Legendary MTV & BET star Ananda Lewis passes away
Ananda Lewis, HBCU alumna and legendary television host, has tragically passed away at the age of 52. The news was broken on Wednesday evening by Lewis's sister Lakshmi in a social media post.
'She's free, and in His heavenly arms. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 Lord, rest her soul🙏🏽,' she posted.
Lewis graduated cum laude from Howard University in 1995 with a degree in history. During her time at Howard, she appeared in the music video for 'Baby, I'm Yours,' a hit R&B song by Shai, fellow Howard alumni. Filmed on campus in 1993, she played the love interest of vocalist Carl 'Groove' Martin.
Following her HBCU experience, she became the host of BET's Teen Summit, in which she appeared on the program for three seasons. She ultimately got the call to become a VJ for MTV, hosting shows such as Total Request Live and Hot Zone. She also hosted her own eponymous talk show
In a 2020 Instagram post, Lewis disclosed her diagnosis of stage III breast cancer, explaining that she had avoided regular mammograms due to a fear of radiation. By October 2024, during a roundtable discussion with CNN's Stephanie Elam (a longtime college friend) and CNN anchor Sara Sidner Lewis revealed she had chosen not to follow medical advice to undergo a double mastectomy.
Unfortunately, her cancer had metastasized and progressed to stage IV, as she shared during the discussion. She also noted that she had pursued homeopathic treatments during her journey.
'My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made. I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way. . . . I wish I could go back. It's important for me to admit where I went wrong with this,' she said.
She eventually wrote an essay in Essence in January 2025 urging women to take preventative measures and to listen to their bodies.
'We're not meant to stay here forever. We come to this life, have experiences — and then we go,' she wrote. 'Being real about that with yourself changes how you choose to live. I don't want to spend one more minute than I have to suffering unnecessarily. That, for me, is not the quality of life I'm interested in. When it's time for me to go, I want to be able to look back on my life and say, 'I did that exactly how I wanted to.''

'Celebrity Deathmatch' Creator Wants To Bring The Show Back
It's been an interesting time for the television and film industries to revive different properties. After all, recognizable IPs seem to sell the most these days. One show that hasn't been brought back, however, is the stop-motion parody series Celebrity Deathmatch that once aired on MTV. Now the show's creator is eager to bring the series back to the small screen. Eric Fogel, who originally created the series after pitching it nearly 30 years ago, believes that it would work even better in today's world. When one considers the existence of social media and the vast array of celebrities to choose from today, it's not exactly a bad idea, and one that Fogel believes could work better today than during the show's original run. The series, which stems from Fogel's love of stop-motion animation, professional wrestling, and the overall concept of making fun of celebrities, ran from 1998 to 2007 with a number of iterations including the original two television pilots. While speaking with People, Fogel opened up about the potential for different matchups you could have today: 'That's the beauty of the show — it's timeless. These matches are iconic. You could literally open Google and type a few words, and you'll get a whole bunch of new Celebrity Deathmatch ideas. It's an evergreen concept,' he shared. 'I was just browsing this morning. Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel hate each other. You know, Will Smith and Chris Rock probably still hate each other? Taylor Swift and Kanye West is still a match I'd like to visit in the ring,' he added. 'It feels like there are still some unresolved issues there. It's such a fertile, fertile environment. I feel like you could bring it back tomorrow, and people would tune into it.' Additionally, he comments on the addition of social media, noting that he 'would love the opportunity to just see what would happen.' 'To me, that would be even more entertaining, to have that interaction where now, celebrities are so vocal and you can get that sort of real-time reaction,' he said. 'I think that would make it even more exciting.' 'Politically? We don't even have to go there, but you know… Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg would be a very fertile environment for a celebrity deathmatch. And then, you know, just pivoting back to the social media angle, you know, MrBeast and Logan Paul would be insane, right? You have a whole new sort of stomping grounds that you could play in, and it's just unlimited.' Laughing, he added, 'Let's do it. Let's make it.' Obviously nothing is officially in the works, but he seems open to the possibilities and the amount of potential for a modern Celebrity Deathmatch is undeniable. As such, we'll have to see whether or not a revival someday gets off the ground. For now, fans can check out the original Celebrity Deathmatch show on the Paramount streaming service Paramount Plus.

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' is triggering millennials who watched 'The Hills' — and here's why
'As a millennial I can't believe I have to watch a woman give up going to paris just to make a manchild happy. AGAIN,' one fan wrote on X. Any millennial raised on MTV-era reality television knows all too well that there's nothing worse than being remembered as the girl who didn't go to Paris. On Wednesday's episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty, which is currently airing its third and final season on Prime Video, the show's main character, 21-year-old Isabel 'Belly' Conklin (Lola Tung) seemingly chooses to forego her semester abroad in Paris so she can spend the summer at a beach house with her fiancé, Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). 'I don't want us to be separated right after we get married,' Belly tells Jeremiah. So, she decides, 'I'll stay.' Immediately, many millennial viewers were reminded of another lovestruck woman who famously chose her boyfriend over a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the French capital: Lauren Conrad from MTV's The Hills. In the Season 1 finale of The Hills, which aired in 2006, Conrad, the show's star, is offered a coveted summer internship with Teen Vogue in Paris. But like Belly, she ultimately chooses to spend the summer with her boyfriend, Jason, on a beach in Los Angeles.
