New Kia EV4 hatchback brings 388-mile range for £37,695

Auto Car01-07-2025
The new Kia EV4 hatchback will be priced from £34,695 when the first examples land in the UK this autumn.
Little changed from the concept shown in 2023, the EV4 shares its underpinnings with the smaller EV3 hatchback.
The EV4 will be offered with both hatchback and saloon bodies, with the former roughly as large as the Hyundai Kona Electric and the latter's stretched rump making it longer than the Tesla Model 3.
It will be sold primarily as a hatch in Europe, where it will be a natural rival to the Citroën ë-C4, Volkswagen ID 3 and Volvo EX40.

Both versions will be offered with a single front-mounted motor producing 201bhp, giving a 0-62mph in the mid-7.0sec range, depending on the chosen battery and trim level.
All Kia EVs are destined to receive hot GT versions, so a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive range-topper with power and pace to match the MG 4 EV XPower is expected down the line.
The entry-level EV4 gets a 58.3kWh battery pack that yields a range of 273 miles in hatch guise.
With an 81.4kWh battery (starting from £37,695), the hatch delivers 388 miles miles between charges.
A 10-80% charge takes at least 29 minutes for the smaller battery and at least 31 minutes for the larger one.
Inside, the EV4 gets the same 30in dashboard screen as the EV3, comprising two 12.3in segments for infotainment and instrumentation, divided by a 5.3in climate panel.

Car Deal of the Day: Bag a desirable plug-in hybrid BMW X3 M Sport for less than £380 a month

Great ride, handling and in-car technology Up to 54 miles electric range £378.31 per month on a three-year lease There's a huge number of mid-size SUVs out there on today's market, but very few can challenge a BMW X3 for driving experience or desirability. The looks may not appeal to everyone, but when a plug-in hybrid model in sporty M Sport trim can be leased for under £380 a month, most will be only too happy to squint a bit. This BMW X3 lease deal is from First Vehicle Leasing via the Auto Express Buy A Car service, and runs for three years. You'll have to find a £4,890 initial payment to set the ball rolling, before shelling out £378 a month. There's a 5,000-mile annual limit on this deal, and extending to a more realistic 8,000 miles takes the price to £408 per month. Go for a 10,000 limit and it's £428. Advertisement - Article continues below This is no ordinary X3, though. It's the xDrive 30e plug-in hybrid with petrol and electric power combining for a 295bhp output. The official WLTP combined electric range is 54 miles, so it will be perfectly possible for drivers with easy access to charging to travel on electric power most of the time. That equates to very low running costs. The car comes in BMW's appealing M Sport trim, which means 19-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara and brushed aluminium interior trim, firmer M Sport suspension, an M Sport steering wheel and black headlining. There's also gloss black trim on the exterior. That's on top of basic X3 features such as the latest BMW infotainment system – which we've been very impressed by on our tests – climate control, electric seats and a full suite of electronic driver aids. It all adds up to a truly desirable package that is tremendous value. A tariff fight has left Hyundai's Santa Cruz stranded, leaving dealers empty-handed and customers waiting for trucks parked just a few hours away. Accessible V8s are rare, but here's one of them In recent months, the V8 engine has had a bit of a revival. Dodge's CEO hinted that the Hemi V8 would be returning to the new Charger, while Jeep will be expanding the availability of its V8 across its range. Before that, Ram reintroduced the V8 engine option for its 1500 pickup. What hasn't changed is that the average V8-powered vehicle is pretty pricey to buy. That brings us to the subject of this piece: If you want a practical SUV but are desperate for the roar of a V8, what's the cheapest model you can buy, and how much is it? 2026 Dodge Durango GT Is The Cheapest V8 SUV Dodge just announced that the Hemi V8 engine is now standard across the entire 2026 Durango lineup, replacing the previous V6 on lower trims. With an MSRP of $42,495, that makes the 2026 Dodge Durango GT the cheapest V8-powered SUV you can buy right now—pictured above is the 2025 Durango GT, as Dodge hasn't yet shared images of the updated GT. By providing your email address, you agree that it may be used pursuant to Arena Group's Privacy Policy. We may receive compensation. The GT has a slightly detuned version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, but it still packs a punch with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque; that's 22% more power and 50% more torque than the previous V6. Not only does it sound a lot better, but the 0-60 time drops from 7.4 to 6.2 seconds. For even more power, the Durango R/T produces 475 hp and 470 lb-ft from its Hemi V8, and still costs under $50,000. Nothing else in the segment comes close to that kind of power. Most three-row rivals have turbo-fours or V6s making under 300 hp. Mazda will sell you a 340-horsepower I6 version of its CX-90, but that costs over $50k. A Practical SUV With Cool Styling Source: Stellantis Not only is the base Durango GT quicker than its rivals, but it's also practical and not boring to look at, despite how long it has been around. It has 33.5 inches of third-row legroom, which is not class-leading but fine for kids. The cargo area behind the third row measures 17.2 cubic feet, rising to 43.3 cubic feet behind the second row. Dodge hasn't yet released the full specification sheet for 2026 Durangos, but it should at least match the 2025 model. For the GT, expect LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels. The 2025 model had a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, three-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats with heating, and the user-friendly UConnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Dealer orders for the cheapest 2026 Durango (and the SRT Hellcat with 710 hp) have already opened, and these models will arrive at dealerships in the fourth quarter. Orders for the R/T will open later in the year. Final Thoughts Source: Stellantis The cheapest Dodge Durango is not the best vehicle in its class. If you want something more luxurious, get a Mazda CX-90. Models like the Toyota Grand Highlander and Kia Telluride are more practical and come with a more generous list of features, while incorporating more modern interfaces. But none of these three-row rivals are nearly as fun or refreshingly old-school as the Durango GT V8. That Hemi V8 adds a level of driver appeal and performance that's largely missing in this segment and at this price point, and as long as you're okay with the relatively high fuel bills, the 2026 Durango is easily the enthusiast's choice in this class. ChatGPT answers humans through Telex message machine in Amberley

Historians at a museum have connected a 50-year-old Telex machine to modern day artificial intelligence (AI), creating "a conversation spanning decades".Telex was a message transfer service where text would be typed into one machine and printed out on the recipient' users of the machine at Amberley Museum, in West Sussex, will not get a response from another human, instead it will be ChatGPT answering their museum said visitors had been testing out the new machine, which was built "thanks to the ingenuity" of volunteer David Waters. Users can type in questions and receive a printed response from ChatGPT - an AI chatbot.A spokesperson for the museum said: "The experience begins by using a rotary dial to make the initial connection, creating an unforgettable meeting of communication technologies separated by half a century."They said the project "perfectly captures the spirit of Amberley Museum - celebrating our technological past while engaging with the innovations of today."It's a conversation across decades."
