Yahoo28-05-2025

The school year is just about over in Palm Beach County, and teachers — like many others — will be looking for some summer fun.
That won't be so easy for many teachers, who have an average annual salary of $60,400, according to Palm Beach County School District budget figures. Non-instructional staff have an even lower average annual salary of $28,000 per year, according to their union.
But the good news is retailers, hotels and entertainment venues are offering a range of discounts to teachers, and some are extending those discounts to all school district employees. Here is a sampling of some of those discounts.
∎ The AC Hotel Miami Aventura is offering a Just for Teachers rate, including up to 25% off, two welcome beverages, a $25 gift card for a relaxation treatment, breakfast for two, late checkout and an upgrade to a premium room with a king bed. Search for the Just for Teachers package on marriott.com to book.
∎ Tradewinds Resort on St. Pete Beach is offering Florida educators rates as low as $99 per night.
∎ Maingate Lakeside Resort in Orlando is offering Florida educators and any other Florida school employee from any Florida school district an educator rate of $45 per night plus tax. Call 407-396-2222 and ask for the educator rate. In addition to the discounted rate, the standard $10 per night resort fee has been waived.
∎ Hawks Cay Resort and Villas on Duck Key is offering Florida teachers up to 30% off best available rates and a reduced $25 resort fee. Go to https://www.hawkscay.com/special-offers/teachers-educators/ and scroll down to "special savings for teacher appreciation" to book.
∎ Florida teachers and school district employees can save 10% off select hotels at Hotels.com.
∎ SeaWorld Orlando offers a complimentary Florida Teacher Card, which gives all active and certified K-12 Florida teachers unlimited admission to SeaWorld through September 4, 2025..
∎ Tour St. Augustineoffers free and/or 50% discounts on a number of tours and attractions through its "Educator Appreciation & Teacher VIP Program." Tour St. Augustine also says it will assist with field trip planning and familiarization visits, including hotel discounts.
∎ The Kennedy Space Center is offering full-time Florida educators complimentary access to its Educator Resource Center.
∎ Crayola Experience is giving certified pre-K through 12 teachers a free annual pass good for any of Crayola Experience's five locations. The pass allows teachers to visit 365 days a year with no blackout dates. As an annual pass holder, teachers also receive 20% off admission tickets for family and friends, 20% off food and beverage purchases, 20% off merchandise, 10% off birthday parties, and special monthly offers. Teachers must show a valid teaching certificate and photo ID to qualify. Visit crayolaexperience.com/orlando provides more information.
∎ StubZero is giving Florida educators a 10% off discount on event tickets. Use the code EDU10 at checkout.
The Florida Department of Education has more information on these and a wide range of other discounts, including from rental car agencies and retailers. Palm Beach County School District teachers and staff are eligible for an additional set of discounts through the district's TeacherPerks program.

MHR Capital Group Breaks Ground on AC Hotels by Marriott in Kennewick, Washington

BELLEVUE, Wash., May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- MHR Capital Group, a Bellevue-based private investment firm focused on strategic real estate and private equity ventures, has announced the groundbreaking and commencement of construction on a new AC Hotels by Marriott in Kennewick, Washington. Developed in partnership with A1 Hospitality Group and Fowler Construction, this project represents a significant new hospitality asset in the Tri-Cities region. This project is a part of a public/private partnership in conjunction with the City of Kennewick's expansion of the Three Rivers Convention Center (TRCC). The new AC Hotel will be physically connected to the expansion, enhancing the area's ability to attract regional and national events and significantly boosting local economic activity. The project is structured as a Qualified Opportunity Zone Business, providing investors with significant long-term tax advantages under the Opportunity Zone program established by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The debt portion was financed by Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) via Bellevue Capital Group (BCG). "This investment reflects our disciplined focus on high-quality developments in growth markets," said Kamran Hasan, Founder and CEO of MHR Capital Group. "By partnering with experienced operators and local stakeholders, we're able to deliver a differentiated hospitality experience while creating long-term value for our investors and the communities we serve." The AC Hotel brand, part of the Marriott International portfolio, is known for its modern design, upscale amenities, and appeal to both business and leisure travelers. The Kennewick property will provide a high-end hospitality option in a fast-growing region with strong demographic and economic fundamentals. In addition to the hotel, MHR Capital Group will soon be opening the investment opportunity for Phase 2 of the masterplan, which will include over 550 residential units and more than 200,000 square feet of retail space. These assets are also located within the Opportunity Zone and offer the same tax-advantaged structure for qualified investors. Founded in 2011, MHR Capital Group targets high-growth, undercapitalized markets across the U.S. through a disciplined, fundamentals-driven investment strategy. The firm focuses on generating risk-adjusted returns through value-add real estate and lower middle-market private equity transactions, often in partnership with best-in-class local operators. MHR Capital has a successful track record of identifying off-market opportunities and creating long-term value for investors by combining operational expertise with a deep understanding of local market dynamics. The Kennewick development highlights MHR Capital's ongoing commitment to driving meaningful economic impact while delivering strong financial outcomes for its investment partners.
