Jeff Bezos is said to be planning a lavish Venice wedding. But it might not have the best view in town
Venice is set to be the stage for the highly anticipated nuptials between multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos and his bride-to-be Lauren Sanchez, according to multiple media reports, but even one of the world's richest people may face a struggle to access the best views in town.
The three-day celebrations are reported to be starting around June 26 and will take place on Bezos' $500-million superyacht, Koru, which will be anchored in the Venice lagoon.
While that may sound like a dream wedding location, restrictions on large ships getting too close to Venice's historic St. Mark's square may impede the view.
Bezos' yacht, at 3,493 gross tons, is far below the 25,000 gross ton maximum for vessels entering the Venice lagoon, but it's too large to be allowed anywhere near the Grand Canal, the Italian city's most scenic waterway.
While no details of the ceremony have been confirmed by Bezos or his fiancée — CNN reached out but didn't get a response — several luxury accommodation venues appear poised for an influx of guests over the purported wedding dates.
The city's five major luxury hotels along the Grand Canal, including the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, the St. Regis Venis, the Gritti Palace, the Hotel Danieli and the luxurious Grand Aman Hotel, where George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin celebrated their wedding in 2014, are all almost entirely booked for the last weekend of June, according to calls to the hotels made by CNN.
The hotels would not confirm the occasion or if large blocks of rooms had been reserved.
Venice's exclusive fleet of private water taxis, including the 'Amore' famously used by Clooney and Alamuddin to leave the wedding venue, have also been tentatively reserved, according to the Venice water taxi cooperative.
During the Clooney-Alamuddin wedding, VIP guests were ferried in open-water taxis along the Grand Canal as thousands of well wishers and paparazzi stood on the city's bridges to watch the spectacle yelling 'auguri' or best wishes. It's not clear if there will be the same public viewing opportunities for the Bezos celebrations.
Other details are thin on the ground. The Venice gondola association did not report an uptick in June reservations. Harry's Bar, one of the most famous spots in the city, would not comment if it would be a venue for any side events.
A spokesperson for the city of Venice could not confirm news of the event, but did say the couple would need to apply for a marriage license well in advance if they were to wed in Italian waters. Some news reports suggest their official ceremony will take place prior to the Venetian event.
Bezos popped the question with a 30-karat diamond ring in 2023 and held an engagement party off the Amalfi Coast near Positano on board his yacht, with Bill Gates, Ari Emanuel, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan and Kris Jenner as guests. Bezos' superyacht is a regular feature off Italy's picturesque coast during the summer months.
Before marrying the world's third richest man, Sanchez, a journalist and aviation expert, will lead her fiancé's Blue Origin NS-31 space mission with six high-profile women, including herself, Katy Perry and Gayle Young, scheduled for March 31, 2025. Sanchez was so inspired by space flight, she penned a children's book, 'The Fly Who Flew to Space,' in September 2024.

Respondents held a dim view of both parties, even as 58% said that the government should do more to solve problems – a record high in over 30 years of the network's polling. The network reported that respondents were split on if either party represented the middle class, with a third saying neither did. Republicans saw a seven-point advantage over Democrats on handling the economy, the narrowest lead on the issue in the polling since 2022 and lost over half of their advantage on immigration, falling from a 14-point lead in November 2023 to a six-point lead in the new poll. The poll was conducted by SSRS online or by phone from May 5-26 among 2,539 adults across the country using a combination of online and telephone interviews. Here's what else the poll found. This is likely the dizzying view forced on crypto kidnapping victim Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan when he was allegedly dangled over a five-story staircase while being tortured for his Bitcoin password. Real estate photos of the eight-bedroom $21 million-dollar townhouse on Prince Street in SoHo where authorities said Carturan, 28, was abused and held captive for 17 days show the spiral, multi-level plunge he is believed to have faced during the harrowing ordeal. The native of Italy, who is worth $30 million, suffered serious injuries in the horrific episode, during which Manhattan prosecutors alleged he was tied to a chair with electrical wire, tased while standing in water, cut on his legs and arm with a chainsaw, urinated on and forced to take drugs. His accused tormentors — crypto entrepreneur John Woeltz and Swiss business man William Duplessie — also allegedly destroyed Carturan's passport. Carturan was rescued after he fled the townhouse barefoot on May 23 and flagged down a traffic cop for help. The former captive has already contacted the Italian consulate on the Upper East Side in order to get a new passport, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported. 'Only on Saturday did the first contacts take place between the family (who said little or nothing keeping the conditions and the account of what happened confidential) and the Italian Foreign Ministry,' according to the outlet. His family owns a herbalist shop, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. Carturan was living in Rivoli, a town in the city of Turin in northern Italy, with his family before venturing to the Big Apple on May 6 to meet Woeltz, according to authorities and sources. He had studied psychology before dropping out of school to trade crypto, the Italian press reported. He was apparently hoping to retrieve Bitcoin allegedly stolen from him by Woeltz and Duplessie, who then turned the tables, took him captive and threatened to kill him and his family unless he gave them the password to his bitcoin wallet, prosecutors said. Woeltz, 37, of Kentucky, is believed to be worth $100 million. Polaroids that were found at the property showed Carturan — who reportedly has a net worth of $30 million — with a gun pointed at his head and being forced to smoke crack cocaine, authorities said. The pair are due in court June 11.
