3 pilgrims die during Hemkund Sahib yatra
Dehradun: Three pilgrims died during the Hemkund Sahib yatra — one after being hit by a boulder near Atalakoti while returning, and two others due to health complications, officials said on Saturday.
Karamjit Singh, 32, from Maan Colony in Karnal district, Haryana, was struck by boulders near Atalakoti while descending from the gurdwara. Kuldeep Singh, 74, a resident of Chuna Mandi in Delhi, died from health issues while on the pilgrimage. Another pilgrim, around 50 years old, also died due to medical complications.
Police and SDRF teams reached the spot. Karamjit was airlifted by helicopter to Govindghat, from where he was taken to the community health centre in Jyotirmath, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

At Kaushoti Bhavan in D Block, the process begins with meticulous DNA sampling and verification, a significant improvement over older, less organised documentation methods. This step ensures accurate identification of the deceased before further procedures are initiated. Once verified, the postmortem room takes over, preparing remains with precision and care. While the postmortem room operates, relatives are supported in a dedicated waiting room, where counsellors and public relations officers provide emotional and logistical assistance. After procedures are complete, families are escorted with arranged transportation to receive the mortal remains, ensuring a respectful handover. Civil Hospital's integrated approach, from Kaushoti Bhavan's documentation to the postmortem room's efficiency and compassionate dispatch, sets a standard for handling sensitive processes with professionalism and empathy. Nodal Officer, Civil Hospital, Arvind Vijayan explains the process, 'After receiving the DNA reports, the verification centre in D2 block of Civil Hospital has been activated, located in front of the Medical Superintendent's office. When relatives arrive to collect the remains, verification is conducted there. After verification, the report is sent to the post-mortem room, and the procedure is initiated. Until then, the relatives are seated in the waiting room with a counsellor and the medical team.' Meanwhile, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday said that former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those who died in the tragic Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad. His identity was confirmed through DNA matching. Rupani was one of the 241 passengers who lost their lives after the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12. 'Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani lost his life during the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Today, at around 11:10 AM, his DNA has been matched. He worked for the people of Gujarat for several years. The mortal remains of Rupani will be handed over to his family, and the authorities will decide on the final rites,' Sanghavi said. (ANI)

20 injured in wasp attack
A total of 20 people were injured after being bitten by wasps during a temple festival near Lalgudi in Trichy district on Saturday. During the Mariamman temple festival at Nerunjalakudi, villagers were carrying milk offerings to the temple when crackers were burst. The sudden noise startled a group of wasps resting in a nearby tree. Wasps descended rapidly and began biting people in the crowd. AHMEDABAD: No official death toll has been declared yet in the AI-171 crash, but a civil hospital doctor on Saturday confirmed receiving 270 bodies. The Air India flight carried 242 passengers—only one, Vishwas, survived. So far, identities of four doctors and nine civilians have been confirmed, while 272 DNA samples have been collected, indicating 18 remain untraced. As the government continues to withhold an official death toll in the Ahmedabad plane crash, discrepancies have begun to emerge. On Saturday, Dr. Dhaval Gameti of Civil Hospital revealed to the media that 270 bodies had been Recived — a figure that sharply contrasts with the official silence. This raises serious questions, considering the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carried 242 passengers and crew, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Adding to the toll, at least 13 local residents, including four medical students, died when the aircraft came down in a densely populated area of Ahmedabad.
