Hickman and Todd set to be part of new BMW team

BBC News10-02-2025

Peter Hickman and Davey Todd look set to be part of a new BMW team for this year's international road races and British Superbike Championship following an announcement that the pair will not after all be competing for the FHO Racing outfit in 2025.It was announced in November that Yorkshireman Todd would join Hickman in Faye Ho's team for this season but a change of plan means both riders are set to ride BMW bikes under the banner of 8TEN Racing in the forthcoming season.FHO Racing will now field one rider only in the BSB series, 2024 IDM Superbike champion and World Endurance rider Ilya Mikhalchik, who will make his debut in the championship.Faye Ho will also continue to support and provide investment to a number of young women in the racing paddock as they seek to progress their careers through numerous British Championship support classes, plus pursue further motorsports activities in new markets in Asia."I am a strong advocate of the British Superbike Championship, one of the most entertaining and competitive series in the world," Faye Ho said in an announcement of her team's change of plan on British Superbike.com, external"However, with my long-term goals looking to push motorsports activities in Asia, as well as to keep supporting young women with opportunities in racing, I've come to realise I cannot fully commit to the previous levels of time that I have given to BSB and Road Racing since becoming team owner in 2021 with additional commitments I have back at home in Macau," she added.British Superstock champion Todd and TT lap record holder Hickman will campaign the all-new BMW M 1000 RR in 2025 with full details of the new 8TEN team to be announced on 26 February.

The Hotter 2027 X5 Will Be Different In Every Single Way

X5 M60e Bridges The Performance Gap When you're a kid, you think you want the best of everything, and certainly the fastest possible car, but in reality, you want something that doesn't draw attention from cops, isn't too expensive to insure, and won't drain a college fund every time you fill it up – something like the BMW X5 M60i. It still has a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 like the maniacal X5 M, but here, it's supported by mild-hybrid technology to improve efficiency. For the G65 X5, which will likely arrive for the 2027 model year, BMW will take things further by fitting a plug and making it a 'real' hybrid. As a result, the name will become X5 M60e, but it comes with some compromises. More Power, More Tech, Fewer Cylinders Since the last time we spotted the next-gen X5, not much has changed, so we'll discuss the looks at the end of this article. What matters is what's happening under the skin, and today's 523-horsepower output won't cut the mustard. Unfortunately, justifying the V8 when trying to make a shift toward cleaner cars is tricky, and BMW Blog reports that the hottest 'regular' X5 will have to do without, switching to a plug-in hybrid six-cylinder like the current M760e limousine. At least it should have 'over 550 hp,' according to the publication. Even more evidence of Bavaria's ambition to see the X5 stand the tests of time and emissions legislation comes from a recent Autocar report, which cites 'high-ranking sources' as saying that the next X5 may get range-extender tech, and it could spread up to the X7 and down to the X3, too. This makes sense. Scout Motors will offer EREVs, and so may the next Kia Telluride, showing that the market is clamouring for more efficient engines as well as EVs that can be used even when a charger isn't nearby. Along with more power and more miles per gallon, the new X5 will still be expected to handle like a BMW, which is how our photographers caught these images at a Nürburgring industry testing day. While little has changed compared to our last sighting, the glass roof is clearer, and these appear to be production wheels. Their design is unlike anything we've seen in the BMW stable before, but big blue brake calipers with the obligatory M logos will ensure we instinctively know what brand made them. Overall, it's very similar to the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, and we think that'll make for a handsome face. We can also see some slight boxing around the arches, which will add presence, and a the rear, a quartet of exhaust pipes achieves the same, though the eventual G95 X5 M will surely turn things up to 11. The sculpted mirror housings on this development mule look production-ready, too, and the camo over the windows might even indicate that this has a full interior, though it appears the driver is using instruments that won't be part of the Panoramic Vision infotainment system. This prototype looks like a set of production headlights and taillights away from being ready, but there's still plenty to be done. The G65 BMW X5's debut is only expected at the end of next year or early in 2027, so there's a lot more yet to be revealed. About the Author Sebastian Cenizo View Profile

Shop boss running illegal £1m tobacco operation ordered to pay £87k and sell BMW

Shop boss running illegal £1m tobacco operation ordered to pay £87k and sell BMW The shop was described as a 'very busy and successful' cash-based business which was being run 'primarily for the purposes of selling illicit tobacco' Swansea Crown Court heard the Groszek store in Llanelli town centre was run 'primarily for the purposes of selling illicit tobacco' (Image: Google ) One of the bosses of a shop used in a £1m counterfeit tobacco operation has been ordered to pay back tens of thousands of pounds and to sell a BMW vehicle. Shoresh Mhmood faces 10 months in prison if £86,927 isn't handed over in three months. Mhmood's co-defendant in the illegal operation, Aran Baker, has been ordered to pay £630. ‌ Swansea Crown Court has previously heard that officers from Carmarthenshire Council carried out a series of test purchases at the Groszek shop on Cowell Street in Llanelli town centre during 2021 and 2022 during which illicit cigarettes were bought. ‌ Searches were then carried out at the home addresses of the directors of the business, 35-year-old Mhmood and 48-year-old Baker. The court heard 9,500 counterfeit cigarettes including brands such as Mayfair, some 170 pouches of tobacco, and a safe containing £32,699 in cash were found in Mhmood's house while 89,000 counterfeit cigarettes were found at Baker's home. Read about a criminal gang which was running a multi-million-pound operation selling counterfeit cigarettes and nitrous oxide canisters through a network of corner shops in south Wales Lee Reynolds, prosecuting, said it was the prosecution case that the Cowell Street premises was a largely cash-based operation and was a "very busy and successful shop run primarily for the purposes of selling illicit tobacco". Article continues below He said handwritten records discovered during the investigation suggested that on the quietest day of the week - usually Sundays - the shop was taking £615 from the sale of illicit tobacco while on busy days it was up to £2,225. The prosecutor said the average daily figure was more than £1,200 and that across the 817-day span of the indictment that would result in a value of just under £1m. Shoresh Salih Mhmood, of Dillwyn Street, Llanelli, was sentenced to 42 months in prison and Aran Baker, of Penciliogi, Llanelli, to 51 months in prison for engaging in fraudulent business practices. Mr Reynolds said it had been determined that each defendant had benefited from their criminal behaviour to the tune of £125,000 and that investigators had determined Baker had available assets of £630 in the form of money in a bank account while Mhmood had available assets totalling £89,927 in the form of cash, a "significant sum" in a bank account, and a BMW vehicle. The barrister said the BMW would now be sold to realise its value, likely by way of an auction. Article continues below The court made confiscation orders in the sums identified as available assets and set periods of custody in default of payment - seven days in the case of Baker and 10 months in the case of Mhmood.

The impressive find was a barn, brimming with a huge collection of iconic classic motors. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The Cadillac Fleetwood is an incredibly rare car to come across in the UK The cars, including a Jaguar E-Type and Volkswagen LT Camper, had all been left to rust on an abandoned farm. YouTuber The Bearded Explorer came across the site and was particularly blown away by one car. "There is a Jaguar E-Type in here, but that would be my favourite car. That is absolutely stunning," he said on the video. He pointed out the unusual number plate, which reads TC30. "If you saw that rolling down the road you would stop, look, and you would keep on looking until it disappeared," he added. A rare Cadillac Fleetwood, which was a name given to bespoke models. Cadillac first started selling Fleetwood bodies from 1934 onwards, appearing on cars such as the Series 70. They are incredibly rare and sought after, especially in the UK, so to find one in an old barn is almost unheard of. It's not clear why the cars had been dumped or who originally owned them. Alongside the Cadillac, there was the Jaguar E-Type, which Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari apparently called "the prettiest car ever made". Classic 1964 car pulled from a collapsing barn after 30 years – there's a surprise under the dust and on a nearby shelf In the video clip, the E-Type looks in poor condition, but it had outlasted some of the other cars stored inside the barn. The YouTuber also found an Suzuki Jimny SUV amongst the decay. This isn't the first time that classic cars have been left to rot in a barn. Over 40 abandoned motors from manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, Rover and Volvo were found in an open barn in the UK. A fleet of dilapidated fire engines covered in mould and peeling red paint were also found. The images were taken by urban explorer Kyle Urbex during his 220th exploration at Brian's Vintage Car Collection in Chester. Kyle found the graveyard hidden away behind dense vegetation near the home of elderly couple Brian and Barbara. Other images show old tractors and JCBs scattered across the property, giving it an eerie abandoned atmosphere. He also found a BMW 635 CSI, once a sign of luxury, slowly being reclaimed by nature. With iconic styling and nicknamed 'shark nose' the motor was very much the symbol of the BMW range after being introduced in 1978. Kyle's visit took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon Brian himself who revealed his hopes for the future. He said: "Brian has full intentions of one day being able to restore this high car collection, but given his age of 70+, I highly doubt he will get around to restoring all the cars and fire trucks. "He has been victim to some of the cars being smashed to bits by youths."
