October Summit: ASEAN logistics aims for higher bar
KUALA LUMPUR: The Main Logistics Secretariat for ASEAN 2025 is determined to raise the bar for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October this year, following the successful execution of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which concluded today.
Head of the Secretariat Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the team would use a comprehensive post-event evaluation of the recently concluded summit and related meetings, held from May 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, as a blueprint to refine future preparations.
'Honestly, I am very satisfied because everything we planned over the past five months has fully materialised.
'But the real challenge lies ahead in October. We've already tested our capabilities and coordination with various agencies. Now, our focus is on identifying our weaknesses and improving them,' he said when featured on Bernama TV's special programme on ASEAN Summit 2025 tonight.
One of the key hurdles, Raja Saifful noted, was presenting Malaysia's identity as a multiracial, peaceful, and tolerant nation, grounded in the MADANI principles - a national development philosophy championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - to the broader ASEAN community.
'We wanted to carry the Prime Minister's aspirations onto the ASEAN stage, including through the (ASEAN 2025) logo. That's why we featured blue, red, and yellow - the colours that not only represent ASEAN, but also Malaysia,' he explained.
Raja Saifful also underscored ASEAN's central role in Malaysia's foreign policy, particularly in terms of contributing to regional economic growth and stability through a wide range of collaborative initiatives.
The ASEAN Summit, which drew leaders and high-level delegations from ASEAN and partner countries, was held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
This year marks Malaysia's fifth term as ASEAN Chair, following previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

We anticipate providing further updates as developments unfold,' Fernandes said. In the first quarter ended March 31 (1Q25), Capital A posted a net profit of RM689.6mil, or earnings per share of 15.90, compared with a net loss of RM91.5mil, or loss per share of 2.20 in the year-ago quarter. Revenue for the quarter rose 15.2% to RM414.5mil against RM359.8mil last year. Fernandes said plans are taking shape for the brand company, Abc., to further grow its existing brands, expand its portfolio through acquiring strong Asean brands, and provide consultancy services to international brands seeking to enter the region. 'With our more than two decades of brand-building experience in Asean, we believe there is a lot of value to be unlocked, the only way we know how. We plan to revisit the opportunity to list Abc. on Nasdaq. 'I'm confident 2025 will be a defining year for Capital A.' Meanwhile, Capital A is now close to finalising a RM1bil private placement. However, it must first secure consent from two remaining aircraft lessors and obtain clearance from Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the latter of which has experienced delays. 'As a result, the overall timeline is expected to shift, with completion now targeted by 3Q25,' it said.

PM Anwar: Malaysia invites Myanmar conflict groups for dialogue in Kuala Lumpur
SINGAPORE — Malaysia has taken the initiative to invite different groups in the Myanmar conflict for a dialogue in Kuala Lumpur in a bid to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He noted that ASEAN leaders have continued to push for an extended ceasefire and the protection of all humanitarian aid workers. 'If the elections are fair and more inclusive and do not exclude parties, then of course, we are ready to accept, although (the process) may not be perfect,' he added. Also present at the gathering were Deputy Head of Mission at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo Anwar Udzir and embassy staff. The session was attended by 38 participants, including 11 members of the Malaysian diaspora and 27 students from various universities in and around Tokyo.
