ICE detainers. Houston Mayor John Whitmire clarified in January that the Houston Police Department does not participate in federal immigration enforcement. 'HPD enforces state laws and will hold violators accountable regardless of immigration status,' he said. Still, HPD does notify ICE when officers encounter suspects with active immigration warrants.
