
Isuzu D-Max EV debuts in Europe
Isuzu has unveiled the Isuzu D-Max EV at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham. This is billed as Europe's first fully electric pick-up truck designed with full commercial capabilities.
The Isuzu D-Max EV is built on the foundation of the conventional D-Max but gains an electric drivetrain. This fully electric version delivers a full-time 4×4 system, a payload capacity of over one tonne and a maximum braked towing limit of 3.5 tonnes. It's the first production EV pick-up in Europe to achieve such feats apparently.
Underneath is a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battery powering dual electric motors, delivering a combined 140kW (43kW front, 97kW rear) and 325Nm of torque. With a WLTP range of 263km and a 0–100km/h sprint time of just over 10 seconds, Isuzu reckons the D-Max EV offers a blend of real-world performance and everyday practicality. A top speed of more than 130km/h ensures it's capable on highways.
Off-road credentials include 600mm water wading depth, 210mm of ground clearance, and approach and departure angles of 30.5° and 24.2°, respectively. A new De-Dion rear suspension system replaces traditional leaf springs which should enhance ride comfort and handling while contributing to a quieter cabin experience. Isuzu claims a 10 per cent reduction in noise and vibration during full acceleration.
The Isuzu D-Max EV has been engineered with professional users in mind. It maintains its ladder chassis and integrates a Rough Terrain Mode for extreme conditions, and features an updated suite of Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) for improved safety.

The electric D-Max gets a redesigned infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all accessed via a crisp touchscreen display. Multi-level regenerative braking and Eco Mode help extend range, while the EV's battery is backed by an 8-year or 160,000-km warranty in Europe.
Yasuhiro Takeuchi, Executive Vice President of Isuzu Motors International Operations (Thailand), said during the reveal, 'We have engineered a fully electric pick-up that truly performs in real-world working environments, offering the same towing, payload, and all-terrain capability customers expect from the D-Max. This is a new chapter in the legacy of Isuzu innovation and dependability.'

Boeing settles 737 Max probe with $1.9b deal, victims' families outraged
'The message sent by this action to companies around the country is, don't worry about making your products safe for your customers,' said Javier de Luis in a statement released by attorneys for plaintiffs suing Boeing. 'This kind of non-prosecution deal is unprecedented and obviously wrong for the deadliest corporate crime in US history,' said Paul Cassell, an attorney representing relatives of victims. 'My families will object and hope to convince the court to reject it.' But the DOJ, in its brief, cited other family members who expressed a desire for closure, quoting one who said 'the grief resurfaces every time this case is discussed in court or other forums'. Family members of more than 110 crash victims told the Government 'they either support the agreement specifically, support the department's efforts to resolve the case pre-trial more generally or do not oppose the agreement', the filing said. The DOJ filing called the accord 'a fair and just resolution that serves the public interest'. 'The agreement guarantees further accountability and substantial benefits from Boeing immediately, while avoiding the uncertainty and litigation risk presented by proceeding to trial,' it said. Boeing declined to comment when contacted by AFP. Friday's proposed agreement marks the latest development in a marathon case that came after the two crashes that tarnished Boeing's reputation and contributed to leadership shake-ups at the aviation giant. The case dates to a January 2021 DOJ agreement with Boeing that settled charges that the company knowingly defrauded the Federal Aviation Administration during the Max certification. The 2021 accord included a three-year probation period. But in May 2024, the DOJ determined that Boeing had violated the 2021 accord after a number of subsequent safety lapses. Boeing agreed in July 2024 to plead guilty to 'conspiracy to defraud the United States'. But in December, federal Judge Reed O'Connor rejected a settlement codifying the guilty plea, setting the stage for the incoming Trump administration to decide the next steps. Under Friday's proposed accord, Boeing 'will admit to conspiracy to obstruct and impede the lawful operation of the Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft Evaluation Group'. But this acknowledgment 'doesn't carry any criminal penalties', said Carl Tobias, a professor at the University of Richmond School of Law. 'You don't have that kind of stigma or retribution or whatever it is that we think of as deterring that behaviour,' Tobias said. 'It's a slap on the wrist.' Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat who held hearings into Boeing's problems in 2024, condemned the agreement as an 'outrageous injustice' to victims and the public. 'After repeatedly rebuffing responsibility and lying, Boeing will now permanently escape accountability,' Blumenthal said. 'Victims, families, and the flying public deserve better. They deserve justice, not this sham.'

Masterton To Join Wai+T Talks
Article – Emily Ireland – Local Democracy Reporter A majority of Masterton councillors have voted to progress work on a Wairarapa-Tararua water services entity. Masterton will come to the negotiating table for a Wairarapa-Tararua water services entity. But if its bottom lines around non-standardisation of charges, debt ring-fencing, and shareholding arrangements don't get agreement from partner councils, they will leave the table and go it alone. The proposed entity would include Masterton, Carterton, South Wairarapa, and Tararua councils. A majority of Masterton councillors voted on Wednesday to progress work on the Wairarapa-Tararua water services delivery model, including entering into a commitment agreement with participating councils and developing a Water Services Delivery Plan. The council would also develop foundation principles to be carried forward into the Water Services Delivery Plan and foundation documents that would include: non-standardisation of pricing and debt; share allocation; and decision-making. Voting in favour were Mayor Gary Caffell, and councillors David Holmes, Stella Lennox, Craig Bowyer, Bex Johnson, and Marama Tuuta. Voting against were councillors Tim Nelson, Tom Hullena, and Brent Goodwin. Hullena was concerned that the council would be locked into the arrangement if it signed the commitment agreement and he wanted the council to 'do due diligence first'. Nelson and Goodwin were concerned by the level of uncertainty in the Wairarapa-Tararua option. Nelson much preferred the Masterton-only option. The report to council said there would be two 'off-ramps', one in July and another in August, once negotiations had taken place and further information was available. In the meantime, council staff would continue developing a water services delivery plan for a Masterton-only model. Caffell said it was 'not D-Day' and that 'if we go down the Wairarapa-Tararua path today, we are not necessarily binding ourselves to go the full distance'. 'What we are saying is we will enter negotiations with Carterton, South Wairarapa and Tararua to set up a joint entity,' he said. 'But if a majority of this council are unhappy with how negotiations pan out, then there remains the opportunity to go down another track.' He said between the two options, the Wairarapa-Tararua model was 'the best way to go at this point'. He also said the Masterton-only option did not align with the purpose and intent of Local Water Done Well legislation and that it would be harder for a smaller standalone entity to compete for quality staff. 'The safer, less risky option at this point is going forward with Wairarapa-Tararua,' he said. 'I would be the first one to pull out if I thought Masterton ratepayers weren't getting a good deal. 'Even if we move forward with Wairarapa-Tararua, our staff are still working on the Masterton model. To me, we have all bases covered.' Craig Bowyer, who seconded the motion to progress work on the joint entity, said his support 'comes with a but'. He was opposed to standardisation within the first 10 years of the entity's operation and described it as a transfer of wealth from one district to another 'and not a Robin Hood transfer'. Other councillors shared similar concerns and said their support was conditional. Deputy Mayor Bex Johnson said the initial priority was 'getting around the table'. She said Masterton District Council was coming to negotiations from a position of strength and said non-standardised pricing was 'imperative'. She also wanted Masterton to have a significant shareholding percentage of the joint entity, 'so that Masterton cannot be outvoted', reflecting the value of its assets, relatively low debt levels, and the number of connections. She said if Masterton's conditions could not be agreed with by partner councils, 'Masterton should leave the table and stand alone'. While protections against price standardisation could be put in place, non-standardisation in the future could not be guaranteed. After the vote, Caffell declared the end of the meeting but Hullena tried to ask a question related to the decision. Caffell declined this and said the meeting was closed. Earlier in the meeting, there was a heated exchange between Nelson and Caffell when Nelson said he believed council staff had been pushing the Wairarapa-Tararua option from the beginning. Caffell interrupted and said that was an unfair statement. 'No, I'll say what I believe. You listen to me because I'm speaking at the moment. Let me finish and then comment at the end,' Nelson said. Caffell later said any inference that staff had played a part 'in moving us in one direction is totally false'.
