City's civic infra fails first rain test

Lucknow: Revealing serious lapses in civic infrastructure maintenance, the service lane of Ring Road near Indiranagar Sector 18 collapsed after the season's first rainfall, forming a 15-foot-wide crater.
The public works department has barricaded the area. As a temporary measure, the crater has been filled with debris and rubbish to prevent any untoward incident. Repair work has begun, but the blame game among govt agencies has already started.
PWD sources alleged that Lesa had recently laid underground cables without proper coordination, which might have weakened the surface. Meanwhile, confusion prevailed over jurisdiction.
Zone-7 zonal officer Akash Kumar said the area falls under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He added that sewer and drain maintenance is the responsibility of LMC.
Residents reported that while the sludge from drains was removed during pre-monsoon cleaning, it was left on the roadside and washed back into the drains with the rain, defeating the purpose. Waterlogging was also reported near the Daliganj Crossing underpass, where a small crater developed following the downpour.

He directed officials to ensure the timely resolution of all complaints and to follow up with citizens for feedback after the issue is addressed. Highlighting the vulnerability of low-lying areas, he said all municipal teams are on high alert to tackle waterlogging and other rain-related issues.

GURGAON: The residents of Gurgaon woke up to continuous light rain on Saturday, which began around 5 am and has been lashing the district non-stop since then. Though the rain is not heavy, it has persisted steadily, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life across the city. Rain skips city, 3-day bounty for interiors
Chennai: While north interior districts Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupathur, and Tiruvannamalai have seen rain for three straight days, showers have mostly skipped the city and the suburbs. Instead, high humidity has made conditions hot and uncomfortable. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the city on Saturday but said rain intensity may drop thereafter. On Thursday, the IMD predicted moderate rain for Friday but downgraded the forecast to light to moderate on the day itself.
