'Zero shadow day' makes photos look like AI
Two days a year, locations near the tropics experience a usual phenomenon that causes shadows to vanish, making photos look fake.
'Zero shadow day' occurs when the sun is directly overhead, something that is only possible between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn due to the Earth's tilt.
At the precise moment when the sun is at the highest point in the sky, objects appear as though they do not have a shadow. However, that is not necessarily the case. Instead, shadows are cast straight down, rather than being cast at an angle like they are most days of the year.
A person standing still would only have a shadow at their feet. This can make photos of objects look unnatural, as if they were created by AI.
Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that experiences zero shadow day, and is known locally as Lahaian Noon. The exact date of Lahaian Noon varies across the island, but generally occurs once between May 14 and May 30, and again between July 11 and July 27.
Mexico City, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru, India, are a handful of cities around the globe that experience zero shadow day twice a year.
The only catch is that the event only lasts for a few minutes, so one poorly timed cloud could spoil the show.

Syme is a sparkling success in Amsterdam as Scot claims his first DP World Tour title
Scotland's Connor Syme enjoyed a champagne-drenched celebration after claiming his first title on the DP World Tour. The 29-year-old went into the final round at the KLM Open in Amsterdam with a two-shot lead over playing partner Joakim Lagergren — and maintained the same advantage despite a brilliant closing eagle from the Swede. Syme finished 11 under after shooting a one-under-par 70 and making only one bogey in his final 38 holes. He said: 'Unbelievable, it was so, so difficult the last few days. I just felt so much better this week, I felt really ready to do it, and I'm so, so happy I managed to do it. 'Everyone helped so much and I'm buzzing to do it with Ryan McGuigan on the bag as well. I'm overjoyed.' Wife Alanis flew out to the Netherlands to surprise Syme on the final green, where he also enjoyed being soaked in champagne by compatriot Ewen Ferguson — who hit a hole in one earlier in the day to help him finish in a tie for fourth — and England's Richard Mansell. 'It's so, so nice that they stuck around,' said Syme. 'I've obviously been really pleased for them (when they've won titles) and I'm really happy to have joined them and won myself, so it's just amazing. Amazing.' Lagergren also closed with a 70, while South Africa's Jayden Schaper finished in third place, a further five shots behind, with a 69. Ferguson shot 67 to tie with fellow Scot Richie Ramsay (72) and Englishman Jack Senior (66).

Runaway pet zebra that became internet sensation finally captured
Ed the zebra was captured safely after being found in a field in the Christiana community in central Tennessee, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's office said aviation crews captured him. 'Ed was airlifted and flown by helicopter back to a waiting animal trailer,' the sheriff's office said in a statement. Video posted by the sheriff's office shows Ed wrapped in a net with his head sticking out as he is carried by the helicopter to the trailer. Ed arrived in Christiana on May 30, the sheriff's office said. His owner reported him missing the next day. The zebra was spotted and filmed running along Interstate 24, forcing deputies to shut the road. But Ed escaped into a wooded area. There were several sightings posted to social media. Ed was filmed trotting through an urban neighbourhood. The zebra quickly became the subject of internet memes. One fake posting showed Ed dining at a Waffle House, a southern US staple. Others had him visiting other Tennessee cities or begging on the side of the road. The hunt for Ed came a month after a runway kangaroo shut down a section of the Alabama interstate road.
