Edmonton to have Pride Parade for first time since 2018
For the first time since 2018, Edmonton will have a Pride Parade this summer.
'After a hiatus, we're thrilled to bring Edmonton's Pride Parade back to city streets this summer,' said Trevor Watson, executive director of the Edmonton PrideFest Association, in an announcement Wednesday morning.
The Edmonton Pride Festival will take over downtown Edmonton Aug. 22-24, including a 18+ concert and party on Friday, the parade on Saturday, and a brunch sing-along on Sunday with drag queens Alaska 5000 and Willam.
'We're looking forward to showing up loud and proud to celebrate our 2SLGBTQ+ friends, family, coworkers and community members. This is a chance for Edmontonians to come together as a community and celebrate the electrifying experience of Pride,' Watson said.
Organizers of the 2019 parade cancelled the event amid calls for increased inclusivity from community groups. Smaller Pride celebrations have been held since then.

Interested in fostering a pup destined to change a life?
COPE Service Dogs welcomed a new litter of purpose-bred puppies, each one destined to change a life. (Courtesy: Liz Saul) COPE Service Dogs welcomed a new litter of purpose-bred puppies, each one destined to change a life. These special pups are preparing to begin their journey toward becoming fully certified service dogs. COPE is reaching out to the Barrie community in search of five loving foster homes. Being a foster family for a service dog in training is more than just providing care. To be eligible, COPE is looking for homes that meet the following criteria: You are a dog lover, you live in the Barrie area, you can ensure that someone is home during the day to watch your pup. You are also required to attend weekly training sessions. If this sounds like you or someone you know, COPE is asking to hear from you. These puppies aren't just pets, they're future service animals who could help individuals with mobility challenges gain greater independence and quality of life. People can contact Helen to learn more or to express your interest in fostering. COPE's History COPE's story began in 2000, when founder Jane Boake established the organization near Barrie. Her training at the Assistance Dog Institute inspired her to bring this work to Canada. COPE's programs empower both people and dogs most notably through initiatives like Canines in the Classroom, which began in a Stayner basement and now spans several schools across the region. As these new puppies begin their training journey, they need stable, nurturing homes to help lay the foundation for their future success. COPE says they are working towards their future goal of developing chapters in other communities, and expanding the range of disabilities that may be supported by these special animals. I saw Metric in Toronto, then watched the livestream: Which is better
Reviews and recommendations are unbiased and products are independently selected. Postmedia may earn an affiliate commission from purchases made through links on this page. Article content Canadians have always had a significant impact on the music industry, but one of my favourite eras has to be the indie resurgence of the early to mid-2000s. Artists like Arcade Fire, Bedouin Soundclash, Feist, Hot Hot Heat and Broken Social Scene were on heavy rotation on my iPod Nano at the time, and I'm happy to report that many of these bands are still touring today. Article content Article content Toronto-based Metric is one such group currently on tour, and they recently performed at Budweiser Stage for a retrospective of their 2009 Juno Award-winning album Fantasies. I was at the show in person, but if you missed the event, there's still a way to watch from home. Article content Article content Metric live in Toronto Article content I've seen Metric live before, but it's been more than a decade since I attended one of their concerts. This time I was seated in section 301, which at the Budweiser Stage venue is about halfway between the stage and the rear lawn section, and a little to the right. Tickets for the show ranged in price from $55 – $315 per person. Article content Article content The concert kicked off with opening performances by The Dears (a new-to-me artist) and Sam Roberts Band (another Canadian act that made it big in the early aughts), both of which were a great way to start the evening. For me, however, Metric was the biggest draw. I was just about to graduate from high school when the album Fantasies was released, so the concert was a unique opportunity to transport myself back in time and do a little reminiscing.
