Bruceville-Eddy man charged with indecency with child over period of time
Bruceville-Eddy, Tx (FOX 44) – A 51-year-old man is being charged with indecency with a child over time, and accused of introducing her as his girlfriend.
Bond has been set at a half-million dollars for Brandon Jason Shumake, who was booked into the McLennan County Jail Thursday.
An arrest affidavit indicates Bruceville-Eddy Police got the case through notification by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The affidavit stated that the alleged abuse began when the victim was eight up until she was 13, and that included what was described as inappropriate touching and kissing. The affidavit also indicated sexual communications via an app called 'Discord.' The affidavit stated that police obtained search warrants for telephones and the suspects home. The affidavit stated that when the phones were examined and the Discord app opened, they found the only conversation on it was with the victim. The affidavit further stated that the victim was interviewed at the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children with the affidavit stating that the interview included information that inappropriate touching had begun when she was eight years old. The affidavit stated that the interview included statements about a phone being used to record videos when when she was in the shower.
Man charged with murder of Bell County deputy sentenced to prison
As the investigation continued Bruceville-Eddy Police sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Shumake from Justice of the Peace Brian Richardson. The warrant application was made April 30 and the arrest made May 1.
Shumake remained in the McLennan County Jail Friday.

Canadian teen arrested in Vermont trying to drive dad to airport
DERBY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – U.S. Border Patrol arrested a father and son Thursday after they tried to use a historic library as a cover to cross into the country. Reason Phung, 18, admitted to dropping his father Van Hoa Phung, 49, off at the Haskell Free Library in Derby Line, Vermont. The library, which was built exactly on the Canada-U.S. border in 1904, has tightened restrictions on non-American visitors this year after pressure from the Trump administration. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol cited a rise in illicit activity as justification for the changes. Both Phungs are Canadian citizens. According to court records, border patrol agents saw Van Hoa Phung walking south wearing a red shirt and shorts and crossing the border near the library at around 2:35 p.m. on June 5. He was then picked up in a car by his son, who had legally crossed the border on his own earlier. Vermont DMV warns about traffic ticket scam Reason Phung then drove his father south into Vermont, where their car, a red Tesla, was stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol in a parking lot in Derby. The two men were then taken into custody. The younger Phung had previously claimed that he was crossing the border to visit his grandparents, but he had in fact intended to drive his father to an unspecified airport in the U.S., then return to Canada. Both the younger and the elder Phung pleaded guilty in court on Friday, and received sentences of time served for making false statements and illegally entering the U.S., respectively. Police investigate Lyndon barn fire as possible arson
LYNDON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Authorities suspect a fire that burned a Lyndon barn to the ground early Saturday may have been intentionally set. Lyndon firefighters arrived just before 6:30 a.m. to find a barn at Greenpoint Lane and Grimes Road so consumed by fire that they made no attempt to put it out, they told Vermont State Police. The state's Public Safety Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit was called to the scene. Troopers say the fire is considered 'suspicious at this time' and the investigation will continue. The barn was used as storage space at the time and did not house any livestock. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. James Wright at the state police's St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111, leave an anonymous tip online at or contact the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program hotline at 1-800-32-ARSON (1-800-322-7766).
