Cinco de Mayo expected to see rainfall

Yahoo05-05-2025
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The western slope woke up to some scattered showers this morning as the next storm system arrives to western Colorado. This trend of dreary weather is expected to stick around for a couple of days to kick off the first full week of May. Throughout the day today, there is about a 70 percent chance of showers with mostly cloudy conditions and even potential for thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures are only expected to reach the mid sixties today with this storm keeping the Grand Valley cool. Tonight, conditions for rainfall continue with chances for thunderstorms sticking around until 2 a.m.Another round of moderate precipitation is expected to lift across Southwest Colorado this morning and into northern portions of Utah and Colorado by late afternoon. Significant mountain snow will remain a threat over higher terrain of the San Juan through this evening. Heavier snow also moves into the high peaks of the central divide mountains by early Tuesday. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the higher elevations of the San Juan Mountains through 6 AM Tuesday. Expect some travel impacts over the higher mountain corridors through this time. Unsettled and cool conditions continue into the mid week before warmer and drier conditions return by late week.Southwest Colorado has seen over a quarter inch of snow over the past 24 hours with areas near the Animas Basin and east have seen over a half of an inch. The big winner is Columbus Basin so far where over an inch has fallen with several San Juan snow totals over 3/4 of an inch as well. The forecast appears on track with some slushy snow seen on road cams when snow rates were fairly robust, but has now melted back. The higher passes along Highway 550 south of Silverton seem to be keeping a snow pack but do expect this to improve through the morning. It looks safe to say that several peaks/basins will see a foot to 2 feet of snow in the highest elevations by this time tomorrow as the things will have wound down with this first part of the storm.Overall, expect a rainy day ahead, Western Slope!

DARE COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A local state of emergency has been issued for all areas of Dare County due to Hurricane Erin. The decision comes after Dare County officials gathered this afternoon to receive a briefing from the National Weather Service, where they determined the system has the chance to produce life-threatening impacts on the Dare County Coastline. As a result, it is expected that multiple portions of N.C. Highway 12 on Hatteras Island will be impassable for several days. Due to this, a mandatory evacuation of Zone A of the Hatteras Island has been issued. This zone includes all of Hatteras Island, including the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon. Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras. All visitors in this zone must evacuate beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18 All residents in this zone must evacuate beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19 Officials recommend anyone effected make preparations now, including securing any property and collecting all personal belongings. Potentially strong storms, flooding overnight in El Paso area– Your 9-Day Forecast

I issued the Weather Authority Alert yesterday for Tuesday due to the potential for strong storms and intense rainfall. That certainly happened tonight with several streets and arroyos flooded with water. A Flash Flood Warning is posted until 10:15 PM for west and central El Paso. Cars have stalled in the flood waters on Mesa Street. In addition, a Flood Advisory is posted until 11 PM for central and northeast El Paso, including Fort Bliss. Do not drive into flooded roadways. I am a lot less nervous about Wednesday. After the t-showers tonight, Wednesday will be a very different day. Here's your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast with you 9-Day Forecast below: TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to the potential for strong t-showers and intense rainfall out of some storms overnight tonight. The skies will be partly cloudy, but due to the high instability and moisture levels, storms will develop that could be stronger this evening. Heavy rainfall is possible out of individual storms. Do not drive into flooded roadways. Storm chances last well into the night/early morning. The east winds will range from 5-20 mph with stronger gusts near storms. The low will drop to 72. FORECAST: Wednesday will be partly cloudy with only a slight chance of isolated area storms in the evening. Rain chances go way down for Wednesday, and the high will be 96. Thursday will be partly cloudy and 97 with isolated late day t-storms. Friday will be partly cloudy and 96 with widely scattered showers and t-showers. Some storms may produce brief, heavy rainfall. Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy and 92 with scattered showers and t-showers. Moisture levels will be high for the weekend, so both Saturday and Sunday could bring storms with brief, heavy rainfall. Sunday will be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and t-showers. Sunday's high: 91. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
