Ireland win by six wickets
Ireland Women produced a strong display to beat Zimbabwe Women by six wickets in their opening Twenty20 International at Sydney Parade in Dublin.
Captain Gaby Lewis won the toss and opted to bowl first, with the hosts making a good start as Orla Prendergast claimed a wicket in the third ball of the innings.
Zimbabwe wickets continued to tumble as Cara Murray claimed three of them, Arlene Kelly two and debutant Lara McBride got one to get Llyod Tennant's side off to a flying start.
The tourists ended 117-9 which Ireland managed to chase down by the 17th over having lost just four wickets of their own in a fine batting display.
Lewis made 67, becoming the first woman to pass 4,000 runs across all formats for Ireland in the process.
Further history was made by 19-year-old Amy Hunter, whose nine runs helped her pass 1,000 in T20 internationals for her country.
Ireland will look to win the three-match series in the second T20 international which takes place on Tuesday.

Devlin appointed Louth football manager
Gavin Devlin has been appointed Louth senior football manager on a three-year term. The Tyrone native takes over from Ger Brennan who guided the Wee County to this year's Leinster title. Devlin previously served as Mickey Harte's assistant in Louth from 2021 until 2023, having assisted his former manager in Tyrone after winning two All-Irelands with the Red Hands as a player in 2003 and 2005. Advertisement Following a difficult 2024 season for the pair in Derry, the Ardboe man took up the role as Louth's Underage Director of Football and served as coach for the county's minor team, which also won Leinster honours this year. Devlin will be assisted by Peter Dooley, who was a coach in Brennan's backroom team over the past three years. "We are delighted to welcome Gavin and Peter into their new leadership roles with the Louth senior footballers," said Louth chair Sean McClean. "Both men have a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for Louth football. Gavin and Peter's deep understanding of our player pathway and talent in the county gives us a great combination for the future. "This appointment represents a continued commitment to building on our recent progress and driving Louth forward at all levels."

Packers sign rookie kicker and Ireland native Mark McNamee as IPP player
The Green Bay Packers have a new kicker and International Player Pathway Program player. The team announced the signing of rookie kicker Mark McNamee, a native of Ireland who will replace Alex Hale -- who was released on Monday -- as the backup kicker and international player on the 91-player offseason roster on Tuesday. The Packers start training camp on Wednesday and needed a backup kicker behind veteran Brandon McManus. Advertisement McNamee (6-4, 208) was previously a goalkeeper in Gaelic football in Dublin, Ireland. He got a chance to work at the NFL Scouting Combine as part of the International Player Pathway Program and made 13 of 14 field goal attempts. McNamee was most recently a member of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Despite making both of his field goal attempts during the preseason, McNamee was released by the Lions on June 1. McNamee is replacing Hale, an Australian native who was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list to start training camp after suffering an eye injury. It's possible the Packers are giving McNamee a chance to showcase his talent while Hale recovers and will then make a decision between the two once Hale is healthy again. The Packers also announced the signing of rookie wide receiver Will Sheppard, an undrafted free agent out of Colorado. The move was first reported on Monday.
