Naidu urges Gadkari to give speedy clearance to Vizag and Vijayawada metro rail projects
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has requested Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari to give speedy clearance to the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects, while promising to do what all is required from the State for the smooth implementation of the highway projects. The State government would ensure that land acquisition issues did not hamper the road projects that were crucial for development, Mr. Naidu told Mr. Gadkari, while thanking him for sanctioning eight road projects, including a greenfield highway between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, the total cost of which was about ₹27,000 crore. Addressing a meeting where Mr. Gadkari virtually laid foundation for 27 road projects and inaugurated two projects on Saturday, Mr. Naidu said he was happy that the Union Minister agreed to recommend the sanction of an Outer Ring Road (ORR) around Amaravati. He suggested that a bullet train linking Amaravati with Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru would connect the huge population in those States. Mr. Naidu said road projects costing more than ₹70,000 crore were in various stages of execution in Andhra Pradesh, and emphasis had been laid on the construction of sea and airports in order to provide the best logistics facilities. Mr. Naidu said he was impressed by Mr. Gadkari's dynamism in giving tangible shape to the highway projects that involved huge investments, and expressed confidence that under his leadership, the length of the national highways being built in a day would reach 50 km from the present 37 km. The Chief Minister said that Mr. Gadkari had played a key role in the construction of the Polavaram project when he was the Union Minister for Water Resources. Mr. Gadkari said in his speech earlier that Mr. Naidu's vision to link the Godavari, the Krishna and the Penna was commendable, insisting that this project had the potential to take water from there to as far as the tail-end areas in Tamil Nadu. Union Ministers K. Rammohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Ministers B.C. Janardhan Reddy and Y. Satya Kumar, and MPs Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Kesineni Sivanath, Daggubati Purandeswari and Vallabhaneni Balashowry were among those present.

East and West Godavari to drive energy-efficient tech under new Rs 1k crore scheme
Visakhapatnam: The Union ministry of power recently launched the 'assistance in deploying energy efficient technologies in industries and establishments' (ADEETIE) scheme, backed by a govt budget of Rs 1,000 crore. While the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh has been selected for the overall scheme, both East and West Godavari districts have been chosen for participation in the glass–refractory sector. The scheme, being implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced energy-efficient technologies in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Of the Rs 1,000 crore budget, Rs 875 crore has been earmarked as interest subvention to facilitate concessional financing for energy-efficient upgrades, while Rs 50 crore has been allocated for implementation and capacity-building activities. The initiative is expected to leverage total investments of over Rs 9,000 crore, including significant contributions by MSMEs themselves. As part of the national rollout, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has appealed to Andhra Pradesh to take immediate and focused action in scaling up the implementation of the ADEETIE scheme. States have been urged to engage their state-designated agencies to proactively educate stakeholders, identify eligible clusters, and provide end-to-end support to MSMEs for a seamless technology transition. Additional secretary, ministry of power, and director general, BEE, Akash Tripathi, said that ADEETIE is a major boon to the MSME sector. "We urge all states to capitalise on this opportunity from the very beginning to ensure the scheme's success and maximise benefits for their industries," said Tripathi. The scheme provides comprehensive support—from investment-grade energy audits and detailed project reports to financing assistance and monitoring and verification—ensuring measurable energy savings, reduced costs, and enhanced productivity. BEE secretary, Milind Deore, stressed the importance of state-level engagement: "The role of SDAs is crucial in outreach, handholding, and scaling the scheme. By working closely with stakeholders, states can ensure their MSMEs become globally competitive and environmentally responsible," said Deore. ADEETIE is operational across 60 industrial clusters and 14 energy-intensive sectors, including textiles, foundries, and food processing, among others. A phased, cluster-specific approach is being adopted to tailor interventions and ensure measurable outcomes. According to the BEE officials, the Union government sees this scheme as a pivotal tool not only for post-pandemic recovery, but also for long-term sustainability, job creation, and achieving India's climate and net-zero goals. The ministry of power has specially acknowledged the proactive role of states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, while calling upon all states to rise to the occasion and make ADEETIE a turning point in India's clean industrial growth. To map properties, Centre's nod sought to fly drones in 353 red zone villages
Bengaluru: In a major push to accelerate property surveys under the Centre's Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) scheme, the state govt has sought clearance from the Union ministry of civil aviation (MoCA) to fly drones over 353 red zone villages. These villages lie near sensitive areas such as airports, military bases, and high-security zones, where drone use requires prior approval from the Centre. The move is part of the state's plan to complete drone-based surveys across all 30,715 villages by March 2026, aiming to provide legal ownership records and resolve rural land disputes. Union panchayat raj minister SP Singh Baghel recently told the Rajya Sabha that Karnataka and the Survey of India have formally requested permission from the MoCA to conduct drone flights over these restricted zones. Once approved, surveys in the remaining villages will begin immediately. MoCA is expected to grant permission but with operational riders, officials said. J Manjunath, SSLR commissioner, told TOI: "The govt is conducting surveys for properties located in gramthanas (village boundaries) and residential properties near gramthanas for the first time. After the drone survey, field surveyors will conduct spot surveys with the cooperation of villagers and prepare a village map containing all information from properties to drainage." Manjunath said people can make corrections before final property cards are issued. "After completing surveys and verifying property documents available with owners and gram panchayats, we will generate draft property cards and issue them to owners. If disputes remain, necessary corrections will be done based on supporting documents and later final property card will be issued to owners," he said. Data from the revenue department shows draft property cards have already been prepared for 10.2 lakh properties in 4,125 villages. Work on the remaining villages is set to begin once MoCA gives the green light. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
