RCB vs PBKS Ahmedabad Weather Forecast IPL 2025 Final: Will inclement rain delay crowning of first-time champions?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are gearing up for a high-stakes IPL final, both aiming to break their long-standing title drought. Despite being part of the league since its inception, neither franchise has managed to lift the coveted trophy—making this clash a golden opportunity to finally rewrite their history. The two teams finished in the top two after the league stage, with Punjab leading the charts with 19 points and Bengaluru right behind them with the same points but an inferior Net Run Rate. However, the win in Qualifier 1 will give Rajat Patidar and Co. a big boost over Punjab Kings, whom they have already beaten twice this season. However, the weather forecast might hamper both teams' plans, as it doesn't look all that pleasant at the moment. According to AccuWeather, there's a 66 per cent chance of rain in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon, casting some concern over the final for both teams and their fans. Temperatures are likely to hover around a sweltering 38 degree Celsius with high humidity levels. However, conditions are expected to ease by evening, with rain chances dropping to just 5 per cent. Despite that, a lingering 33 per cent cloud cover could still keep both camps on edge. Meanwhile, according to the IPL Final conditions, an additional hour to the playtime, extending the duration to 120 minutes and having a reserve day in the final are the measures in place to ensure the contest is completed. Rain had also disrupted the start of the PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2, causing a delayed kickoff. However, once the match got underway, there were no further interruptions, and Punjab Kings delivered a commanding performance to secure their spot in the final. Iyer, who had led Kolkata Knight Riders to a title triumph in 2024, produced a stunning 41-ball unbeaten 87 against MI as Punjab Kings reached their first final in 11 years. RCB and PBKS have already clashed three times this season. Punjab Kings took the upper hand in their first meeting, but RCB bounced back emphatically, winning the next two encounters—most notably a dominant performance in Qualifier 1 that will have boosted their confidence.

BCCI breaks silence on retiring Virat Kohli's No. 18 Test jersey after Mukesh Kumar's act triggered hate

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reacted on Monday to the recent social media furore over Mukesh Kumar donning Virat Kohli's iconic No. 18 jersey during the India A match against the England Lions at the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury. The Indian board also opened up on whether they would retire Kohli's jersey, just like it was done for Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. During India A's first four-day unofficial Test match against the England Lions, Mukesh was spotted wearing the No. 18 jersey, pictures of which went instantly viral on the internet. Fans were left enraged, with the India fast bowler being bombarded with hate messages. They also lashed out at the BCCI for allowing it, saying it was an act of "disrespect" towards the former India captain, who retired from the traditional format earlier last month. Speaking to the PTI, a senior BCCI official in the know of things explained that while a player can opt for any jersey number during an India A match, his/her kit number during an international game will remain the same as it was before. This implied that Mukesh, who has not been picked for the Test series against England, if selected for the contest, his jersey number would be 49, the one he wore during his senior team debut in the West Indies. "Mukesh wore No. 18 during the opening 'Test' match versus Lions. But when it comes to India A squad, there are no fixed numbers as jerseys don't have names. Anyone can pick any random number. The jersey numbers are only sacrosanct for international games," the official said. While Kohli remains an active international player in the 50-over format, the PTI report hinted that it is understood that, just like Sachin (jersey No. 10) and Dhoni (jersey No. 7), no new player coming into the Test team would like to bear the burden of a legacy number. India will see two debutants—B Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh—during the five-match series against England, which begins on June 20. However, the report said that the jersey numbers allotted to them are different. In India, there are no formal ways to retire a jersey, but there are instances where famous numbers aren't worn by players who come later into the team. Although Shardul Thakur did face flak when he donned Sachin's No. 10 jersey during his ODI debut in Sri Lanka, he was forced to change his number amid the rage of the fans. However, when it came to Dhoni, no one else wore No. 7 after he retired from international cricket.
