On 79th Independence Day, PM Narendra Modi's BIG warning to Pakistan – 'won't tolerate nuclear blackmail anymore'
'India has decided that it will not tolerate nuclear threats anymore, we won't fall for any blackmail,' PM Narendra Modi said in his 12th consecutive address from the ramparts of Red Fort.
PM Modi's statement came following back-to-back statements and threats by the Pakistani leadership against India. It started last week when Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir, during his US visit, threatened to plunge the region into a nuclear war if Islamabad faced an existential threat.
PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi after hoisting the national flag as part of official events.
This was Narendra Modi's 12th consecutive Independence Day address as Prime Minister from Red Fort since 2024. Before Narendra Modi, country's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Tricolour 17 times. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi hoisted the national flag 16 times.
"India has now decided, blood and water will not flow together. The people have come to realize that the Indus Waters Treaty is unjust. Water from the Indus River system has been irrigating the lands of the enemy, while our own farmers have suffered. What kind of agreement is this that has caused such immense loss to our farmers for the past seven decades?," PM Narendra Modi said.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday claimed that any attempt to stop the flow of water into Pakistan is a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty and will be met with a 'decisive response'.
The threat directed at India came a day after Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made similar comments, describing the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as an attack on the Indus Valley Civilisation.
This is PM Narendra Modi's first Independence Day address from Red Fort after Operation Sindoor – India's precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in May this year, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April.
Narendra Modi said that the entire India and the world were shocked by the Pahalgam terror attack . "I am very proud that from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I am getting the opportunity to salute the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Our brave jawans punished the enemy beyond its imagination. On 22nd April, terrorists from across the border came to Pahalgam and killed people after asking their religion,' he said.

Centre Proposes Reducing GST Slabs From 4 To 2, May Retain 5%, 18%: Sources
The Centre has proposed that only two slabs for Goods and Services Tax (GST) be retained - 5 per cent and 18 percent - as per sources. Under this proposal, 90 per cent of the items in the 28 per cent will be moved to the 18 per cent slab, while 99 per cent of the items in the 12 per cent slab will be moved to the five per cent slab, the sources added. A special 40 per cent rate will apply to luxury and sin goods, which include tobacco, gutkha and cigarettes. The 40 per cent category will have just 5-7 items, according to the government sources, but will exclude aspirational items like refrigerator, air conditioner and washing machine. Further, petroleum products will continue to remain outside the GST regime even in revamped indirect tax structure. The total incidence of taxation will remain at the current level of 88 per cent. Sources said that the proposed GST revamp is expected to give consumption a big boost, which will offset revenue loss due to rate rationalisation. The proposed GST revamp comes hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the Independence Day address that GST reforms will be brought for "double Diwali". This was apart from otehr significant announcements like a task force for next-generation reforms, a national deep water exploration mission for self-reliance in energy, and an indigenous "Sudarshan Chakra" defence system by 2035.

If the Assamese people remain 'silent', in two decades, the Independence Day flag will be hoisted by an 'unknown Chief Minister', CM Himanta Biswa Sarma declared in his Independence Day speech on Friday, exhorting people to 'resolve' not to sell land or rent houses to 'unknown people'. In his last Independence Day speech before the state goes to elections next year, Sarma doubled down on his rhetoric of a 'demographic threat' in the state. 'At the time of Independence, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi (the first Chief Minister of Assam) had a sense of how safe our future would be. At the time of grouping, he had seen the Muslim League's movement. Gopinath Bordoloi had seen a Prime Minister like Saadulah (Muslim League leader and Prime Minister of Assam during British rule). And because of this, Gopinath Bordoloi had taught our people to be cautious,' he said. 'But in the last 75 years, it is like we compromised somewhere or the other. At the time, Gopinath Bordoloi and Bishnuram Medhi (the second CM of Assam) had appealed not to give shelter to unknown people, but it is like we invited and brought them to our home.
