Vietnam approves Trump Organisation's $1.5 bn golf and real estate project

Vietnam has approved a $1.5 billion proposal by the Trump Organisation and its Vietnamese partner to build golf courses, hotels and real estate projects in the Southeast Asian country, state-run media reported Friday.
The project spanning 990 hectares (2,446 acres) in northern Vietnam's Khoai Chau district will include a golf course the size 336 American football fields, residential areas, commercial spaces and parks. The decision approving the investment was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the VN Express newspaper reported.
Vietnam is heading into negotiations with the US in a bid to avoid the 46% tariffs on its exports announced by President Donald Trump's administration. Vietnam also has been facing heat from Washington for not doing enough to prevent the diversion of Chinese goods through its borders.
The investment project was announced by Vietnamese real estate developer Kinhbac City, which partnered with Trump's family business in October.
Work on the project will start this year and continue till 2029.
The Trump Organisation did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

Middle East crisis: US shuts Jerusalem embassy; no evacuation for Americans announced

US Embassy in Jerusalem The United States will shut its embassy in Jerusalem from Wednesday through Friday as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies, the State Department announced on Tuesday. 'Given the security situation and in compliance with Israel Home Front Command guidance, the US Embassy in Jerusalem will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday, June 18) through Friday (June 20). This includes the Consular Sections in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv,' the department said in a statement posted on X. — TravelGov (@TravelGov) The decision comes as military tensions continue to escalate between Iran and Israel, now in their sixth day of open conflict. Loud explosions were heard in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as missiles flew overhead, with video footage showing several strikes in residential areas. On Monday, minor damage was reported at the US Embassy's Tel Aviv branch after missile impacts nearby, according to the US Ambassador to Israel. 'Some minor damage from concussions of Iranian missile hits near embassy branch in Tel Aviv but no injuries to US personnel,' the ambassador confirmed. Windows of nearby homes and hotels were shattered by the blast's shockwaves. No evacuation has been announced for American citizens in the region. However, embassy officials said, 'all US government employees and their family members [must] continue to shelter in place in and near their residences until further notice.' The closures come amid growing speculation about a potential American military response. US President Donald Trump convened a meeting with his National Security Council on Tuesday after publicly calling for Iran's 'unconditional surrender.' He also warned that the US could assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei if it chose to. A Reuters report revealed that Trump had recently vetoed an Israeli plan to carry out such an assassination. 'Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do we're not even talking about going after the political leadership,' a senior US official was quoted as saying. Despite the ongoing crisis, the US has yet to make any formal announcement about evacuating citizens or engaging in direct military retaliation.

Rupee set to plumb to 2-month low at open on fears over oil-spurred outflows

MUMBAI (Reuters) -The Indian rupee is set to open weaker on Wednesday, nearing a two-month low, weighed down by rising crude oil prices amid escalating Iran-Israel tensions and concerns over outflows. The 1-month non-deliverable forward indicated a open in the 86.38-86.42 range, versus 86.24 in the previous session. The unit had already breached a support level on Tuesday, and traders said the bias remains firmly on the downside. Brent crude futures climbed over 4% on Tuesday, with the rally holding firm through the Asian session on Wednesday, amid concerns that the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict could disrupt supplies. The conflict has now entered its sixth day and anxiety is building over the risk of direct U.S. military involvement. U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday demanded Iran's unconditional surrender. In a further development, three U.S. officials said Washington is deploying more fighter aircraft to the region to strengthen its military forces. A prolonged conflict "raises the odds of oil staying bid", and that's "structurally bearish for Indian assets", leading to outflows, a currency trader at a Mumbai-based bank said. He expects 86.50 to act an initial support zone, with markets staying alert to potential dollar sales by the Reserve Bank of India around that level, he said. High oil prices tend to weigh on the Indian rupee due to the country's dependence on crude imports. A rise in oil directly increases the demand for dollars from oil companies and leads to a deterioration in the trade balance. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve's policy decision on Wednesday will be in focus alongside developments in the Middle East. While the Fed is widely expected to keep rates unchanged, market attention will be on any signs around the timing and extent of future rate cuts. BofA Global Research expects the Fed's 2025 dot plot to shift higher, with the median projection rising by 25 basis points from the March estimate of 3.875%. ** One-month non-deliverable rupee forward at 86.46; onshore one-month forward premium at 8.5 paise ** Dollar index down at 98.7 ** Brent crude futures at $76.4 per barrel ** Ten-year U.S. note yield at 4.4% ** As per NSDL data, foreign investors sold a net $307.8mln worth of Indian shares on June 16 ** NSDL data shows foreign investors bought a net $32.4mln worth of Indian bonds on June 16 (Reporting by Nimesh Vora; Editing by Sonia Cheema)

Stocks to buy under ₹100: Experts recommend four shares to buy today — 18 June 2025

Stocks to buy under ₹ 100: After rising for two straight sessions, the Indian stock market paused and finished lower on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 index ended 92 points lower at 24,853, the BSE Sensex finished 212 points lower at 81,583, while the Bank Nifty index lost 230 points and closed at 55,714. The Nifty Mid-cap and the Nifty Small-cap Indices underperformed the benchmark, where the Nifty Mid-cap 100 Index fell by 0.66%, while the Nifty Small-cap 100 Index corrected by 0.69%. Market breadth remained weak for the fourth consecutive day, with declining stocks outpacing advancing ones, as indicated by a BSE advance-decline ratio of 0.60. Sectorally, it was a sea of red, except for the Nifty IT sector, which managed to stay in positive territory. The Nifty Pharma, Healthcare, Metal, and Consumer Durables indices were among the major losers. The Nifty Pharma Index took a hit, falling nearly 2% following warnings from US President Donald Trump about imminent tariffs on pharmaceutical imports. Speaking on the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Shiju Kuthupalakkal, Senior Manager of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, said, "The Nifty 50 index, after witnessing a significant pullback in the last two sessions, found resistance near the 25,000 zone and with profit booking seen witnessed a gradual slide to end near the 24,850 level with bias and sentiment maintained with a cautious approach as of now. As mentioned earlier, the index would have the crucial support zone near the 24,500 zones and would need a decisive move above the 25,200 level to trigger a fresh further rise in the coming days." "The Bank Nifty index succumbed to profit booking during the session and slipped as the day progressed to close near the 55700 level, once again finding resistance near the 56000 zone, a crucial resistance zone. The index has been precariously placed and would need a decisive move above the 56000 zone to turn the bias positive. At the same time, we would need to sustain the near-term support positioned near the 55000 level to maintain the overall trend intact," Shiju Kuthupalakkal of Prabhudas Lilladher said. Regarding intraday stocks for today, market experts — Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher; Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investment and Securities; and Mahesh M Ojha, AVP — Research at Hensex Securities — recommended buying these three stocks: Medico Remedies, Imagicaaworld Entertainment, and Balmer Lawrie Investments. 1] Medico Remedies: Buy at ₹ 48.50, Target ₹ 53, Stop Loss ₹ 46. 2] Balmer Lawrie Investments: Buy at ₹ 80 to ₹ 81, Targets ₹ 83.50, ₹ 85, ₹ 88, ₹ 90, Stop Loss ₹ 78. 3] Imagicaaworld Entertainment: Buy at ₹ 68.40, Target ₹ 71.50, Stop Loss ₹ 67.
