Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen says his 7-year-old son Wesley is recovering from leukemia
Hines-Allen and his wife, Kaitlyn, provided the news in a three-minute video released on social media. They said the diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia came after Wesley spiked a fever and started bleeding from a tooth days before last year's season finale, which Hines-Allen missed for personal reasons.
'It just kind of like hit me, and then nothing else mattered after that,' Hines-Allen said in the video.
Wesley underwent chemotherapy for six months. He has a few treatments remaining before he gets to ring the bell next month at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville.
'Wesley is doing great,' Kaitlyn said in the video. 'He's swimming every day. He's running around. He's playing sports.'
Added Hines-Allen: 'He's got back to being the big brother that he is.'
Hines-Allen and his wife also announced Friday that their nonprofit foundation, Four One For All, will launch a season-long campaign called 'Four One For Hope' to give back to four cancer-focused non-profits each month of the NFL regular season.
Money raised will go to Nemours Children's Hospital in September, the American Cancer Society in October, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville in October and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation in December.
'Our goal is to ensure that families going through something similar feel the same level of love and support as we did,' Hines-Allen said in a statement.
Hines-Allen is a two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher who has 53 career sacks in six seasons in Jacksonville, two shy of the franchise record held by Tony Brackens. He signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract that included $76.5 million fully guaranteed before the 2024 season.

Broncos salary cap update after Courtland Sutton and Zach Allen extensions
Going into training camp two weeks ago, the Denver Broncos had a little more than $12.5 million in salary cap space. After making four roster moves and giving contract extensions to wide receiver Courtland Sutton and defensive lineman Zach Allen, the team has around $5,545,012 remaining, according to an estimate from Allen will have a salary cap hit of $14.345 million this season and Sutton will have a cap hit of $13.9 million. Allen's cap charge will skyrocket to $28.625 million in 2026 while Sutton's will take a small jump up to $13.975 million. Allen and Sutton are the team's third- and fourth-biggest cap hits this year, only behind guard Ben Powers ($17.425 million) and right tackle Mike McGlinchey ($23.775 million). The team's biggest cap bargains this season include running back J.K. Dobbins ($2.065 million), safety Talanoa Hufanga ($3,411,765) and quarterback Bo Nix ($4,230,265). Other players who could be next in line for extensions include outside linebacker Nik Bonitto and defensive linemen John Franklin-Myers and Malcolm Roach. Five years later, Saints' decision to cut Thomas Morstead looms large
Saints have had bad luck with punters before, and after, Thomas Morstead's reign The New Orleans Saints released their punter in 2024, Matthew Hayball, on Wednesday after just one year with the team. Unless they re-sign Hayball, the Saints will have a different punter in 2025 for a fourth consecutive season. Punter has been a position that's been a revolving door for the Saints for several decades. Dating all the way back to placekicker/punter Russell Erxleben, a first-round bust taken with the 11th overall choice in the 1979 NFL draft, the position has often been a carousel of unsuccessful or inconsistent players for the franchise. Only a few punters have been the exception to this rule. Brian Hansen had success with the Saints for five seasons through the mid-1980s, making the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 1984. Mitch Berger arrived to New Orleans in the middle of a well-traveled career in 2003 and was a standout for three seasons, earning a Pro Bowl bid in 2004. Sean Payton named Steve Weatherford his punter in 2006, but after cycling through three different punters in 2008, he chose to go in a new direction. By far the best punter to wear a New Orleans uniform has been Thomas Morstead. A fifth-round choice by the Saints in the 2009 draft out of SMU, Morstead was with New Orleans for 12 seasons through 2020. While too often overlooked in Pro Bowl voting, Morstead was annually among the best punters in the league for both power and placement. He left the Saints with an outstanding average of 46.5 yards per punt, frequently giving the team a field position advantage that Drew Brees rarely squandered. Morstead was released by the Saints after the 2020 campaign. In the five offseasons since, he's been with five different teams and is currently with the San Francisco 49ers. While he remains a very good punter, the Saints have failed to find a suitable replacement: Barring the signing of another leg during the preseason, the Saints punting competition is between undrafted rookies Kai Kroeger (South Carolina) and James Burnip (Alabama). In an ironic twist of fate, New Orleans looks to face at least two of their last four punters in 2025. Blake Gillikin currently faces no competition as the incumbent for the Arizona Cardinals, who the Saints play in the regular season opener on Sept. 7. Assuming he holds onto the 49ers job, Thomas Morstead returns to the Caesars Superdome the following week on Sept. 14. Facing Morstead might be the cruelest irony because of the team's lack of success in trying to replace him.
