To map properties, Centre's nod sought to fly drones in 353 red zone villages
These villages lie near sensitive areas such as airports, military bases, and high-security zones, where drone use requires prior approval from the Centre. The move is part of the state's plan to complete drone-based surveys across all 30,715 villages by March 2026, aiming to provide legal ownership records and resolve rural land disputes.
Union panchayat raj minister SP Singh Baghel recently told the Rajya Sabha that Karnataka and the Survey of India have formally requested permission from the MoCA to conduct drone flights over these restricted zones.
Once approved, surveys in the remaining villages will begin immediately. MoCA is expected to grant permission but with operational riders, officials said.

SVAMITVA scheme is a flagship initiative that uses drone technology to demarcate residential areas in rural villages, generating property ownership cards and ensuring clarity to land rights. As of the end of July, surveys had already been completed in 23,338 villages, data from the state's survey settlement and land records (SSLR) department shows.

The remaining work is being taken up in partnership with Survey of India.
J Manjunath, SSLR commissioner, told TOI: "The govt is conducting surveys for properties located in gramthanas (village boundaries) and residential properties near gramthanas for the first time. After the drone survey, field surveyors will conduct spot surveys with the cooperation of villagers and prepare a village map containing all information from properties to drainage."
Manjunath said people can make corrections before final property cards are issued. "After completing surveys and verifying property documents available with owners and gram panchayats, we will generate draft property cards and issue them to owners. If disputes remain, necessary corrections will be done based on supporting documents and later final property card will be issued to owners," he said.
Data from the revenue department shows draft property cards have already been prepared for 10.2 lakh properties in 4,125 villages. Work on the remaining villages is set to begin once MoCA gives the green light.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maharashtra govt has formed a committee to conduct a survey to identify farmers who really need a loan waiver, revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Thursday. Lok Sabha passes Manipur Appropriation Bill amid Opposition din
The Lok Sabha on Thursday (August 7, 2025) passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025, amidst the din of Opposition protests. The Bill, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, authorises the State to spend ₹30,969 crore on its expenditure requirements during the current financial year. Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, 2025. Earlier during this session, Parliament approved a statutory resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur for another six months, beyond August 13. Opposition disruptions The House passed both the Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2025 and the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, through a voice vote, amid persistent disruptions from Opposition benches. Ms Sitharaman slammed the Opposition for disrupting the proceedings, claiming that while they talk of Manipur, they do not want money to go to the State. Central support The appropriation Bill authorises payment and appropriation of certain sums from the Consolidated Fund of the State of Manipur to meet the expenditure charged on the Consolidated Fund and the grants made by the Lok Sabha in respect of the estimated expenditure of the government of Manipur for the financial year 2025-26. The Manipur Budget for the year included an additional Central allocation of ₹2,898 crore, with ₹1,667 crore earmarked for capital expenditure, and ₹1,231 crore for revenue expenditure. The government is also providing ₹523 crore to support internally displaced people in the State and rehabilitate those in the camps, Ms. Sitharaman said.

AI image The government may prioritise targeted support for sectors such as textiles and chemicals, those expected to be severely affected by the new 50 per cent US tariffs, under its export promotion mission, industry sources said on Thursday. As per the news agency PTI, the matter was taken up during consultations held by the commerce ministry with exporters from the textiles and chemicals sectors to evaluate the fallout of the US decision and explore support mechanisms. Sources cited by PTI claimed that the Centre is working on the structure of the Rs 2,250 crore export promotion mission, which was announced in the Union Budget earlier this year. The plan is likely to include easy credit schemes for MSMEs, facilitation of warehousing overseas, e-commerce promotion, and global branding initiatives to help Indian exporters access new markets. 'The government is looking at extending support measures under this mission to sectors which would be badly hit by the US tariffs,' one source said, as quoted by PTI. Textiles exports from India to the US are currently worth around $11 billion, accounting for 9 per cent of the US's total textiles imports. Similarly, chemical exports are pegged at about $6 billion. At the meeting, exporters urged the commerce ministry to provide fiscal incentives, including interest subvention and an extension of schemes such as RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) and RoSCTL (Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies). They also sought timely release of dues, simplified advance authorisation norms, and lower port charges. Exporters have also made a representation to the GK Pillai committee on RoDTEP-related concerns. As per PTI, industry sources added that several exporters have begun looking at alternative markets. "The world trade is disrupted, and in this, there are possibilities of export diversification. Export promotion councils are working on this. The commerce ministry is also analysing," one person said. They added that high tariffs may push Indian manufacturers to explore domestic demand more seriously, thereby reducing imports and helping the country's trade balance. The new tariffs come just weeks ahead of the sixth round of India-US trade negotiations, scheduled for August 25.
