1. Jackson Cantwell to Oregon
When Cantwell moved his commitment date up to April 30 it was a signal that he was much closer to deciding his school choice than we anticipated. But when he only moved his Oregon official visit up to April 26-27 that was a great sign for the Ducks.

Cantwell has a tremendous relationship with coach Dan Lanning and has told Rivals that Lanning is probably his favorite head coach. Lanning has deep ties to Missouri and went to high school in the Kansas City area. The entire staff has recruited Cantwell hard from the start and the Ducks are now a yearly national title contender.
Pair all that with a world-class track program and I've got Cantwell announcing he's a Duck on April 30.

2. Ohio State keeps four-star LB Cincere Johnson home
There are some elite programs after the Ohio native. Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State and USC are all heavily involved for him and will get official visits. Johnson has visited these schools and others this spring but I'm placing an early FutureCast in favor of the in-state Buckeyes.

Johnson is looking for development and elite linebacker production when thinking about his top schools. The Buckeyes offer that, are close to home and are coming off a national championship. Coach Ryan Day and his staff have recruited Johnson hard and it's tough to see him turning the program down.

3. Roman Voss commits to Iowa
I'm calling my shot early on this one. Voss hasn't really hit the road in full force yet this spring but is hoping to get out to several schools. There are many schools around the country hoping to get him on campus to stop this from being a Minnesota–Iowa battle.

But in the end, I think the Minnesota native will ultimately commit to the Iowa Hawkeyes. It was a game changer for Voss when the Hawkeyes offered him as a tight end. The program's history at the position speaks for itself and Iowa puts tight ends into the NFL on a yearly basis.
I'm logging a FutureCast for the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder to end up in Iowa City.

Nets land one player on The Ringer's top 100 after tanking season

Mar 29, 2025; Washington, District of Columbia, USA; Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson (2) looks on during the second half against the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images The post Nets land one player on The Ringer's top 100 after tanking season appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the 2024-25 NBA season nearing its close, a new hierarchy is emerging amongst the league's players. The Ringer released its updated top 100 players list on Thursday. Only one member of the Brooklyn Nets made the cut, with Cam Johnson coming in at No. 75. Advertisement 'Older NBA prospects—like Cam Johnson, who was 23 years old when he was drafted in 2019—typically don't have high ceilings. So it made sense that Johnson was a good but not great contributor for a while in Phoenix: He was an excellent shooter with a career 40 percent mark from distance who lacked any other standout skills. Now in his late 20s, however, Johnson is coming into his own as a more well-rounded offensive threat,' wrote Zach Kram. 'He's seizing on the ample opportunities up for grabs in Brooklyn: He's initiating more offense, creating more shots for himself, and becoming even more efficient despite the increased volume. Although he surprisingly stayed put in Brooklyn past the trade deadline, his ultimate destination might still be as a role player for a contender—but now Johnson would fill that role with more oomph than ever before.' Johnson is coming off a career-best season during which he averaged 18.8 points and 3.4 assists on 48/39/89 shooting splits. He and Desmond Bane were the NBA's only players to average at least 18 points on such efficiency. With the Nets in the early stages of a rebuild, the 28-year-old could be a trade candidate leading up to the draft. Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas were notable omissions from the Ringer's list. Cam Johnson is lone Nets representative on The Ringer's NBA Top 100 Robert Goddin-Imagn Images Claxton had previously made the list, coming in at No. 60 following the 2022-23 campaign and No. 95 following 2023-24. His slide out of the Top 100 underscores a dip in production as Brooklyn continues a teardown of its roster. Advertisement Claxton, considered a Defensive Player of the Year candidate two seasons ago, struggled to produce at his accustomed level while battling injuries this season. He averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks on 56.3 percent shooting, his lowest since his rookie season. The 26-year-old suffered a back injury during the offseason that forced him to receive an epidural early in the year. Claxton told reporters at his exit interview that his back was 'still bothering him,' but he would not need any procedure during the offseason. Thomas has never made the Ringer's top 100 list. The 23-year-old further cemented his place as the Nets' lead offensive option this season, averaging 24.0 points on 44/35/88 shooting splits. However, he appeared in just 25 games while suffering three injuries to his left hamstring. Thomas remains a polarizing player following his fourth NBA season. While he has proven capable of consistently posting monstrous scoring efforts, his playmaking and defense continue to raise questions about his long-term role. Advertisement The former first-round pick saw a slight uptick in his assist numbers this season, averaging 3.8 per game, although still well below other players with similar usage rates. His defense left much to be desired. Thomas posted a plus-6.8 defensive rating, the worst mark on the Nets, per CleaningTheGlass. Despite this, Thomas has likely done enough over the last two seasons offensively to earn a significant payday. The Virginia native will be a restricted free agent this summer. Josh Pearson delivers a storybook performance in Game 1 of super regional

Josh Pearson delivers a storybook performance in Game 1 of super regional When Josh Pearson's name was called, he was ready. The veteran outfielder was tabbed to bat leadoff in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional vs. West Virginia. The move was one of several lineup adjustments made by head coach Jay Johnson as the Tigers prepared to face lefty Griffin Kirn. The shuffle included moving Derek Curiel, the typical leadoff man, to the No. 7 hole. Johnson was rewarded for the move with Pearson and Curiel having big days, combining for nine of LSU's 16 RBI. Pearson had two of LSU's biggest hits. He started the rally in the fifth with a leadoff single. The next inning, he hit a grand slam. Seeing Pearson's name atop the lineup caught some by surprise. Pearson saw just four AB's in LSU's regional and had just two hits since May 4. That's usually not the resume of a leadoff hitter in a Super Regional with a trip to Omaha on the line. But Johnson had no doubts. "He's a good player. He's a good hitter. Character, makeup, toughness, raised right, best parents in the world," Johnson said. It can be tough for rotational players to find a rhythm being in and out of the lineup -- but not for Pearson. "He's always ready when we call his name," Johnson said, "He had a good series at South Carolina. He started two of those games. He's the best. He's just the best." Pearson said Johnson texted him on Friday night to tell him he would be in the lineup, but Pearson didn't learn he was batting leadoff until he showed up at the ballpark. "Really, nothing changes. Every day, I kind of show up to the field as if I would be in the lineup at some part of the lineup," Pearson said. Pearson has been around for a long time. He's one of the few holdovers from LSU's 2023 national title team and has been with Johnson since the start at LSU. "Will be odd not having him here. I mean, because that's my only guy. I mean, the four years together, like, that's it," Johnson said. Curiel, a standout true freshman, took a liking to Pearson early. "I'm super proud of Josh," Curiel said, "Josh has been a leader on this team since day one, since I've gotten here. He kind of taught me the ropes, you know, and I look up to him a lot. Two years ago, last year, watching him on TV, I wanted to be his teammate. I wanted to be his friend and he's been like a brother to me." If that was Pearson's final game at Alex Box Stadium, it was a heck of a way to go out. But with the way Pearson swung the bat on Saturday, don't be surprised if he gets a chance to do more damage on Sunday. "It's been awesome. These have been the most fun four years of my life. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm going to miss the box. I'm going to miss playing in the box. We've still got one game tomorrow, so we're going to make the most of it for sure.

Jay Johnson's lineup shuffle pays off for LSU baseball in Game 1 vs. West Virginia

Jay Johnson's lineup shuffle pays off for LSU baseball in Game 1 vs. West Virginia LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson mixed up the Tigers' lineup once again in Saturday's super regional win over West Virginia. Referencing the "56-game" approach to every season, Johnson said each player buys into their role no matter if they're in the regular season or playoffs. "I just think it speaks to good players, mental strength, attitude, team over me, understand their job and what's required of them and being trained for it," Johnson said. "There's a lot that goes into it." Against the Mountaineers' left-handed starting pitcher Griffin Kirn, Josh Pearson batted leadoff with Derek Curiel taking up the seven hole. The latter occupied the top spot for most of the season but Curiel wasn't rattled as he finished with five RBI and three hits, including a home run. "I just approached the game how we approach the game all the time," Curiel said. "Whether I'm batting first, second, seventh, just trying to go up there and do my job. [I] feel like I executed that well today and that was just the plan." Along the same lines, Pearson remained ready for his opportunity to make an impact during the postseason and learned he'd be starting from Johnson on Friday. With Kirn on the bump, he batted in four runs on two hits and scored two runs himself. "Every day I kind of show up to the field as if I would be in the lineup," Pearson said. "[I] came today ready to go and saw my name in the leadoff spot and I knew I had a job to do and I had to get the job done." LSU returns to action on Sunday, looking to punch its ticket to the College World Series.
