Stampede-like situation outside Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru; 10 injured, 1 critical
Karnataka police on Wednesday were using 'mild' force to manage the crowd gathered outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium to get a glimpse ofthe Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players after their IPL final win against Punjab Kings on Tuesday night, reported the news agency ANI on 4 June 2025.
As per media reports, 10 people were injured, and one is critical after a Stampede-like situation outside the Chinnaswamy stadium.
According to the agency report, RCB fans had gathered outside the stadium in large numbers to catch a glimpse of this season's IPL final winners when the situation went out of control. This led to police involvement, and the video also showed them hitting people with sticks and causing a stampede-like situation on Wednesday.
'We request all fans to follow guidelines set by police and other authorities, so that everyone can enjoy the roadshow peacefully,' said RCB in its post on X ahead of the fan engagement programme.
A PTI report also showed how a child fainted outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium as massive crowds gathered to celebrate the IPL win.
Karnataka's State Cricket Association also arranged a special felicitation ceremony for all RCB players on Wednesday. The city has been witnessing heavy rainfall on Wednesday, and the state police have struggled to manage the crowds since Tuesday night, when people celebrated the IPL final win.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the IPL 2025 finals against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, 3 June 2025. The team gave PBKS a target of 191 runs, and the rivals managed to make only 184 runs from the second innings with the loss of seven wickets. RCB won the neck-to-neck final match against PBKS by 6 runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

IPL night heist: Interstate gang stole 700m metro cable in Ahmedabad; 4 of 13 arrested
AHMEDABAD: The Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch successfully apprehended four men for their alleged involvement in a string of metro cable thefts across multiple states in India. This crucial operation resolved 35 cases of cable theft and shed light on the nefarious activities of this notorious group. The actions came in the wake of three thefts on the metro train routes between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in a fortnight. During the early hours of June 2, 2025, amidst an IPL match, the gang members cut and removed 700 metres of valuable cable near the Old Koba Metro Station by Koba Circle, amounting to a loss of Rs 17.85 lakh. The investigative teams analysed CCTV footage from the Netram Project in Gandhinagar, leading to the identification of two vehicles linked to the crime. Subsequent questioning of the vehicle owners and suspects, combined with information obtained from technical surveillance and sources, pointed towards a rented property in Kalol where the stolen cable was concealed. A raid on the Kalol property uncovered the gang members in the act of stripping the stolen cable. Authorities seized a significant amount of stolen property, including 368.790 kilograms of copper wire valued at Rs 2.95 lakh and 130.210 kilograms of plastic cover pieces. In total, the recovered metro cable property amounted to Rs 2.96 lakh, with additional items such as a car and mobile phones bringing the total value of recovered property to Rs 8.32 lakh. Further interrogation and technical analysis revealed the involvement of 13 individuals in the metro cable theft scheme. The gang members admitted to multiple thefts in different locations, including near the Shahpur Metro Station in Ahmedabad and the Gyaspur Metro Station in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad. The arrested gang members include Musharraf Mulejat, 32, Rashid Dhobi, 21, Rashid Ansari, 45, and Irshad Malik, 33, all residents of Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh. The absconding gang members are Shehzad Amruddin Malik, Aamir Akbar Malik, Arif Babu Malik, Ikhlakh Iqbal Malik, Imran Malik, Arif Rafiq, Sonu Babu Kasar, Arshad Asgar Malik, Bilal Qureshi, Raja Qureshi, and Masoom Yasin Malik. This relentless gang employed sophisticated tactics in each operation, including reconnaissance of metro routes, climbing metro pillars to cut cables, and transporting stolen goods for sale in different cities. Modus Operandi The gang operated by travelling to cities with active metro lines. They stayed in hotels near railway stations and rented large four-wheel-drive cars for self-driving, often through services like Just Dial. After securing a vehicle, they contacted local brokers to rent a house to hide stolen goods. Before a theft, they conducted reconnaissance of metro routes using their rented car. Their methods for reaching cables included using ropes and support from large trees near metro bridge pillars or climbing walls adjacent to metro pillars. They then cut metro cables with large cutters. Once stolen, the cables were taken to the rented house. There, they stripped the plastic and rubber coverings to extract the copper wires. These copper wires were then packaged and shipped by train from Ahmedabad Kalupur Railway Station to Delhi for sale. "Top Cop Was Part Of Solution": Kiran Bedi On Suspension Over Bengaluru Stampede
New Delhi: The suspension of Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda over the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede is not "rational and justified", former IPS officer Kiren Bedi said on Saturday, as she joined a string of voices from the police association to condemn the action. "Every case of law and order is unique. We need somebody who has to explain (what happened). He had to be heard. Did the commissioner ignore everybody? How can you just pick up the commissioner? It is unfair. He has not worked in isolation," Ms Bedi told NDTV. "Any suspension which is not rational, justified, explained is demoralising for the entire force. This suspension order is taken like a fly out of a milk. You need to find out if there is a swarm of flies...," she added. The former IPS officer said the people of Bengaluru do not even know who played what role in managing the crowd that had gathered outside the stadium. "He (Mr Dayananda) did not work in isolation. There was a whole headquarters, the secretariat and the political leadership involved," she said. Eleven people - all below the age of 40, including a 14-year-old, died and more than 50 suffered injuries in the stampede that broke out at the stadium gate on Wednesday, when a large number of people thronged to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s first-ever victory in the Indian Premier League. A day later, Mr Dayananda was suspended for alleged dereliction of duty, and Seemanth Kumar Singh was appointed to the top post. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal was also transferred and was replaced by Sudheer Kumar Reddy. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's political secretary K Govindaraj was sacked and head of the intelligence department, Hemant Nimbalkar, was transferred. Four people, including an RCB marketing head, have been arrested so far. The police commissioner is a part and parcel of the whole system that has either delivered or not delivered, Ms Bedi said. "If he is a part of the problem, then he is a part of the solution? How can you remove the solution? She also said that a police assessment is very vital to understand the sequence of events that lead to such tragedies. "Their assessment is very vital to be heard in meetings held by people like the chief secretary... You cannot just pick and choose. It is an administration vs an organisation affair," she said. Ms Bedi's remarks came as several of her retired colleagues in the association criticised Mr Dayananda's suspension and alleged the police were being made a "scapegoat" in the case. Echoing similar sentiments, former Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said: "Sacking a police officer like Dyanand is unacceptable. He and his team safeguarded the city all night and now, he has been bulldozed," he said. They brought the (RCB) team on a chartered flight. Mr Shivakumar thought he would identify himself with the youth. A police commissioner and his entire team being suspended is unheard of," he said. He said the suspended officials can approach the Central Administrative Tribunal to dispute the government action since the police association cannot take up individual cases. Sources in the police association alleged a clear violation of the law by the RCB and sought a thorough probe into the matter, "without any political pressure". "In the light of the facts available in the public domain, it seems the police have been made a scapegoat in this case to save face," a source said. "The sequence of events show that everyone at the top level of the government was aware of the program. To say that the police commissioner did not consult senior officials is not correct," the source added.
