Odisha CM's grievance cell records 91% resolution rate
The grievance cell of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had received 11,516 complaints till the 12th round held on July 7 out of which 10,502 complaints have been resolved. The remaining complaints are in the process of being addressed, officials said.
Majhi who heard public grievances in Unit-II area of the city on Monday provided immediate medical assistance to three critically-ill persons from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Since the revival of the CM's grievance cell last year, 51 people have received Rs 55 lakh in medical assistance through the system.
As usual, the chief minister began the day by meeting differently-abled persons first and addressing individual complaints outside the grievance cell. He then attended to the people waiting inside the hall. He directed the secretaries and other senior officials of departments concerned to ensure prompt disposal of all grievances.
Nine ministers including Revenue minister Suresh Pujari, Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Health minister Mukesh Mahaling, Commerce and Transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Housing and Urban Development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Panchayati Raj minister Rabi Narayan Naik assisted the chief minister.

Karnataka government set to regulate private ambulances by amending law
Bengaluru: The state govt has decided to amend the law to regulate private ambulances, especially their fares. "We'll be coming out with an amendment to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act any day and bring all ambulance service providers under its ambit. "At present, there's no licensing or specific registration facilities for ambulances and mobile medical units. Both of these will be brought under the KPME Act," he added. Rao's statement came after reports about a private ambulance charging Rs 8,500 to take a patient from Goraguntepalya to Victoria Hospital. "The health department has already taken the issue of private ambulances charging exorbitant rates seriously... I appeal that the health sector should be viewed with a service mindset and not just from a business perspective," the minister had posted on social media. Health officials told TOI the state govt aims to follow the Singapore model that has a central command centre, which will be used to track and monitor both private and govt ambulances. This could be a game-changer in emergency response as ambulances will be strategically stationed across the city and state, and not just at hospitals, an official added. At present, govt ambulances are equipped with a GPS tracker to help patients get to the nearest healthcare facility. The govt's 108 service has 88 ambulances across the city, but private ambulances run in the hundreds in Bengaluru alone. The new system would prevent underhand dealings among ambulance drivers to take patients to certain hospitals, a private hospital doctor opined.

Gujarat to prepare SOPs to stop duplicate, fake medicines from entering state
The Gujarat government, in a statement on Tuesday, said it is in the process of formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance detection and seizures of duplicate and fake medicines from entering the state. 'Recently, it came to the notice of the state government that fake medicines are entering (Gujarat). They are being sourced from outside the state and sold in some places inside the state. Gujarat's Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) has also taken action by conducting on-site inspections. To make this more stringent and strict, the government will prepare an SOP for the inspection of medicines coming from outside the state into Gujarat,' Health Minister Rushikesh Patel was quoted as saying. The SOPs would make registration of imported medicines mandatory, require registration of transporters carrying medicines and cancellation of licenses of chemists or wholesalers who are caught in such dealing with fake medicines. The SOPs will also require people to strictly follow the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Besides, expensive and 'fast-moving' medicines will be closely monitored. The state government will also start three new testing labs in addition to the existing NABL-certified laboratory in Vadodara. To intensify on-site testing, 10 sets of state-of-the-art hand-held devices (Raman Spectrometer with Advanced Technology) will be purchased. Further, a flying squad will be formed. Patel added that with the implementation of these SOPs, Gujarat will become the first state in the country to adopt 'zero-tolerance' towards duplicate and fake medicines. 'The government will take intensive action to prevent fake/spurious/counterfeit medicines from outside the state in Gujarat. In the last 4 years, raids were conducted to prevent counterfeit medicines/cosmetics in the state and more than Rs 6 crore (worth of) medicines/cosmetics were seized…about 75 persons/firms were found involved and action was taken against them,' a statement read. Speaking about the type of activities unearthed so far, the statement said, 'In most of these cases, persons who do not have a valid license for buying, selling and storing medicines are involved and investigation has also revealed that in most of the cases, counterfeit medicines come from outside the state.'
