Original Iron Maiden member Paul Mario Day, 69, dies
The legend's death was announced by the band he belonged to after Iron Maiden called More.
'We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great MORE vocalist Paul Mario Day,' they wrote on social media.
'Paul was a huge part of the [New Wave of British Heavy Metal] from his time in an early version of Iron Maiden and of course his fantastic performance on the 'Warhead' album.'
'He was a well loved figure in British rock music and played many memorable shows not least the legendary 1981 Monsters of Rock show at Castle Donington with AC/DC, Whitesnake/David Coverdale as well as tours with Iron Maiden Def Leppard and many other legendary artists.
'Mike Freeland remembers him fondly as a 'bloody great vocalist!'
'It's an honour for us to continue to play his music and we will always think of him every time we hit the opening notes to 'Warhead'.
'We send our deepest condolences to Paul's family and friends and also the many fans around the world who love his music.
'Play his music loud and sing along!

Paul Mario Day was recruited by bassist Steve Harris when he formed Iron Maiden in 1975.
Day was the band's first singer, and stayed with the band between 1975 and 1976 before being replaced by Dennis Wilcock.
Paul Di'Anno later took over from Wilcock, who would perform on the band's first two records.
Speaking to Blabbermouth in 2019, Day said of his Iron Maiden exit: 'Steve was saying, 'You've got to get better. You've got to be more in the audience's face. You've got to be commanding.
'You've got to be a hero.' And I agreed with him, but I didn't actually know how to make that happen.'
The singer said he was 'gutted' by the decision but he 'learnt a big lesson'.
He added: 'What Steve was doing was trying to make the band big. He knew what he wanted.
'What he wanted is what he got. He got one of the biggest bands on the planet. As much as it hurt, as much as it upset me, I learnt a big lesson that day. I really did. I used that emotion, I guess, in my singing.'
Day never returned to the band for any of their reunions and focused on performing with More.
The group skyrocketed to fame with their 1981 album Warhead and went on to perform at the 1981 Monsters Of Rock festival with fellow rock legends including AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Whitestnake.
Day also became the frontman for Wildfire between 1983 and 1984.
The following year he stepped in to sing for Sweet and band guitarist Andy Scott wrote in tribute: 'Mick Tucker and myself put together the first new line-up of Sweet after the hiatus of the original band.
'We needed a singer and when Paul arrived for the audition we looked no further.
'Our first dates were in Australia, total sellouts which boded well for the future. Europe followed suit and 3 sold out nights at the Marquee in London produced a live album, video and DVD.
''Live at the Marquee' did well in various charts around the world and Paul's vocal performance has stood the test of time.'
Day, born in London, has lived in Australia since 1986.

Tourism Australia launches new global ad starring Robert Irwin, Nigella Lawson
Robert Irwin has taken centre stage in a new multimillion-dollar Tourism Australia ad, spruiking the land Down Under to five countries around the world. Irwin, along with celebrity chef Nigella Lawson and the tourism board's animated mascot 'Ruby the Roo' appear in the next instalment of the campaign — which serves up a bunch of Aussie cliches while showing off the best of the country. The $130 million campaign — which will be rolled out in five key markets — uses famous faces tailored to each destination as a hook to grab potential visitors. For the UK, the use of British chef Lawson hopes to do the trick. Sara Tendulkar, who is the daughter of cricket legend Sachin, will be used in adverts in India. Other variations of the commercial will feature Yosh Yu in China, and comedian Abareru-kun in Japan. With plenty of 'G'day mates' and even a 'throw a shrimp on the barbie' catchphrase, the advertisement starts with a clueless American tourist who has lost his phone in the desert, only to be saved by Irwin in a 4WD. 'G'day mate, just going for a stroll?' Irwin says to the stranded tourist. 'An emu took my phone,' the defeated tourist replies on his hands and knees. 'Well, we better go find it,' Irwin says before the pair take off across the sand dunes. The commercial then cuts to the tourist who relays the story at home to a bartender in the US, describing his adventure Down Under like visiting 'another world'. The first instalment of the 'Come and Say G'Day' commercial rolled out in October 2022, with this next chapter hoping to expand on Australia's recovering international tourism figures — which are still not at pre-Covid levels. Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell said the previous take in 2022 with the introduction of Ruby the Roo as well as famous faces like Irwin and Lawson will make the ad 'a smash'. 'Tourism is the lifeblood of so many communities right around the country and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs,' Minister Farrell said in a statement. 'Come and Say G'day is bringing more visitors to our shores, creating more jobs and growing our economy.' Assistant Minister for Tourism Nita Green said the new chapter of 'Come and Say G'day' is 'energetic, funny and heartwarming' 'It highlights Australia's iconic places and the memories you can make by visiting them' she said. 'I can't wait to see the campaign launched across key markets, and bringing more visitors to every part of Australia.' Tourism Australian Managing Director Phillipa Harrison said the point of difference with this campaign is the rollout of different famous faces to spearhead different markets around the globe. 'Traditionally tourism campaigns have leveraged one famous face across every market but for our latest campaign Ruby will be joined by well-known talent from five different markets to showcase personal lasting memories of a holiday to Australia,' Harrison said. 'These international stars combine with local talent, including Australian actor Thomas Weatherall and Ruby the Kangaroo, to create bespoke invitations for five markets that are tailored for each country to showcase the sort of tourism experiences travellers are looking for.'

Prince Harry denies getting into bloody brawl with Prince Andrew over comments about Meghan Markle
Prince Harry hit back at claims he brawled with Prince Andrew over comments his uncle allegedly made about his relationship with Meghan Markle. 'I can confirm neither of those things are true,' a rep for Harry told Us Weekly in a statement on Sunday of the alleged altercation, which was said to have happened over a decade ago. 'Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.' Prince Harry's denial comes a day after the Daily Mail published an excerpt of Andrew Lownie's new book about Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. The passage alleged that Prince Andrew and the Duke of Sussex had a 'heated argument' in 2013 at a family event, and that words uttered 'behind Harry's back' led to violence. The book claimed that Andrew — who has himself been shunned by the royal family due to an alleged association with Jeffrey Epstein — predicted a swift end to their marriage and labelled Markle an 'opportunist.' The excerpt further alleged that 'punches were thrown' and that Andrew emerged from the fight with a bloody nose. Man falls to his death during Oasis concert at London's Wembley Stadium
A man in his 40s has died after falling at an Oasis concert at London's Wembley stadium, according to police. The band said its members were "shocked and saddened" after the man, who was understood to be sitting in the upper tier, fell to his death during the concert. London's Metropolitan Police said officers and paramedics responded to reports of an injured person "with injuries consistent with a fall". He was pronounced dead at the scene. "We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night," Oasis said in a statement. A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said "medics, the London ambulance service and the police attended to a concertgoer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall". "Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers." Police believe many people would have witnessed the incident and urged anyone who has information that could help to get in touch. "The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage," the police statement said. The Britpop icons' first tour in 16 years kicked off on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales. Saturday's concert was the fourth of Noel and Liam Gallagher's seven planned shows at Wembley, and a spokesperson for the stadium said the upcoming shows would go ahead as planned. The tour has sold about 900,000 tickets, with the group heading to Edinburgh next before its international leg takes it to the United States, Japan, Australia and Brazil. AFP/AP
