A lot of discontent in the BJP, no one is happy, says Yatnal
There is a lot of discontent in the BJP in State . No one is happy. The only way to fix it is by removing B.Y. Vijayendra from the post of the State president, Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, MLA who was expelled from the BJP, said in Vijayapura on Friday.
'The State unit of the BJP is in the Intensive Care Unit. There is no proper coordination with the alliance partner JD(S). All the leaders are sold out. Instead of acting as active leaders of a responsible opposition party, they are acting as per the wishes of the ruling party leaders, he told reporters. He said that the State leaders were trying to present a false picture of the state unit's activities before the central leaders, while betraying the common party workers,' he said.
According to him, Mr. Vijayendra was responsible for this State of the party. 'Many senior leaders are acting as per the directions of Congress leaders. Mr. Vijayendra seeks the permission of Minister Priyank Kharge before visiting Kalaburagi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are keeping the opposition inactive, by threatening Mr. Yediyurappa and Mr. Vijayendra of filing or proceeding with criminal cases against them. At least now, senior leaders like Amit Shah should understand that the BJP can not depend on Mr. Yediyurappa or his family members for ever,' he said.
He criticised the Congress government in the State as an anti-Hindu government. 'If Mr. Siddaramaiah is allowed to be Chie Minister for the next three years, he will turn Karnataka into a Kerala or a West Bengal. Unfortunately, the State BJP is not raising its voice against such actions by the Congress,' Mr. Yatnal said.

Refused Trump invite as I had to visit land of Jagannath: PM Modi
US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi (File Image) BHUBANESWAR: PM Modi Friday said he had to say 'no' to US President Donald Trump's invitation to drop by in Washington on his way back from Canada, where he had gone for the G7 summit, as he did not want to miss his scheduled visit to the "land of Lord Jagannath", reports Ashok Pradhan. While Majhi's first anniversary as CM was on June 12, the Odisha govt timed the main celebration on Friday in sync with the PM's schedule. Any change in plan could have put the govt in an awkward position in a state where BJP swept the Lok Sabha polls, winning 20 of the 21 seats, and stormed into office by winning 78 of the 147 assembly seats. Speaking at a rally in Bhubaneswar to mark one year of Mohan Charan Majhi-led BJP govt in Odisha, PM Modi said, "The President of United States called me, saying, 'Since you are in Canada, please come over. We will have a meal together and talk.' I thanked him and politely declined, saying that visiting the land of Mahaprabhu (Lord Jagannath) was essential for me. The devotion for Mahaprabhu and your love drew me here." In what was Modi's sixth visit to the state in the past one year, the PM praised Odisha's progress under the BJP govt, emphasising the state's role in India's cultural and economic development. He highlighted initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities for the people of Odisha, particularly tribal communities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Attacking the previous Congress regimes, the PM said the party which governed India for decades had neglected the tribal community and "used them merely for political benefits". He said over 125 tribal-dominated districts were affected by Maoists for years. "Most of these districts were declared backward, and the then govts did not take the responsibility to develop them," Modi said. In contrast, the BJP-led govt freed tribal society from Naxal violence, ushering in development in these areas. The PM also highlighted the role of eastern India in the country's growth trajectory. "The development of 21st century India will gain momentum from eastern India. This is the era of Purvodaya."

US judge blocks Trump ban on foreign students at Harvard
A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration's efforts to keep Harvard University from hosting international students, delivering the Ivy League school another victory as it challenges multiple government sanctions amid a battle with the White order from U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs in Boston preserves the ability of Harvard to host foreign students while the case is sued the Department of Homeland Security in May after the agency withdrew the school's certification to host foreign students and issue paperwork for their visas. The action would have forced Harvard's roughly 7,000 foreign students — about a quarter of its total enrolment — to transfer or risk being in the U.S. illegally. New foreign students would have been barred from coming to Harvard. The university called it illegal retaliation for rejecting the White House's demands to overhaul Harvard policies around campus protests, admissions, hiring and other issues. Burroughs temporarily halted the action hours after Harvard than two weeks later, in early June, Trump moved to block foreign students from entering the U.S. to attend Harvard, citing a different legal justification. Harvard challenged the move and Burroughs temporarily blocked that effort as stops and starts of the legal battle have unsettled current students and left others around the world waiting to find out whether they will be able to attend America's oldest and wealthiest Trump administration's efforts to stop Harvard from enrolling international students have created an environment of 'profound fear, concern, and confusion,' the university said in a court filing. Countless international students have asked about transferring from the university, Harvard immigration services director Maureen Martin has been warring with Harvard for months after it rejected a series of government demands meant to address conservative complaints that the school has become too liberal and has tolerated anti-Jewish harassment. Trump officials have cut more than $2.6 billion in research grants, ended federal contracts and threatened to revoke its tax-exempt April, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem demanded that Harvard turn over a trove of records related to any dangerous or illegal activity by foreign students. Harvard says it complied, but Noem said the response fell short and on May 22 revoked Harvard's certification in the Student and Exchange Visitor sanction immediately put Harvard at a disadvantage as it competed for the world's top students, the school said in its lawsuit, and it harmed Harvard's reputation as a global research hub. 'Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard,' the suit action would have upended some graduate schools that recruit heavily from abroad. Some schools overseas quickly offered invitations to Harvard's students, including two universities in Hong President Alan Garber previously said the university has made changes to combat antisemitism. But Harvard, he said, will not stray from its 'core, legally-protected principles,' even after receiving federal Watch

TMC, BJP spar over Bengal foundation day
Kolkata: Trinamool and BJP clashed on Friday over Bengal foundation day. Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar alleged that police tried to stop a two-wheeler rally led by him from reaching Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's residence on Elgin Road. TMC criticised BJP, saying that the saffron party attempted to force a celebration that lacked spontaneity and with which people have no association. Centre has notified June 20 as statehood day in Bengal. Bengal govt has passed a resolution in the assembly and identified Poila Baisakh, the Bengali New Year's Day, for celebrating West Bengal Day. The Friday faceoff between activists of BJP Yuva Morcha and the city police took place outside the Bhowanipore residence of Jan Sangh founding member Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, where the workers had assembled to pay their respects to the leader and then planned to reach Netaji Bhavan, a kilometre away, on two-wheelers and on foot. Suvendu Adhikari, state leader of the opposition, earlier led a march of BJP legislators from the assembly premises to the statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee on Red Road, about two kilometres away, and garlanded it. "This is a historic day which we must observe. On this day in 1947, the West Bengal Assembly under the leadership of Syama Prasad Mookerjee passed a resolution to remain in India," Adhikari said. It's a day close to the hearts of all Bengalis. The state assembly has already endorsed it. It doesn't matter where a motley band of BJP workers gather and try to force a celebration that lacks spontaneity and with which people have no direct association," said TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh. State parliamentary affairs minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay described it as "politically motivated", pointing out that state govt had already passed a resolution in the assembly and identified Poila Baisakh, the Bengali New Year's Day, for celebrating West Bengal Day. "Why is BJP suddenly so much worked up on June 20 as Paschimbanga Divas?" he asked.
