
Cat Financial Announces Second-Quarter 2025 Results
Second-quarter 2025 profit before income taxes was $183 million, an increase of $201 million compared with an $18 million loss in the second quarter of 2024. The increase was mainly driven by the absence of a $210 million loss on divestiture of a non-U.S. entity in 2024 and a favorable impact from higher average earning assets of $20 million, partially offset by higher provision for credit losses of $13 million and an unfavorable impact from lower margin of $10 million.
The provision for income taxes for the second quarter of 2025 was $45 million on $183 million profit before income taxes compared with $47 million on $18 million loss before income taxes for the second quarter of 2024. The effective tax rate for the second quarter of 2024 was negatively impacted by the loss on divestiture of a non-U.S. entity with no related tax benefit.
During the second quarter of 2025, retail new business volume was $3.60 billion, an increase of $187 million, or 5%, compared with $3.41 billion in the second quarter of 2024. The increase was primarily driven by higher volume in the Power, EAME and North America segments.
At the end of the second quarter of 2025, past dues at Cat Financial were 1.62%, compared with 1.74% at the end of the second quarter of 2024. Write-offs, net of recoveries, were $18 million for both the second quarter of 2025 and the second quarter of 2024. As of June 30, 2025, Cat Financial's allowance for credit losses totaled $290 million, or 0.94% of finance receivables, compared with $282 million or 0.95% of finance receivables at March 31, 2025. The allowance for credit losses at year-end 2024 was $267 million, or 0.91% of finance receivables.

The zone hosts 1.2 km of outcropping mineralization and returned historical production of 41,000 oz at 26 g/t before World War II halted mining. Targets at Caledonia and other regional zones are also in development. On the North Island, drill access applications have now been submitted for RUA's Glamorgan project in the Hauraki Goldfield—home to the 10 Moz Martha mine. Glamorgan's 4 km gold-arsenic anomaly has been refined using CSAMT surveys and VRIFY's DORA AI engine, with drilling expected to begin in Q4. Nova Minerals Limited (NASDAQ: NVA) has released new metallurgical test results from its RPM deposit at the Estelle Gold Project, showing strong recoveries using a combined flowsheet approach. Ore sorting achieved a 4.33x grade increase—from 1.32 g/t to 5.72 g/t—in a single pass, while heap leach tests on lower-grade material delivered gold recoveries up to 68.7%. "We are extremely pleased with the results emerging from our ongoing metallurgical test work program at the RPM Deposit, which we believe continues to demonstrate the exceptional quality and scalability of the Estelle Project," said Christopher Gerteisen, CEO of Nova Minerals. "The ability to extract up to 68.7% gold recovery from lower-grade material through heap leaching, combined with a 4.33 times upgrade using ore sorting technology, is a significant technical breakthrough, in our opinion. (TSXV: CERT) (OTCQX: CRDOF) recently announced it had produced 11,437 gold equivalent ounces at its Minera Don Nicolás Mine in Q2 2025, with underground development at the Paloma pit now underway and expected to ramp up in H2. Canada's trade deficit widened to $5.9-billion in June, second highest on record
Canada's merchandise trade deficit widened in June to $5.9-billion as imports grew faster than exports due to a one-time high-value oil equipment import, data showed on Tuesday. The deficit observed in June is the second highest on record after the deficit dipped to its largest in history in April to $7.6-billion. Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted the trade deficit to widen to $6.3-billion in June from a downwardly revised $5.5-billion in May. Total imports were up 1.4 per cent in June to $67.6-billion from a drop of 1.6 per cent in the prior month, Statistics Canada said, adding that excluding the one-time product import which was from the U.S. for an offshore oil project, total imports were down 1.9 per cent in June. The increase in total imports in June was mainly led by a 2.6 per cent increase in imports from the U.S. due to the import of a module for an offshore oil project, the statistics agency said. This was the first increase in imports after three consecutive monthly decreases, data showed. The Canadian dollar slightly weakened further after the data and was trading down 0.2 per cent to 1.3804 against the U.S. dollar, or 72.44 U.S. cents. Yields on the two-year government bonds were up 0.6 basis points to 2.703 per cent.
