Mention of MACC's Ilham Tower forfeiture application set for Aug 6
In a statement, the MACC said the application was filed on May 25 under Section 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
The statement further noted that the MACC will engage with enforcement authorities in the United States to obtain legal assistance in initiating proceedings against assets linked to Daim, his wife, Toh Puan Nai'mah Abdul Khalid, and their proxies within that jurisdiction.
On June 25, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the Commission had filed a forfeiture application in respect of the 60-storey building, which forms part of the latest series of assets identified for forfeiture proceedings involving the former finance minister, Nai'mah, and several of their proxies in Malaysia.

Singapore jails Filipino maid for aiding scam syndicate that targeted older women
SINGAPORE, July 2 — A Filipino domestic worker here was sentenced to 40 days' jail for unknowingly helping transfer scam proceeds totalling over S$116,000 (RM383,000) to a Thai bank account. The helper, Galvez Mary Joe Blanco, 36, pleaded guilty to one charge of transferring S$116,154.51 from her POSB account to a Kasikornbank account in May 2024, Channel News Asia reported. She carried out the transfer as a favour to another maid, 57-year-old Filipino Maria Luz Suerte Lopez, who had been duped by a man she met on TikTok. Maria had begun chatting daily with someone calling himself Alex Stillinger, who claimed to be a member of the United States Army and sought her help to receive money from supposed gold investments. As Maria did not have a bank account, she asked Galvez to use hers, promising her a small token for each transaction. Between May 15 and May 29 last year, a total of S$118,133 was transferred into Galvez's account, of which about S$116,000 was forwarded to a Thai account under the name 'Saichit Jeremiah'. Investigators found that S$20,300 of the funds was directly linked to love scams involving two Singaporean women, aged 61 and 70. The 70-year-old had been tricked into transferring S$108,500, though only a small portion passed through Galvez's account while the rest went elsewhere. Galvez was arrested in October 2024 and handed over S$1,151.50 — what she earned from the arrangement — but no other money was recovered. While the prosecution argued for up to six-and-a-half months' jail due to her role in facilitating scams, Galvez has appealed her sentence and remains out on bail pending the hearing.

Businessman Albert Tei reported to police over ‘seditious' remarks on Sabah chief minister
KOTA KINABALU, July 2 — A police report has been lodged against businessman Datuk Albert Tei over allegedly malicious and defamatory statements implicating Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor while facing legal proceedings. Special Officer to the Chief Minister, Mazlan Joehari Manan, filed the report at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters over Tei's remarks made at the Kota Kinabalu High Court compound on Monday which he said were false, malicious and defamatory. 'Tei has openly alleged and issued a warning or reminder to the public that should anything happen to him — including kidnapping, murder, or disappearance — the chief minister of Sabah and nine other individuals should be held responsible. 'This allegation constitutes a serious criminal accusation and is seditious in nature against the chief minister,' said Mazlan. He added that the remarks also implied that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the National Registration Department (JPN) were guilty of selective investigation and prosecution. 'Given that the case involving Albert and two state assemblymen is already before the court for trial, Albert should not have made public statements via press conference that convey negative perceptions, false and defamatory claims, or that cast other parties — including the chief minister, MACC and JPN — in a bad light. 'Both directly and indirectly, Albert has also committed contempt of court (sub judice) by attempting to create a trial by media,' he said. The police report was filed to prompt legal action in response to Tei's conduct. On Monday, Tei, Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof @ Josree Yacob, and Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to corruption charges involving mineral mining licences in the state in 2023. Dr Yusof was charged with receiving RM200,000 in cash, while Andi was accused of receiving RM150,000 in March and May 2023, respectively. Tei was charged with offering the bribes. Tei questioned why only two assemblymen had been charged in the eight months since the MACC began investigating a series of released videos, despite him having 'given stronger evidence' against seven others. 'They caught the small fry, but the sharks are still roaming around,' he told reporters outside the courthouse. He further said that if anything bad were to happen to him or if he went missing, the 10 individuals would be to blame.

Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged by Special Officer to the Chief Minister Mazlan@Joehari Manan against Albert Tei for alleged defamatory and seditious statements he made during a media conference outside the High Court, here, on Monday. The report was lodged at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Tuesday. 'Albert made statements containing malicious, false and insulting elements against the Sabah Chief Minister, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General's Chambers during the media conference,' Mazlan said in the report. 'He openly made accusations and warnings to the public that should anything happen to him, including kidnapping, murder or disappearance, the Chief Minister and several other individuals should be held accountable. 'These are extremely serious criminal accusations and seditious in nature against the Chief Minister,' he said. Mazlan said given Albert's ongoing court case involving two Sabah assemblymen, he (Albert) should not have made statements through the media that could create negative perceptions and contain defamatory and false elements that could harm various parties, including the Chief Minister, MACC and Attorney General's Chambers. 'Albert's actions could constitute contempt of court (subjudice) as the matter is currently before the courts,' he said.
