October Summit: ASEAN logistics aims for higher bar
Head of the Secretariat Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the team would use a comprehensive post-event evaluation of the recently concluded summit and related meetings, held from May 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, as a blueprint to refine future preparations.
'Honestly, I am very satisfied because everything we planned over the past five months has fully materialised.
'But the real challenge lies ahead in October. We've already tested our capabilities and coordination with various agencies. Now, our focus is on identifying our weaknesses and improving them,' he said when featured on Bernama TV's special programme on ASEAN Summit 2025 tonight.
One of the key hurdles, Raja Saifful noted, was presenting Malaysia's identity as a multiracial, peaceful, and tolerant nation, grounded in the MADANI principles - a national development philosophy championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - to the broader ASEAN community.
'We wanted to carry the Prime Minister's aspirations onto the ASEAN stage, including through the (ASEAN 2025) logo. That's why we featured blue, red, and yellow - the colours that not only represent ASEAN, but also Malaysia,' he explained.
Raja Saifful also underscored ASEAN's central role in Malaysia's foreign policy, particularly in terms of contributing to regional economic growth and stability through a wide range of collaborative initiatives.
The ASEAN Summit, which drew leaders and high-level delegations from ASEAN and partner countries, was held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
This year marks Malaysia's fifth term as ASEAN Chair, following previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

The Sarawak Premier said this commitment was signified by the 24th Asean-China senior officials' meeting on the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (SOM-DOC), taking place here from Aug 11 to 14. "We are deeply honoured to host this important meeting here in Kuching. "The Sarawak government is proud to be part of Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean in 2025 and will always be firmly committed to advancing our nation's efforts," he said at a state gala dinner in conjunction with the meeting on Wednesday (Aug 13) night. Abang Johari said Asean member states shared a responsibility to ensure that the South China Sea remains a place of peace and prosperity. In this regard, he said, history had recorded the significance of the non-alignment policy emerging from the Bandung Conference in 1955, which led to the concept of Zopfan (Zone of Peace, Freedom and Neutrality). "I believe the spirit of Zopfan is still prevailing and present in Asean," he added. Amran said the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea was adopted by Asean and China in 2002, while negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) began in 2018. He said these efforts reaffirmed both parties' commitment to respect international law, build trust and confidence among partners, resolve disputes by peaceful means and exercise self-restraint. He added that the Code of Conduct would be a set of rules governing relations and cooperation with regard to the South China Sea. "All these stem from our collective need to promote a peaceful, friendly and harmonious environment in the South China Sea for the better enhancement of peace, stability, economic growth and prosperity in our region and beyond. "Therefore, we senior officials and delegates from Asean and China convened in Kuching this week to continue our work towards full implementation of the DOC and to move forward the negotiations towards the finalisation of the COC," Amran said.

Asean-China SOM talks aim to fast-track South China Sea COC negotiations
KUCHING: The Asean-China Senior Officials' Meeting on the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), scheduled here tomorrow, will also serve as a key platform to accelerate negotiations towards finalising a Code of Conduct (COC) for the disputed waters. Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin said the main focus of the meeting is to ensure all parties continue to respect the principles agreed under the DOC, which form the foundation of good relations in the region. "In addition, the meeting will intensify negotiations to finalise the South China Sea Code of Conduct with a target of completion by or before July 2026. "We need to step up negotiations more aggressively and proactively so that the COC draft can be finalised according to schedule," he said after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today. He said the gathering, which brings together senior officials from Asean member states and China, is also part of efforts to strengthen regional ties and cooperation. "The discussions will focus on measures to ensure peace, security and prosperity in Southeast Asia. "The South China Sea has increasingly become the focus of international attention, not only for Asean and China but also for countries outside the region. "Therefore, close cooperation is essential to maintain stability," Amran added. In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said the meeting aims to further enhance the implementation of the DOC, signed on Nov 4, 2002 by Asean member states and China.
