Shayan Afridi represents Pakistan at ITF Asia 14 & Under Development Championships finals in India

Pakistan's promising junior tennis player, Muhammad Shayan Afridi, has been selected to represent the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Team in the Asia 14 & Under Development Championships Finals 2025.
The prestigious event is scheduled to take place from April 22 to May 3, 2025, at the DLTA Stadium, New Delhi, India.
Shayan earned this opportunity based on his outstanding performance at the regional qualifying event - ITF Asia 14 & Under Development Championships held in Sri Lanka, where he won the Leg-1 final and was runner-up in Leg-2.
Shayan arrived in India on April 20, 2025, ahead of the championships, which brings together top emerging tennis talents from across Asia.
The participating players are from the following nations: Iraq, Syria, Singapore, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Myanmar, Maldives, Malaysia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Iran, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, China, and Turkmenistan.
Shayan expressed his gratitude to the BARD Foundation Pakistan and ACE TENNIS Academy Pakistan for sending him to a one-month training camp in Thailand.
He also thanked the Pakistan Tennis Federation for organising a one-month training camp for the Pakistan 12 & Under team in Kazakhstan in collaboration with the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.
Additionally, Shayan praised the Pakistan Tennis Federation for conducting a one-month training camp in Islamabad with foreign coaches Robert Davis and Lalovic, saying, The training camps played a major role in my selection in the ITF team.
Mr. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), expressed his delight at Shayan's selection, saying, "I am extremely happy for Shayan to be selected for the ITF team.
This achievement is a testament to his exceptional talent and hard work. To be selected in the ITF team is not an easy job, but Shayan has done it through his amazing talent. I wish him all the best and hope he will bring more laurels to Pakistan."
Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail, Secretary General of the PTF, also congratulated Shayan and his family on this remarkable achievement, stating, "Shayan's selection is evidence that Pakistan is full of talent. I wish him a successful performance in the event."

The International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tours Junior does not get much attention but the event in Abuja, Nigeria attracted global recognition with the girls doubles event featuring a pair from Pakistan and India, learnt on Friday. The teenage girls partnered in the doubles event with the ITF projecting it as 'sports unite nation' theme amidst the recent tension between the South Asian neighbours. Amidst the tension, the latest tennis partnership of the two girls reminds of the Rohan Bopanna men's doubles partnership with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan for several years, with the pair known as the IndoPak Express. They were runners-up at the 2010 US Open Doubles event. Pakistan's Soha Ali and India's Sidhak Kaur, secured their spot in the girls' doubles semifinal after a 6-3, 6-5 victory over Nigerian pair of Fego Aiyetoma and Tolu Vyashi in straight sets, winning with a score of 6-3, 6-4. The victory got wide coverage in Nigeria and Pakistan with media outlets vying for interviews. On Thursday night, the Indo-Pak pairing lost to Goodnews Aina and Success Ogunjobi of Nigeria by a score line of 2-6, 2-6 in the semi finals, ending their chance of a title finish. Aisam showed happiness at the Indo-Pak partnership. 'As a player and President of Pakistan Tennis Federation, I really felt great that our Soha partnered with Sidhak in the ITF event," Aisam told 'I have always said that sports should be kept apart from political barriers. Sports unite people and that's the beauty of it." 'I have partnered with Rohan and other Indian players and got huge respect and friendship, because our culture is the same. I truly believe sports is a platform to achieve better relations.' Kaur is said to be the grand niece of gold winning Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi who played a phenomenal role in India clinching Field Hockey Gold at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. The ITF allows players to choose their partners after a discussion before the event. Both the players did not speak to the media over fears of a backlash in their respective countries.

Muzammil, Nadir enter quarter-finals

In the ladies singles first round, Naba Bhatti beat Zainab Fatima 8-2 while Sanam Baloch beat Hibah 8-2. In the Juniors under 17 Singles second round Junaid Meher beat Hanzala 8-5 while Majid Bachani beat Basit 4-0,4-1 and Syed Abdullah beat Ahmed Ali 4-0,4-0 in the under-13 matches. The prestigious Championship is being sponsored by Laboratory & Diagnostic Center and being organized by Hyderabad Tennis Association in collaboration with Hyderabad Gymkhana and under the auspices of Sindh Tennis Association. Earlier, the formal opening ceremony was held on Taj, President and Tariq Bajari, Secretary Hyderabad Gymkhana Adv. Arif Siddiqui of Dr. Essa Laboratory were the honorable guests on the occasion. Sabir Qaimkhanani MNA , Jawed Riar, President HTA, Parwez Ahmed Sheikh of SOA were also present. Secretary Hyderabad Gymkhana Bajari announced to hold a Sindh Ranking Tournament this winter. In the mens singles, Muneer Derbari beat 8-1 while Anas Khan beat Sheeraz Bhand 8-5. In the Juniors u 17 Singles 1st Round Junaid Meher beat Abdul Malik 8-3, Hanzala beat Essa jee 8-2, Ali Bachani beat Rayan Zubairi 8-1.

Shoaib crowned Federal Cup champion
The curtains fell on the 37th OGDCL Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships with a spectacular and action-packed final day at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad. The prestigious championship, now in its 37th edition, is organized annually by the Islamabad Tennis Association. This year's tournament featured over 120 players competing across six categories: Men's Singles & Doubles, Ladies' Singles, Boys' U18 Singles, Boys' U14 Singles, and Girls' U12 Singles. A total of PKR 850,000 was distributed among winners and runners-up as prize money and travel allowances. Due to a thunderstorm and rain in the capital city, the Men's Singles Final — originally scheduled for 4:00 pm — started later than planned. However, the delay did not dampen the intensity or quality of tennis that followed. In a thrilling showdown, 23-year-old top seed Muhammad Shoaib of PAF successfully defended his title against Muzammil Murtaza 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-4 in an exhilarating three-set battle that lasted over 2 hours and 58 minutes. Muzammil started strong, breaking Shoaib early and taking a 3-0 lead but Shoaib quickly adjusted his strategy, breaking back in the fifth game and forcing a tiebreak after both players held serve. In the tiebreak, Shoaib's early mini-break and consistent pressure earned him a hard-fought 8-6 win in the first set. Muzammil bounced back with renewed focus in the second set, breaking Shoaib's serve in the fourth and sixth games to level the match with a 6-2 win. In the deciding set, both players showcased exceptional baseline rallies and strategic cross-court play, reaching 4-4. Shoaib then delivered a clinical performance, breaking Muzammil's serve in the ninth game with powerful down-the-line winners. He maintained his composure while serving for the match, forcing unforced errors from his opponent and sealing the final set 6-4. The enthralling final was officiated by ITF White Badge Umpire Husnain Mehmood. Earlier in the day, in the Junior 18 & Under Singles Final, Muhammad Salar emerged as the champion, defeating promising Islamabad youngster M. Hazik Aasim in a competitive straight-sets match. Muhammad Shafik, Director Commercial - Air Blue, Majid Bashir, President Islamabad Tennis Association, and the President Pakistan Tennis Federation Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi attended as guests of honor.
