Crude Holds Near Weekly Pivot as Geopolitical Risk Builds

Friday's Settlement: 63.88, unchanged on the day, down -3.45 [-5.12%] for the week WTI Crude Oil futures finished off a tough week unchanged. The start of the week gave us some hope, with CL holding the key 65.00 level following OPEC+ accelerated hikes. These hopes quickly faded after news broke that the White House was planning to meet with Russia's Putin to discuss a ceasefire without European or Ukrainian allies present. The possibility of a truce was the main catalyzing factor for the week, gobbling up most of the headlines despite OPEC+'s forward plans still being in flux. Today: 64.19 up +0.31 [+0.47%] The macro environment is trading mixed into the US open with the Dollar showing outsized strength. Precious metals are trading weaker but the commodity complex is holding in there considering the move in the dollar. Crude markets are trading higher as traders work to price in risk around the Trump-Putin meeting scheduled for Friday. The Friday meeting will likely loom over the crude markets for the entire week as a potential ceasefire weighs on risk sentiment. Technical Analysis: June 24th lows, our longer-term pivot and point of balance, held last week, and futures are higher this morning, but significant chart repair is needed. The risk of a ceasefire will weigh on markets throughout the week, limiting upside risk. While fundamentals continue to tilt bullish, we're more cautious on our bias at these levels as risk looks more two-sided. For intraday trading, our pivot and point of balance are set at.. A driver faces up to $153,000 in fines for speeding on a Swiss street. But he can afford it

A vehicle passes in front of a sign of the Vaud Cantonal Police indicating the number of driving licences withdrawn for speeding in the construction zone on the A1 motorway between Lausanne and Yverdon, Switzerland, Tuesday, June 15, 2010. (Dominic Favre/Keystone via AP) GENEVA — The driver was clocked going 27 kilometers per hour over the speed limit on a street in the Swiss city of Lausanne, and now he's facing up to 90,000 Swiss francs (more than C$153,000) in fines as a result. But he can afford it. Why the eye-popping penalty? Because the speedster, a repeat offender, is one of Switzerland's wealthiest people, and the Vaud canton, or region, serves up fines based on factors like income, fortune or general family financial situation. The Swiss are not alone. Germany, France, Austria and the Nordic countries all issue punishments based on a person's wealth. The recent fine isn't even a record in Switzerland. In 2010, a millionaire Ferrari driver got a ticket equal to nearly C$400,000 for speeding in the eastern canton of St. Gallen. Back then, the Swiss safety group Road Cross said rich drivers had been lightly punished until voters approved penal law overhaul three years earlier that let judges hand down fines based on personal income and wealth for misdemeanors like speeding and drunk driving. Under today's rules, an indigent person might spend a night in jail instead of a fine, while the wealthiest in the rich Alpine country could be on the hook for tens of thousands. A court in the Swiss canton of Vaud recently ruled that the tycoon must pay 10,000 Swiss francs (C$17,000) up front and could be forced to pay the rest — 80,000 Swiss francs more — if he's caught for a similar roadway infraction over the next three years. Switzerland's '24 Heures' newspaper first reported the case and said the man, who was not identified, was a French citizen listed by Swiss economic weekly Bilan among the 300 richest people in Switzerland — with a fortune in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The daily reported that an automated police radar photographed the offender driving at 77 kilometers per hour in a 50 km/h zone on a Lausanne street. A quick-calculating prosecutor tallied the maximum fine the driver faced under the law, the report said. Vincent Derouand, a spokesperson for the Vaud public prosecutors office, said the defendant didn't contest the decision, which was handed down in June for the infraction nearly a year ago — in August 2024. The Vaud criminal code sets a maximum financial penalty based on the 'personal and economic situation of the offender at the time of the ruling' — notably taking into account issues like income, fortune, lifestyle and family financial needs. The newspaper reported that he had already been caught for a similar speeding infraction eight years ago, and also paid 10,000 Swiss francs in penalty and faced another 60,000 if another infraction had taken place within the following two years. In Switzerland, penalties for speeding can even catch up with the cops: One officer was fined for racing at nearly twice the speed limit through Geneva streets back in 2016 while chasing thieves who had blown up a bank teller machine. PG vs. Inflation: How Long Can Price Hikes Offset Input Costs?

The Procter & Gamble Company PG has relied on price increases in recent years to offset inflationary pressures on input costs, but sustaining this strategy indefinitely presents challenges. While fiscal 2025 saw balanced contributions from volume and pricing, management has acknowledged that consumer behavior is shifting as inflation, tariffs and macro uncertainty weigh on purchasing patterns. In some categories, especially in North America and Europe, category growth has slowed, and consumers are seeking value through smaller packs, promotions or lower-priced tiers. This creates a ceiling on the effectiveness of repeated price hikes, as further increases risk driving trade-down or reducing category growth. PG's ability to maintain pricing power depends heavily on its brand superiority and innovation pipeline. Management emphasized that categories where performance has slipped below consumer expectations have seen share pressure, but regaining superiority quickly reaccelerates growth. Examples such as innovation in Pampers, SK-II and Swiffer demonstrate that when product performance and value are clearly communicated, the company can command premium pricing even in a cost-sensitive environment. PG is working on cutting costs, improving its supply chain and focusing on its most profitable products to handle ongoing inflation. The company is aiming for up to $1.5 billion in yearly savings and is removing less important products so it can invest in the best ones. But with $200 million in extra commodity costs and $1 billion in tariffs expected in 2026, PG will need more than just price hikes. It plans to combine smarter pricing with cost savings and innovations to stay ahead. PG's Peers: How CL & CHD Tackle Inflation In an increasingly inflationary and volatile macroeconomic environment, leading consumer goods companies like Colgate-Palmolive Company CL and Church & Dwight Co., Inc. CHD are leveraging strategic price increases and premium innovation to help offset rising input costs. Colgate has been using price increases alongside its premium innovation strategy to help cover rising input costs, including higher raw materials, like fats and oils and the impact of tariffs. In second-quarter 2025, pricing added 80 basis points (bps) to its gross margin, but this was more than offset by a 420-bps hit from raw and packaging material inflation. The company is also relying on 'funding-the-growth' productivity initiatives, which delivered a 250-bps benefit, and is planning further pricing actions in key international markets. For Church & Dwight, price increases have been an important tool to help offset higher costs from raw materials, packaging and tariffs, but the benefit is becoming more limited. In second-quarter 2025, the company saw solid volume gains, yet pricing and mix had only a small positive impact on sales, and inflationary pressures still weighed on margins. Management is balancing selective pricing with productivity improvements, cost controls and innovation to protect profitability, acknowledging that there is a limit to how much consumers will accept higher prices before switching to cheaper alternatives. This means future margin protection will rely more on efficiency gains and premium product growth rather than relying solely on price hikes. PG's Price Performance, Valuation & Estimates Procter & Gamble's shares have lost around 7.5% year to date compared with the industry 's 4.3% dip. From a valuation standpoint, PG trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.01X compared with the industry's average of 19.79X. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for PG's fiscal 2025 and 2026 EPS indicates year-over-year growth of 2.3% and 6.3%, respectively. The company's EPS estimates for fiscal 2025 and 2026 have moved downward in the past 30 days. Procter & Gamble currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
